The significance of teacher quality cannot be overstated when it comes to students' academic success within any educational system. Teachers serve as the cornerstone of schools, playing a pivotal role in elevating educational standards. They not only impart knowledge but also foster a love for learning, creating an environment where students can freely express themselves, take risks, and cultivate their own ideas. Consequently, teachers wield immense influence, capable of either positively shaping students' lives or causing detriment. Thus, understanding the qualities that make a teacher effective, particularly from the perspective of secondary school students, is crucial. The study utilised a mixed-methods approach incorporating questionnaires and a focus group discussion. Data was gathered from 127 form 3 and 4 students. Analyses involved both quantitative methods, such as percentages, and qualitative approaches, presenting findings in narrative form. Recognising students as key stakeholders in the teaching and learning process, the article advocates for soliciting their views on the characteristics of good and effective teachers.
