A genetic algorithm (GA) with multi-objective optimization is adopted to balance gain against sidelobe level. The lens shapes and the position of each feed are associated with chromosomes. The broad bandwidth of axial ratio is due to a parasitic dipole crossing over the original dipole that is driven by a semi-rigid coaxial feed with the characteristic impedance of 75 Omega. The crossed dipole, a unit element of the dipole array proposed in this paper, can produce a broad circularly polarized (CP) operation by itself because of the sequentially rotated configuration. The measured 3 dB AR bandwidth is 39.2% and the gain is 13 dBi at the CP center frequency of 2.32 GHz. Details of the proposed dipole array design are described and both the simulation and the experimental results are presented and discussed.","PeriodicalId":308339,"journal":{"name":"2008 38th European Microwave Conference","volume":"163 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125927724","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper deals with the question, what relevant effects exist concerning energy transmission through the human body and how they can be considered during the system design process. Parasitic effects in the transponder antenna are analysed. Finally, a combination of all effects is taken into account to analyse the frequency behaviour of the whole system. Practical examinations confirm the feasibility with a HF transmission system.","PeriodicalId":308339,"journal":{"name":"2008 38th European Microwave Conference","volume":"8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125307156","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Single-mode propagation is available for a metallic waveguide using two arrayed dielectric rods. Although coaxial-waveguide converters are generally used for the introduction of electromagnetic wave to metallic waveguides, impedances cannot be matched by only one converter, because of the narrow bandwidth. Accordingly a frequency multiplexer or demultiplexer that connects to two coaxial-waveguide converter is necessary for impedance matching in each frequency range. S-parameters for three waveguide ports were calculated using Ansoft's HFSS. Although the frequency width for the reflection coefficient of each port is not so wide, port isolation is above 20 dB from 14 GHz to 17.5 GHz between two output ports.","PeriodicalId":308339,"journal":{"name":"2008 38th European Microwave Conference","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125352748","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Specifically, Yagi-Uda like surface-wave launchers (SWLs) are utilized as the antenna feed, exciting cylindrical SWs on a grounded dielectric slab. With the addition of circular, curved or straight metallic strip gratings, suitable conditions for LW field excitation are achieved. Essentially, the SWL and grating configurations can generate cylindrical LW field distributions within a confined region on the guiding surface. Such aperture fields can produce pencil and conical-sector beam patterns in the far field.","PeriodicalId":308339,"journal":{"name":"2008 38th European Microwave Conference","volume":"46 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116227608","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, common measurement systems provide only one average value of the dielectric constant along the length of the TDR probe. This contribution presents two methods for the measurement of dielectric profiles independent of the structure of the material under test. The basis of these advanced delay time measurement technique is a waveguide, which is inserted into the material under test for obtaining measurements of the effective permittivity, and an obstacle, which can mechanically be moved along the probe. The obstacle serves as a discontinuity. Thus, by moving the obstacle the permittivity of the surrounding can be determined with a spatial resolution given by the step size of the obstacle displacement.","PeriodicalId":308339,"journal":{"name":"2008 38th European Microwave Conference","volume":"73 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122391298","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The PA is implemented using GaN pHEMT. The peak drain efficiency (iquest) is 62.7% and power added efficiency (PAE) is 60.3%. A resonator without an inductor was implemented to eliminate any loss that results from the low quality factors. The resonator uses narrow microstrip DC-feed lines located close to the drain leads which is used as resonator inductance. A model of the output capacitance (i.e.; Cds) was extracted from the die model and is used as a part of the resonator. Finally, a comparison between an ideal parallel LC with the proposed resonator was simulated to achieve the required impedance termination.","PeriodicalId":308339,"journal":{"name":"2008 38th European Microwave Conference","volume":"22 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122077426","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
