Certain skills can be developed during the process of learning science. One of the skills that expected to be possessed is Science Process Skills (SPS). SPS can be gain by applying Predict-Discuss-Explain-Observe-Discuss-Explain (PDEODE). Therefore, the intent of this study was analyzing students’ science process skills after the implementation of PDEODE. Measurements of SPS were obtained by collecting data from three domains of learning. SPS of students ranges from good to excellent level. About 18,29% students got excellent marks of SPS while most of them (81,71%) successfully reached good level. To put in a nutshell, PDEODE learning assisted students to attain all indicators of SPS.","PeriodicalId":30735,"journal":{"name":"USEJ Unnes Science Education Journal","volume":"353 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-04-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"76466572","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This research adopted a quasi-experimental design involving a 3X2 pre-test post-test non-randomized and non-equivalent control group design. The study is premised on the dual coding theory of cognition, and involved 183 respondents whom were purposively selected from three intact classes. Data for the study was gathered through an organic chemistry achievement test whose reliability was determined through a test retest method and a reliability index of 0.74 was obtained. Data was analyzed using t-test and Analysis of Covariance. Findings show that there was a significant difference between the achievement of students taught organic chemistry using concept map graphic organizers and those taught with the mind map graphic organizer (F(1,118)= 7.04, p<.05). Using t-test statistics, findings also indicated that there was no significant difference in the achievement of male and female students when exposed to either concept map (t(75)= .47, p = .63) or mind map graphic organizer (t(42)= .64, p = .52). Hence, it was concluded that mind map is a more effective tool for learning organic chemistry when compared to the concept map. Irrespective of students’ gender, either of concept map or a mind map can help improve students’ achievement in organic chemistry.","PeriodicalId":30735,"journal":{"name":"USEJ Unnes Science Education Journal","volume":"487 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-04-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"77050554","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Teachers need to know students’ creative thinking skill profile and fulfill each indicator level to generate focused ideal learning to improve creative thinking skills. This research was conducted to explore junior high school students’ creative thinking skill profile in science learning about alternative energy. This research is a quantitative descriptive essay test method. Respondents are 110 7th-grade junior high school students in Jember, East Java, Indonesia. The results showed that the creative thinking skills of junior high school students is low (44,98%). Students’ creative thinking skill still need to be developed. Some students find it challenging to design a unique creative work on alternative energy. We suggest that creative thinking skills need to improve by developing learning methods, models, strategies, approaches, media, context, and interaction in the discussion process.","PeriodicalId":30735,"journal":{"name":"USEJ Unnes Science Education Journal","volume":"24 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"89319260","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Enhancing PEB needs to consider some aspects, such as the value and location. Pre-service physics teachers have a role in shaping students’ PEB because environmental issues are part of the high school physics curriculum. This study aimed to investigate the link between the location, and values (biospheric, altruistic, egoistic, and hedonic), from two different locations in Indonesia. The modified and translated 2-MEV, and E-PVQ scales were used. This study concluded that the values in both locations are in the very high category, in which the values are correlated to PEB. The strongest correlated value is an egoistic value that is related to the self-enhancement indicating the need for self-enhance approaches in the class to promote PEB. The different locations which are in the same country didn’t show a significant difference in both values and PEB. Thus, future study could conduct their research in a larger area with a different culture to explore the relationship between PEB with location or other demographic aspects, and the development of activities to enhance PEB need to consider the strong relationship between PEB with egoistic value. \u0000  \u0000 ","PeriodicalId":30735,"journal":{"name":"USEJ Unnes Science Education Journal","volume":"156 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"86419281","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
