Good nutrition is the core pillar for human development and its necessity varies with respect to age, gender and during physiological changes such as pregnancy which is a critical phase in a woman's life when the expectant mother needs optimal nutrients to support the developing fetus. Awareness about appropriate nutrition during pregnancy is a serious concern and lack of it may lead to child morbidity and mortality. Therefore it is imperative to address this issue properly in various government policies and schemes. ICDS scheme initiated by Government of India is a major step in this regard which provides nutrition and health education, supplementary nutrition, family planning tips etc. to the pregnant women. The Anganwadi workers are the basic functionaries of the ICDS scheme and their services (providing counseling, supplementary nutrition, distribution of Iron & Folic acid tablets) are transmitted to the beneficiaries through a channel of Anganwadi centers (AWCs). Keeping the above background in mind relevant literature such as journals, newspapers, articles, research papers from Scopus, Pub Med, research gate, and Google scholar related to national and state policies pertinent to maternal nutrition were reviewed to find out the existing gaps in the knowledge level of health care providers. It is concluded from the study that maternal nutritional needs have to be prioritized in government health programmes and strategies to improve the status of expectant mothers need to be implemented to address nutritional challenges. Government schemes can be strengthened by promoting integration of services, ensuring effective procurement mechanisms for supplementary nutrition and food supplements, establishing regional training facilities and strengthening program monitoring and evaluation.","PeriodicalId":308084,"journal":{"name":"Asian Journal of Hospital Pharmacy","volume":"39 5","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135514383","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Neuropsychiatric side effects ranging from headache to psychosis have been reported. Early identification and management is crucial to improve outcomes. We report the case of a 26-year-old female with a history of tuberculosis who developed symptoms of organic psychosis after taking antitubercular drugs for 45 days. She presented with altered sensorium, seizures, sensory and memory loss. Diagnosis of drug-induced psychosis was made based on the temporal association and exclusion of other causes. Symptoms resolved after discontinuation of the culprit medications. Clinicians should be aware of neuropsychiatric adverse effects of antitubercular drugs which though rare can be serious. Timely diagnosis and withdrawal of the offending medications are needed to improve outcomes in such cases. \u0000 ","PeriodicalId":308084,"journal":{"name":"Asian Journal of Hospital Pharmacy","volume":"45 8 Pt 1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-05-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125698800","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The present case report describes a 62-year-old female patient with Henoch-Schonlein purpura (HSP). HSP is a type of vasculitis that affects small vessels and is characterized by purpura, arthritis, abdominal pain, and kidney involvement. In this case, the patient presented with a rash with red lesions on the upper and lower limbs, crusted lesions on both lower limbs, and acute onset abdominal pain with hematochezia. Endoscopy revealed diffuse ulcerations in the stomach, duodenum, and right colon(fig.1). Biopsies revealed a leukocytoclastic vasculitis in the skin (fig2) and gastrointestinal tract. The patient had a history of hypertension and smoking, and laboratory investigations revealed leucocytosis, anaemia, and electrolyte imbalances. The diagnosis of HSP was made based on the clinical presentation, laboratory findings, and biopsy results. The patient was treated with a combination of steroids, antibiotics, and supportive care, which led to significant improvement of symptoms and laboratory findings. Steroid therapy was given according to guidelines for the treatment of HSP, and tapering the steroid therapy helped to improve gastrointestinal symptoms. The case report highlights the importance of careful monitoring and appropriate treatment of HSP in geriatric patients, as well as the potential benefits of immunosuppressant therapy.","PeriodicalId":308084,"journal":{"name":"Asian Journal of Hospital Pharmacy","volume":"110 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-04-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123544355","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) and cor pulmonale are common complications of ILDs, resulting from increased resistance in pulmonary circulation and right heart strain. ILDs and PAH and cor pulmonale are often difficult to diagnoses as the symptoms can be non-specific and overlap with other respiratory diseases. Diagnostic tool such as pulmonary function tests, imaging studies and right heart catheterization are used to establish a definitive diagnosis and assess to disease severity. This case study summarizes the patient case of ILDs with PAH and cor pulmonale, including the underlying pathophysiology, diagnostic tool and management strategies. Additionally, we discuss the challenges in diagnosing and managing ILDs with PAH and cor pulmonale, as well as potential future direction in research and treatment.","PeriodicalId":308084,"journal":{"name":"Asian Journal of Hospital Pharmacy","volume":"81 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-03-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129233324","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The number of human monkey pox cases has been on the rise since the 1970s ,with the most dramatic increases occurring in the DRC . The median age at presentation has increased from 4 1970s) to 21 years ( 2010-2019).There was an overall case fatality rate of 8.7% with a significant difference between clades -central African 10.6% ( 95% CI: 8.4%-13.3% ) VS WestAfrican 3.6% ( 95% CI:1.7%-6.8% ) .your review shows an escalation of monkey pox cases, especially in the highly endemic DRC , a spread to other countries, and a growing median age from young children to young adults . These findings may be related to the cessation of small pox vaccination , which provided some cross -protection against monkeypox , leading to increased human -to -human transmission. increased surveillance and detection of monkeypox cases are essential tools for understanding the continousily changing epidemiology of this resurging disease. This inherited condition causes a build-up of phenylalanine in the bloodstream. Elevated phenylalanine levels in the blood can cause muscle rigidity, choreoathetosis, tremors, hyperreflexia, dermatitis, pale skin, and pseudo-scleroderma. The central nervous system deficiencies in PKU are caused by phenylalanine and phenyl pyruvic acid competing for dopamine, adrenaline, norepinephrine, and serotonin in the brain. Structural changes are caused by neurotransmitter inhibition and phenylalanine and phenyl pyruvic accumulations in the white matter of the posterior periventricular, frontal, and subcortical areas of the brain1. Greater myelin turnover decreased synaptogenesis, and reduced neuronal digenesis ensues from myelin deficit, resulting in cognitive development and mental retardation1.
