Only one additional stub, besides the quarter wavelength drain bias stub, is used to control simultaneously fundamental, second and third harmonic frequency impedance termination. In this way, loss in the load coupling network is minimised resulting in higher efficiency than by using other approaches. Design and performance of a highly efficient class-E power amplifier operating at 1 GHz based on the proposed transmission-line output network topology are presented. State-of-the-art power added efficiency of 80% at 1 GHz for an output power of 7 W is measured.","PeriodicalId":308339,"journal":{"name":"2008 38th European Microwave Conference","volume":"24 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115847381","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

One of the most critical components is the front-end power amplifier in this system. The paper analyzes different technologies with potential in the E-band frequency range and present a power amplifier design satisfying the E-band system specifications. The designed power amplifier achieves a maximum output power of ges 20 dBm with a state-of-the-art power-added efficiency of 15%. The power is realized using InP DHBT technology. To the best of our knowledge it is the highest output power and efficiency reported for an InP HBT power amplifier in this frequency range. The predicted power-added efficiency is higher than that of power amplifiers based on SiGe HBT and GaAs pHEMT technologies. The design shows the capabilities of InP DHBT for power amplifier applications as an alternative to HEMT based technologies in the millimeter-wave frequency range.","PeriodicalId":308339,"journal":{"name":"2008 38th European Microwave Conference","volume":"21 5","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131456327","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The filter uses an advanced coupling scheme to achieve a desired asymmetric frequency response with an attenuation pole of finite frequency on the high side of the passband. A full-wave simulator has been employed for designing the filter. The proposed filter circuit design has been implemented. This capacitor supplies additional capacitance to the tightly-coupled electrodes, leading to relax the fabrication difficulties. By introducing the capacitor to the gap, response of the UWB passband is drastically improved. In the experiment, with a 0.5 pF capacitor, a clear UWB passband from 3.1 GHz to 11.4 GHz (FBW 114%) was obtained with small ripples of less than 0.5 dB and minimum insertion loss of 0.4 dB, which results show good agreement with the theory. Using this method, planar UWB filters can be made much more compact.","PeriodicalId":308339,"journal":{"name":"2008 38th European Microwave Conference","volume":"121 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130070978","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

An accurate prediction of the read zone may be accomplished by a time-consuming electromagnetic modelling accounting for the antennas and the interaction with the environment. This paper proposed, instead, a fast prediction model, based on a small set of data and parametric antenna representation, which is demonstrated to achieve the same accuracy of a fullwave 3D model in application to realistic environments. The feasibility of such interconnect was previously demonstrated by designing and characterising integrated antennas. The targeted frequency range was about 30 GHz. In the present paper, we have analysed in term of propagation mode and by measurement the possibility of increasing the operating frequency up to 110 GHz. A meander loop compact structure is used, where its four arms are brought inside the loop. Structure's perturbation is designed by filling the gap between the two arms at the top right corner. The loop is loaded by four varactor diodes connected between each arm and a small square patch located at the centre. Varactors are shorted through a via at the centre of the small square patch to control the centre frequency of the filter. This structure is compact, simple in fabrication, and has a wide tuning range. A tunable bandpass filter is designed and implemented to tune over the range from 1.47 GHz to 2.40 GHz (relative tuneable bandwidth ~48%).
