However, its usage in high-demand video distribution systems, such as CNDs, has been badly approached, ignoring several aspects of optimization of network use. To address such deficiencies, this paper presents an approach for implementing the adaptation service by exploring the concept of overlay services networks. As a result of demonstrate the benefits of this proposal, it is made a comparison of this proposed adaptation service with other strategies of video adaptation.","PeriodicalId":308819,"journal":{"name":"2010 IEEE Latin-American Conference on Communications","volume":"56 51 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-11-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129220095","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Several of these applications require DBMS solutions that support their operations. Note, however, that these solutions must respect the limitations of the mobile platform, such as smaller memory capacity and lower processing power. This paper discusses our experience in specifying and implementing a DBMS solution, which provides typical functions such as storage, transactions, caching and information indexing. We stress our project decisions and the rationale for such decisions. The validation of this approach is carried out via its application in a commercial project, implemented by our development team.","PeriodicalId":308819,"journal":{"name":"2010 IEEE Latin-American Conference on Communications","volume":"32 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-11-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125009000","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The actual problem includes multiple objectives with conflicts among them. Classical approximations optimize a single objective or QoS parameter, however they do not not take into account the conflicting nature of these parameters leading to suboptimal solutions. We take a new approach trying to improve the routing solutions and propose the use of a multi-objective evolutionary algorithms (MOEA), specifically the NSGA II algorithm. A mathematical model is introduced for this problem, which includes QoS parameters such as bandwidth, packet loss rates, delay and power consumption.","PeriodicalId":308819,"journal":{"name":"2010 IEEE Latin-American Conference on Communications","volume":"18 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-11-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114794603","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Both antennas are an evolution from a circular patch structure softening the edges to obtain improvements in the antenna parameters, agreeing with the theory proposed by John Kraus. After evolution there were improvements in reflection coefficient and number of resonant frequencies throughout the operating bandwidth. The operational frequency range is from 500 MHz to 15 GHz while the best operational frequency (by design) is about 4.5 GHz. The antenna feeding impedance is proposed to be 50 ohms. There were constructed antennas with the best simulation response to test the practical performance of experiment.","PeriodicalId":308819,"journal":{"name":"2010 IEEE Latin-American Conference on Communications","volume":"200 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-11-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123022896","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The Quality of Service (QoS) in such networks can be guaranteed if and only if the Bit Error Rate (BER) and the crosstalk induced power penalty is significantly reduced. The blocking probability is found to be the function of node count and wavelength count as well while considering the scalability of optical crossconnect (OXC). Considering that the aim is to minimize the makespan of applications, schedulers exploit the best possible way to use shared resources. Applications have requirements which call for customized environments for their execution. One way to provide such environments is to use virtualization on demand. This paper presents two schedulers based on integer linear programming which schedule virtual machines (VMs) in grid resources and tasks on these VMs. The schedulers differ from previous work by the joint scheduling of tasks and VMs and by considering the impact of the network on the quality of the schedule. Experiments show the efficacy and efficiency of the schedulers in scenarios with different network configurations.","PeriodicalId":308819,"journal":{"name":"2010 IEEE Latin-American Conference on Communications","volume":"46 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-11-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114464532","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Therefore, there is growing interest for classification algorithms based on statistical analysis of the length of the first packets of flows. Most classifiers proposed in literature are based on machine learning techniques and consider each flow independently of previous source activity (per-flow analysis). In this paper, we propose to use specific per-source information to improve classification accuracy: the sequence of starting times of flows generated by single sources may be analyzed along time to estimate peculiar statistical parameters, in our case the exponent α of the power law ƒ−α that approximates the PSD of their counting process. In our method, this measurement is used to train a classifier in addition to the lengths of the first packets of the flows. In our experiments, considering this additional per-source information yielded the same accuracy as using only per-flow data, but observing fewer packets in each flow and thus allowing a quicker response. For the proposed classifier, we report performance evaluation results obtained on sets of Internet traffic traces collected in three sites.","PeriodicalId":308819,"journal":{"name":"2010 IEEE Latin-American Conference on Communications","volume":"2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-11-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115203382","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Nowadays, most WSN proposals require using software agents to bring new capabilities to the network, such as autonomy, control and intelligence. However, a deployment of agents over a WSN imposes higher resources consumption and it is required to evaluate different kinds of strategies, trying that agents do not impact resources cost of a real WSN. On the other hand, current simulators for WSN try to represent behaviors of a WSN for a specific application, besides, most of these simulators try to emulate the entire hardware platform of nodes, which are going to be deployed over a real net, this involves higher processing requirements for being emulated all hardware and resources control. Hence, the goal of this paper is to propose a simulation model based on Multi-Agent paradigm, for deploying software agents over a WSN and evaluating the most suitable strategy, so agents could perform required tasks for the network without impact WSN resources. The proposed model provides required components for hardware management in a WSN, also it presents the components required to make an intelligent network.","PeriodicalId":308819,"journal":{"name":"2010 IEEE Latin-American Conference on Communications","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-11-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129453355","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

An interchange of information between the application and physical layers is realized. In the application layer, a Sum of Absolute Differences (SAD) measurement is used to estimate the variance between consecutive frames in the video sequence, which defines a threshold for Unequal Error Protection (UEP). In the physical layer, an Orthogonal Space-Time Block Code (OSTBC) MIMO system with redundant antennas is used to exploit diversity gain using Antenna Selection (AS) at the transmitter side. The simulation results presented in this paper show that the transmission of video based in the motion activity detection per frame using the diversity scheme with AS is capable of improving the objective and subjective video quality at the end user.","PeriodicalId":308819,"journal":{"name":"2010 IEEE Latin-American Conference on Communications","volume":"33 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-11-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114354572","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
