The significance of teacher quality cannot be overstated when it comes to students' academic success within any educational system. Teachers serve as the cornerstone of schools, playing a pivotal role in elevating educational standards. They not only impart knowledge but also foster a love for learning, creating an environment where students can freely express themselves, take risks, and cultivate their own ideas. Consequently, teachers wield immense influence, capable of either positively shaping students' lives or causing detriment. Thus, understanding the qualities that make a teacher effective, particularly from the perspective of secondary school students, is crucial. The study utilised a mixed-methods approach incorporating questionnaires and a focus group discussion. Data was gathered from 127 form 3 and 4 students. Analyses involved both quantitative methods, such as percentages, and qualitative approaches, presenting findings in narrative form. Recognising students as key stakeholders in the teaching and learning process, the article advocates for soliciting their views on the characteristics of good and effective teachers. By doing so, educational institutions can better align instructional practices with students' needs and preferences, ultimately enhancing the quality of education and promoting positive learning outcomes.","PeriodicalId":309097,"journal":{"name":"Editon Consortium Journal of Educational Management and Leadership","volume":" September","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"140092282","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The objective of this study was to find out the relationship between classroom control practices by prefects and student disruptive behaviour in the classroom mixed secondary schools in Kisauni Sub-county, Mombasa County, Kenya. The data was collected and analysed using a descriptive design, and the study's target population included 24 mixed secondary schools, 96 class teachers, and 840 form four students in Kisauni Sub-county. The study sampled 8 schools and 24 class teachers using both the purposive and simple random sampling techniques. A simple random sampling procedure was employed in order to select the actual students/respondents to participate in the study. Descriptive statistics computed included means, frequencies, standard deviation and percentages. In order to test hypotheses, f- and t-statistics shall be computed to test significant statistical differences at a 95 per cent significance level. Data were presented in diagrams, charts and tables. There is a moderate positive correlation between prefects' classroom control practices and students' disruptive behaviour (r =.269, p .000<.05). Prefects' classroom control practices are an important predictor of the students' disruptive behaviour (? = .269, p =.000<0.05, t = 4.286). The study is significant in that it will help teachers understand different student disruptive behaviours in secondary school, which will give directions on how to curb such behaviours.","PeriodicalId":309097,"journal":{"name":"Editon Consortium Journal of Educational Management and Leadership","volume":"12 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139224668","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The study adopted the descriptive survey design. The target population was comprised of all KCSE 2021 candidates and all principals of secondary schools in the County. The study used an outlier approach and the multistage sampling technique. The sample size consisted of 2214 students and 80 principals of schools. Data was collected using questionnaires. Instruments were adapted for use after carrying out a test re-test procedure. Cronbach Alpha Coefficient of above 0.7 was obtained. Validity was ensured with the assistance of the supervisors. Data analysis was done using SPSS version 27 and was analysed using descriptive statistics (frequencies and percentages) and inferential statistics (Spearman rank correlations and Regression analysis). Quantitative results were presented in tables and qualitative results in prose. Private schools showed a stronger link between student motivation culture and academic achievement than public schools. In high-achieving KCSE public and private secondary schools, the Spearman rank correlation analysis indicated a moderate positive correlation for public schools and a strong positive correlation for private schools between student motivation culture and academic achievement. However, when assessing the relationship between student motivation culture and student academic achievement in low-performing KCSE public and private secondary schools, the results differ. The study recommends that the school management should consider investing in student motivation cultures that enhance student academic achievement.","PeriodicalId":309097,"journal":{"name":"Editon Consortium Journal of Educational Management and Leadership","volume":"60 4","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139267242","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Enrolment of girls in rural primary schools in the County has remained persistently low over the years despite the government’s efforts to promote it. The study employed a descriptive correlation survey design guided by the Social Conflict Theory by Oberschall. The target population of the research was 136 female teachers and 135 headteachers from rural public primary schools in Samburu County. The sample size for the study was 136 female teachers and 27 headteachers. The census method for female teachers who responded to the questionnaires was used, while the purposive sampling technique was applied for head teachers whose data was obtained using interview schedules. Result analysis by Pearson Correlation Coefficient revealed a statistically significant negative correlation of -0.429 with a p-value (Sig.) of 0.025. The significance level of 5 per cent indicates that higher ecological factors are associated with a decrease in girls' enrolment in rural public primary schools in Samburu County. The study recommended the enhancement of safety measures along with resolving water scarcity issues as well as expanding access to education in rural areas in Samburu County as a means for enhancing girls' enrolment in rural primary schools.","PeriodicalId":309097,"journal":{"name":"Editon Consortium Journal of Educational Management and Leadership","volume":"20 4","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139279123","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study employed a descriptive quantitative survey design. The target population of this study was 26 registered private universities (including private university constituents where mobility rate records are too high) in Nairobi County, Kenya. The research sample size was 180 private university students and nine registrars. Quantitative data was analysed using Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) version 22.0. Descriptive analysis, inferential statistics, and regression analysis were used to analyse the findings. Descriptive statistics such as percentages, mean scores and standard deviation were computed appropriately. Binary logistic regression analysis was employed to establish the magnitude of the effect on the dependent variables of independent variables. The study concluded that student engagement significantly influences students' mobility in private universities in Nairobi County in Kenya. Institutions of higher learning with up-to-standard student engagement frameworks and platforms attract more clients than those with less student engagement. The study recommended that since economic status does not influence student mobility in private universities, it is prudent not to lower the costs of programmes too much to the extent that it becomes hard to sustain resources that are necessary for the implementation of student engagement frameworks, customer care services, measures of timely completion and quality learning services.","PeriodicalId":309097,"journal":{"name":"Editon Consortium Journal of Educational Management and Leadership","volume":"90 33 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129862343","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The study was based on the Students' Integration Theory by Tinto (1993) and the Cultural Model of Educational Management by Bush (2011). The descriptive survey research design was adopted. The study found that religious cultures were related to student retention (r=0.482; p=0.000). The study recommends that chartered Christian universities in Kenya take advantage of their religious cultures and develop policies to strengthen the existing cultures as they develop new ones. The study recommends further that the Ministry of Education develop policies that could facilitate student retention and review the existing guidelines on students' retention in institutions of higher learning in Kenya and beyond. In addition, studies are recommended in other Christian universities that did not start as theological colleges and other private universities in public universities to establish the relationship between religious cultures and student retention.","PeriodicalId":309097,"journal":{"name":"Editon Consortium Journal of Educational Management and Leadership","volume":"32 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-04-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114474008","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
