Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDC) associated with poor prognosis due to advanced presentation and limited therapeutic options. This is further complicated by absence of validated screening and predictive biomarkers for early diagnosis and precision treatments respectively. There is emerging data on biomarkers in pancreatic cancer in past two decades. So far, the CA 19-9 remains the only approved biomarker for diagnosis and response assessment but limited by low sensitivity and specificity. In this article, we aim to review current and future biomarkers that has potential serve as critical tools for early diagnostic, predictive and prognostic indications in pancreatic cancer.","PeriodicalId":309690,"journal":{"name":"South Asian Research Journal of Applied Medical Sciences","volume":"7 9","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-06-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141353585","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We studied the research output in Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine from Afghanistan from 1996 to 2022, using the Scopus data from the SCImago website. Afghanistan has published 17 papers, out of a total of 9872 papers from eight South Asian countries, with a share of only 0.17%, from 1996 to 2022. Afghanistan is only ranked higher than Bhutan and Maldives among South Asian countries, and its ranking among all the Asian countries is 21. There has not been a significant volume of orthopaedic research arising from Afghanistan. However, orthopaedic issues such as trauma-related injuries, congenital disorders, and musculoskeletal conditions are widely prevalent in Afghanistan. Biomedical research in Afghanistan faces various challenges, including limited funding, inadequate infrastructure, lack of trained personnel, political instability, and security concerns. However, opportunities for improvement exist through investment in infrastructure, training of healthcare workers, and expansion of healthcare coverage. Furthermore, enhanced research funding and collaboration are crucial to boost the research output. Addressing these challenges and seizing these opportunities is essential to ensuring access to quality healthcare for all Afghan citizens. Efforts to strengthen the healthcare system must be sustained and coordinated to achieve lasting improvements in health outcomes across the country.","PeriodicalId":309690,"journal":{"name":"South Asian Research Journal of Applied Medical Sciences","volume":"68 41","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141276787","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is often a sign of infection, being able to quickly turn in septicemia if no treatment is begun; it thus constitutes an emergency for diagnosis and therapeutics. The objective of this work is to study the epidemiological, clinical, biological, etiologic and evolutionary characteristics of the episodes of febrile neutropenia, to evaluate the importance of the infectious risk and the main involved germs, to identify the difficulties of the management and the follow-up of the children having developed a febrile neutropenia and finally. During our retrospective study concerning the episodes of febrile neutropenias diagnosed in the pediatric oncology unit of the pediatric department of the university hospital of Alger over a period of 04 years (from 1 January 2017 to 31 December 2020). 205 patients having solid tumor were collected. Among them 45 cases presented febrile episodes, the average age was 5.75 years with a maximum frequency of them were male, and the main motive for consultation was the fever. The average deadline of occurrence of neutropenia was of 14.6 days. A documentation of the fever is obtained clinically at 20 % of the cases, while in 80 % of the cases, the fever remains unknown origin. The infectious sites found are: a) Skin (6.6%), digestive (4.4%), respiratory (8.8%). b) The average duration of the neutropenia was of 18.8 days. Upon completing this work, we emphasize the need of prompt and appropriate management of the hematological emergency that is febrile neutropenia by an adapted empirical antibiotic therapy after a good bacteriological investigation, without forgetting the importance of prophylaxis based mainly on hygienic mucocutaneous measures and the information/education of parents about the risk of infection and means of prevention.","PeriodicalId":309690,"journal":{"name":"South Asian Research Journal of Applied Medical Sciences","volume":"66 2","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-05-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140983408","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

They are called papillomaviruses because some of them cause papillomas, which are more commonly known as warts. Some types of HPV only grow in skin, while others grow in mucous membranes such as the mouth, throat, or vagina. All types of HPV are spread by contact (touch). More than 40 types of HPV can be passed on through sexual contact. Most sexually active people are infected with one or more of these HPV types at some point in their lives. At least a dozen of these HPV types are known to cause cancer. While HPV infections are very common, cancer caused by HPV is not. Most people infected with HPV will not develop cancer-related to the infection. However, some people with long-lasting infections of high-risk HPV types are at risk of developing cancer. HPV infections of the mucous membranes can cause genital warts, but they usually have no symptoms. There are no effective medicines or other treatments for HPV, other than removing or destroying cells that are known to be infected. But in most people, the body’s immune system controls the HPV infection or gets rid of it over time. To learn more, see HPV and HPV Testing.","PeriodicalId":309690,"journal":{"name":"South Asian Research Journal of Applied Medical Sciences","volume":"178 9","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-02-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140456819","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In India, primary care physicians and specialists used the fixed-dose combination of metformin and glimepiride in various doses. The results of clinical trials needed to be applied to regular clinical practice in the real world in order to close the knowledge gap. Regarding this, professional opinions will provide insightful information about the use of antihyperglycemics and their combinations, including their safety, effectiveness, and usefulness for a particular subgroup of patients with diabetes. So, a cross-sectional study was conducted on the prescription pattern of oral anti-diabetic drugs for patients with diabetes mellitus. The choice of oral anti-diabetic agents for diabetic patients with comorbidities was analysed by using 26 questions. About 845 physicians participated in the survey by sharing their opinions/views on the questionnaire. Also, 400 physicians out of 845 prefers glimepiride and metformin as the preferred combination to achieve the targeted glycated haemoglobin level. Moreover, 723 physicians out of 845 experienced glycated haemoglobin reduction with glimepiride and metformin for more than 3 years. Maximum glycated haemoglobin reduction with glimepiride and metformin was 1.5%-2% by 383 physicians as per the survey. They also experienced good glycaemic control and good cardiovascular safety with glimepiride and metformin. Thus, the experts recommended glimepiride and metformin very often in elderly individuals. Glycated haemoglobin reduction was more than 3 years with glimepiride and metformin, as per the clinical experience of the experts participated in the survey. Faced with this unknown, health policymakers put in place regulations to protect populations in each of the countries affected. As a result, the habits of people living with a chronic disease such as sickle-cell anaemia had to be changed. However, it is important to understand how the COVID-19 pandemic contributed to the change in the way Gabonese people living with sickle-cell anaemia used hospital facilities for their regular medical check-ups. We therefore carried out a field survey involving a questionnaire sent to the heads of households in the four administrative districts of the commune of Franceville. The main information obtained from these questionnaires is as follows. Most sickle-cell subjects (64.40%) had no difficulty in accessing healthcare services during the Pandemic. Only 11.10% had difficulties, and the remaining 24.50% refrained from going to hospital. When it comes to accepting the vaccination against the SARS-CoV-2 virus, the response was hundred percent negative. In general, most of this segment of the population had changed their habits on hospital medical consultations, which have been transformed into telephone consultations, videoconferencing, or self-medication.","PeriodicalId":309690,"journal":{"name":"South Asian Research Journal of Applied Medical Sciences","volume":"18 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139281187","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This pandemic has observed significant impact on quality of life globally and the put unforgettable imprints on history of mankind. Reason for more havoc in this pandemic was less studied virus by medical scientists regarding its pathophysiology, available treatment options and lack of effective vaccine to tackle this dragon. COVID-19 is the first observed and reported pandemic of corona virus related global disease apart from its previous SARS and MERS. Fast track developments in medical treatment options due to this ultrafast digital and artificial intelligence techniques have curtailed mortality on large scale globally. Although mortality is significantly reduced, morbidity is documented on a large scale worldwide in this pandemic. Morbidity due to COVID-19 now called as ‘Long COVID’, which is underreported & half-heartedly evaluated globally. Long COVID is related to persistent immune dysregulation occurs during evolution of COVID-19 as natural trend of disease. Immune dysregulation has documented during course of active viremia, during recovery of viral illness and after post viral phase. Immune dysregulation occurs in ‘selected group’ of cases irrespective of disease severity and vaccination status and observed in cases with negligible illness to advanced one mandates further research. Thus, Immune dysregulation in COVID-19 is predominant cause for long covid and leading to brainstorming effect on medical scientists and researchers as of today. Globally, one third of recovered or affected cases of COVID-19 are facing long covid and needs prompt treatment options to tackle this dragon related long term effect on body. ‘Immunomodulatory’ or immunity modifying agents are the primary targets to curtail immune dysregulation and long covid. Some experts recommend ‘disease modifying agents’ to treat long covid cases. Still, many miles to go to reach to effective treatment options for long covid and we don’t have effective options for this ‘health issue of global concern’. L-Arginine is amino acid with multiple beneficial effects such as immunomodulatory effects which will regulates immunological response in inhibit dysregulated immune system additional to its universally known antioxidant, vasodilatory and regenerative and cellular proliferation effects on immune cells. These Immunomodulatory and or diseases modifying effects of L-Arginine makes it the future candidate with ‘game changer’ role for management of Long covid resulting from immune dysregulation as a core pathophysiologic pathway of this Dragon Pandemic.","PeriodicalId":309690,"journal":{"name":"South Asian Research Journal of Applied Medical Sciences","volume":"62 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-08-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"120966399","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
