This article aims to show the gender stereotypes of a husband and a wife in a modern Javanese nuclear family in film Mudik (2020) by Adriyanto Dewo. Gender stereotypes are established values that have been socialized through the concepts of Dadi Wong (Being a successful person) and Durung Tutug, Jowo, or Rampung (Being an unsuccessful person) in Javanese society. Those who successfully meet these values will be included in Dadi Wong category, but if they are not able to, they will be classified in Durung Tutug, Jowo, or Rampung category. This study uses narratology as an analytical method which is elaborated with the theory of gender performativity and power relations. The results of this study indicate that the representation of the husband in this film is considered unable to fulfill Dadi Wong conception due to the absence of children and financial instability. Meanwhile, the representation of the wife is unable to reach the qualifications of Dadi Wong due to her infertility condition and role in the public sphere.

Quality teacher education greatly influenced learning outcomes. The study aimed at exploring how language was employed to call for strategic partnership in the production of quality teachers in a speech by Doctor Dickson Tsey. \u0000Methods: The study employed qualitative method specifically the critical discourse analysis to analyze Doctor Dickson Tsey’s speech. \u0000Results: The study found out that frequent use of simple present tense articulated the real issues of quality teacher education during the speech delivery. It was obvious that the speaker identified himself as a stakeholder of quality teacher education due to his frequent use of we/us; pronouns in the speech. Doctor Dickson Tsey’s chose and used possessive adjectives such as my, our, your, his and her as modifiers in his speech to describe the ownership of AMECO. Figures of speech such as hyperbole, idiom, repetition and personification were used by Doctor Dickson Tsey to create mental images and sensory impressions for emotional effect and intensity. It was also found out that the speech called for stakeholders’ support for quality teachers’ education. \u0000Conclusion: The roles of strategic partners in providing quality teacher education cannot be underestimated. Stakeholders such as government, the church, traditional leaders, principals of colleges of education, alumni, staff and students were addressed by the speech suggesting that partnership is very crucial for quality teacher education in the 21st Century. \u0000Recommendations: The study recommend that Doctor Tsey’s speech should be considered by policy planners of education to enable them factor quality teacher education programmes into the country’s educational policies. Colleges of educations should incorporate quality teacher education activities into their carriculum to enhace their training. Stakeholders of teacher education should initiate programs to create awareness in the public on the need to support quality teacher education. There should also be unity among the stakehoders and the colleges since a strategic partnership cannot be built in the absence of strong collaboration and togetherness. This study shall serve as a basis for further research in areas that influence learning outcomes such as community-teacher relationship.

A person employs oral poetry texts to express emotions, sentiments, experiences, opinions and affections. The aim of this study was to explore the themes, the figures of speech and the point of views of Anlo poets in selected Anlo war song texts. \u0000Methodology: Qualitative approach and thematic analysis were employed. Natives of Anlo constituted the population under study. Primary data was collected through interviews and observations in Ketu South Municipality of the Volta Region of Ghana. Ten respondents, whose age was between seventy and eighty were selected through snowballing. \u0000Findings: The study found out that Anlo war song texts consist of themes such as love, command, vow, unity, praise, patriotism and inspirations. In order to hide their intensions and thoughts from their enemies, they intentionally sing in figures of speech since it is difficult to be understood by non-native speakers. Aside the themes and point of view, devices such as idioms, proverbs, repetitions, assonance, alliteration, parallelism and synecdoche were discovered by the study as literary devices used in singing these war song texts. It was also revealed that the poets use the first person and the third person’s point of view to deliver their messages. Literary devices are employed in Anlo war songs as a mean of establishing and reinforcing the relationships between the warriors and their ancestors who were warriors. \u0000Conclusion: The persistent and regular use of literary devices in Anlo war songs suggest that literary device is the language of the warriors of the Anlos when singing war songs. \u0000Recommendations: The study suggested that Anlo war song texts should be published in local and foreign languages to preserve the culture of the people. Also, the study of these songs in Senior High Schools as part of oral literature is recommended as it would be of great value to appreciate and preserve the genre.

It also highlighted the importance of adverbial and prepositional phrases in determining the Character's perception, attributes, and worldly aspects. Methodology: The present research is a mixed-method approach in nature where close reading and document analysis of Mohsin Hamid's short stories 'Of windows and doors' and 'A beheading' is done along with the coding of the PP phrases and adverbial words. The results are drawn by separately analyzing the obligatory and optional adjuncts in the clause by examining the sentence structure in the presence or absence of the PP. Findings: Adverbial placement rules are applied to the clauses of the stories which proved that changes in few adverbial words can render the sentence ungrammatical. The findings showed that 63% PP Adjuncts and 36% PP Complements in 'Of windows and doors' states that optional information is added more frequently to describe the world affairs and character's perception. While 47% PP adjuncts and 52% PP-complements in 'A beheading' demonstrate that writer has focused more on the obligatory information. Conclusion: Adverbial words of different categories are used for proving the stance that few adverbs have a fixed position in universal grammar. Recommendation: Future researches can be conducted to identify the rules which govern adverb placement and categorize the functions and differences of prepositional phrases as an adjunct and complementizer in two different languages.

In countries where English is a second language, the access to English in school has been limited to the upper strata of society while lower strata can only bear the fee of government schools which obstruct the acquisition of second language. Bilingualism is highly associated with the ability to use two language and this research is conducted to investigate the basic differences between teaching strategies, school environment and learners’ attitude towards English as second language in different school types. All these factors are considered to address the contrasting ideologies of private schools and government schools which foster or restrict the process of bilingualism. \u0000Methodology: This study was designed quantitatively to gather data from 36 participants (12 from each school type i.e., government school, private school and semi government school). Questionnaire contained three sections and were distributed to participants between 20-30 years of age. Two particular teaching methods i.e. Grammar translation method and Communicative language teaching approaches are focused to investigate the impediment in advancement of bilingualism. \u0000Findings: Socio-economic condition of family affects the choice of school where people with strong financial background prefer to admit their children in highly famous English language school. Bilingualism is prioritized in private school where appropriate environment is provided to the learners while other school types do not implement effective strategies which can help students in learning highly prestigious language. \u0000Conclusion: English grammar translation method and communicative learning teaching approaches are used differently in public and private schools which formulate different communicative competency of students. \u0000Recommendations: Future studies can be conducted to scrutinize the role of other teaching methods such as direct method, audio-lingual method, total physical response, and structural approach in different types of classrooms to assess the learning of English as second language.

Written and oral discourse is influenced by worldly events which cause changes in language. The purpose of this study was to examine the role of context in perpetuating particular functions of language. The focus was laid on the perlocutionary force of coronavirus related terms to determine how context effect the language and word choices of the narrator. \u0000Methodology: This research adopted phenomenological approach and applied mixed method research design. Six blogs form Dawn news web were taken as sample where coronavirus survivors, healthcare workers and Pakistani students in China University had narrated their experiences regarding COVID-19 pandemic. Language phenomenon was analyzed by qualitative research design through close detailed document analysis of the blogs. Austin’s Speech acts theory was applied for differentiating the mostly used acts in the language of the narrators. Data was coded initially for arranging the sentences into explosives, behabitive and exercitive acts. COVID related terms were detected for analysis of the nature of the words and to find out similarities across different blogs. Quantitative analysis was carried out for quantifying the amount of the speech act usage and coronavirus related terms. \u0000Findings: The findings showed that coronavirus survivors have performed behabitive acts more than other participants because they expressed their mental state. Healthcare workers performed explosive speech acts for 81 times and survivors performed it for 35 time because they focused more on the factual information, strategies and ongoing processes. \u0000Conclusion: Perlocutionary force of COVID-19 related terms showed that these terms were used for creating awareness in the audience regarding the precautionary measures during pandemic. \u0000Recommendation: Future researches can be conducted to investigate the speech acts of two different blogs to highlight the ideological stances of narrators.

The novel focuses on the Kazantzakis family that is forced to flee their homeland Cyprus to England. A unique aspect of the novel is that half of it is narrated by a fig tree. Therefore, this novel will be analysed both from Multicultural and Ecocritical perspectives. To analyse the data, this research uses a qualitative descriptive method, particularly textual analysis. In the end, the result of this paper shows a connection between the issues of diaspora and displacement with natural environment. This analysis is important because in the 21st century conflicts are still happening, which force people to leave their homeland and significantly affect the natural environment.

The purpose of this study is to figure out the hidden meaning about the American Dreams represented by Willy Loman. The method used in this paper is descriptive qualitative. This paper uses deconstructive approach from Jacques Derrida. The result of this research shows the belief of the American Dreams cannot be applied in the modern era to all of Americans. Most Americans hold a strong belief that everyone will get a happiness and a successful life in America. This deconstructive analysis finds a hidden meaning that the belief of the American Dreams could not guarantee the success of people who live in America. Death of a Salesman represents the character of Willy Loman as an American who fail to accomplish his success to be a salesman, a husband, and a father.
