Pranayama is one of the most beneficial yogic practices and most talked about in yoga shastra. However, prana, the basis of life on which pranayama is based on, is not much studied. In the present study, an attempt was made to understand the effect of different feelings, sensations, experience and perception of pranic energy by respondents on their psychological well-being. Exploratory research design was used. The Participants for this study were adolescents and adults totalling to 811 with a mean age of 24.19 years. An open ended questionnaire was used and the results were analysed using Contingency Coefficient analysis and Chi Square tests. Results revealed that 99.5% of them felt the pranic energy in between their hands.61.1% of the respondents have expressed that the sensation of prana was a nice feeling in between their hands, only 26.7% have said that it was a relaxed feeling, and 28.6% said that they could understand more about their aura after feeling the prana in between their hands.98.4% were able to experience psychological changes after absorbing the air prana, and more than 60% of the respondents felt relaxed and experienced a happy feeling when they absorbed the air prana. In most of the effects females had higher levels of experience than male respondents. Implications of the study have been delineated.","PeriodicalId":308947,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Research: THE BEDE ATHENÆUM","volume":"120 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133145529","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Increased aeroallergen exposures as a result of global warming in combination with pollutants exposure can act synergistically to enhance allergic diseases. Climate change also influences the concentration of airborne pollutants which alone and in conjugation with aeroallergens could exacerbate symptoms of allergic diseases. Smoking pollutes the air and is a widely acknowledged danger to human health. Experimental evidence suggests that complex organic molecules from cigarette smoke may act as allergic adjuvants through the production of oxidative stress in airway cells. Exposure to environmental tobacco smoke (also known as passive smoking or second-hand smoke) is an important factor in indoor exposures leading to allergic and asthmatic effects. In our study, we illustrate how ETS, outdoor air pollutants and climate change may act as environmental risk factors for development of asthma. We chose ETS as indoor pollutant in our lab using murine model because atleast some degrees of exposure to ETS is very common worldwide. Mice were exposed to the side stream smoke generated by burning cigarettes in specially designed smoking chamber and lab animal ultrastructural/histopathological studies have demonstrated that mice exposed to cigarette smoke could induce inflammation in the airways. However, more studies are needed to understand the association between environmental factors and development of asthma.","PeriodicalId":308947,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Research: THE BEDE ATHENÆUM","volume":"9 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115668894","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper identified the relationship between work related stress, and mental health of working professionals. Stress plays an important role in mental health of the individual at the professional's front. Several studies revealed the relationship between stress and mental health among the working professionals. There are several factors at the work place like, Monotonous Work, Shift Work or Irregular Working Hours, and Unclear Roles which cause stress in individual's further stress lead to the mental health problem among the working people. But the good working environment can increase the productivity and performance of the person at the work place. Therefore, it is important to develop some strategies and intervention programs towards good working environment for working professionals.","PeriodicalId":308947,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Research: THE BEDE ATHENÆUM","volume":"243 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123395717","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Standardized measure of resilience was administered upon 260 school adolescents from Aligarh district in Uttar Pradesh. The voluntary participants belonged to age group 14–18 years (Mean Age=16.62 years). 181 respondents were from nuclear families while 79 were joint families. Major proportion (70%) of respondents had mothers who were homemakers. Multivariate ANOVA was performed to examine the effects of family type and mothers’ working statuses. Results revealed significant main effects and interaction effects of the two variables on resilience and most of its dimensions. Results revealed that adolescents whose mothers were homemakers had relatively similar resilience scores (mostly high) irrespective of their family types. Adolescents from joint families with working mothers scored higher on resilience measure. In contrast, those with working mothers but from joint families had very low resilience scores. This study therefore throws light on the kind of impact family system can have on the adversity management strategies opted by the youth. Probably, working mothers from nuclear families enjoy more autonomy and have higher self esteem both of which can have positive influence on personality development and stress coping strategies of their children. In contrast this may not be the case for adolescents from joint family system and with working mothers as the latter may have to adhere to and adjust with principles related to child rearing.","PeriodicalId":308947,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Research: THE BEDE ATHENÆUM","volume":"8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126395831","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

One thousand men and women, aged between 16-71 years were sampled across India. Since India is a diverse country where cultural and ecological variations affect behaviour the sample was drawn from five states across the country. These were Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Uttarakhand and Tamil Nadu. The aim of the study was to test Bandura's contention that 'self-efficacy is the belief in one's capabilities to organize and execute the courses of action required to manage prospective situations' and whether this would also apply in India. It was hypothesized that high efficacy would be associated with health beliefs, stress, and work. Also how levels of efficacy would impact health in men and women. This might indicate whether self-efficacy is a gendered phenomenon predicting health and work in different spheres of life. The analyses reveal that age predicted self-efficacy for men, but that did not lead to notable variation in their tendency to be in paid work as compared to women. The results also suggest that women are undergoing a transition in their health beliefs and involvement in paid work regardless of the region in which they reside. To some extent they are proving to be better than men in this respect, irrespective of the level of reported stress. This indicates that women in India are striving to find a new, positive balance between work and health.","PeriodicalId":308947,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Research: THE BEDE ATHENÆUM","volume":"5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121489663","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
