With a grant from the German Research Association (DFG), Augsburg University is setting up an IT Service Center headed by the ClO that enables coordination and cooperation and moreover brings together a range of different competencies. The development was determined by the aspects of flexibility, easy configuration, and different applications. The contribution deals with the advantage of a linguistic based automatic indexing system which will improve information retrieval. The available linguistic functionality of lingo is presented and explained via examples. Stemming, recognition and separation of composite words, lexical and algorithmic recognition of phrases and correction of OCR defaults are indicated too. Nevertheless a local component is further existent, which is influenced by the collections of the \"own\" university and the specialties of the local library landscape. Independent of their place users mostly are starting with their own libraries homepage. The HeBIS portal, which was introduced in November 2004 and integrates a lot of important catalogues and services at first was only used by a group of insiders. This situation changed when the \"central service was offered as a local option too. The development of usage numbers of the HeBIS Portal exemplifies how important it is to offer network based services via the participating libraries. As most library specific products are part of the \"deep web\", search engines like Google will only registrate parts of them. The traditionally used optical and haptic techniques and the methods with exited energy as well as the relevant employment of the data and image processing are discussed. As a new method the use of heat radiation is suggested producing an illustration of the heat transmission in the diagnostic survey due to the different densities in a paper sheet. To reach diverse audiences and learning types a broad range of activities of libraries to promote information literacy is desirable - from complete curricula to single learning objects. The playful and explorative approach of the bilingual online tutorial DISCUS (Developing Information Skills & Competence for University Students) of the University Library of the Hamburg University of Technology (TUHH) has its counterpart in the learning target of playing\" with databases - to explore them - as well as with search terms being selected to get the best out of database searches. Visualization as a didactic-artistic tool creates within the tutorial an enjoyable learning environment and supports cognition and orientation, it generates positive emotions and increases learning activities. DISCUS presents the content in various ways, offers changes of perspectives, and is fun.
