The specific research questions asked were: What are the characteristics of roller derby league members? What are the motivations of women who join roller derby leagues? What are reasons for continuing to participate? Do roller derby participants identify specific characteristics of the sport that distinguish it from other sports? Are there specific benefits from roller derby women seek and receive? An on-line survey was used and qualitative data were analyzed (n=1597). Based upon the data, a typical respondent is Caucasian, 20 to 40 years of age, heterosexual, in a married/domestic partnership, and has a post-secondary degree. Reasons for joining included looking for a new way to get exercise, add something new and different to my life, and roller derby might fit my personality. For continuing, the following reasons were ranked as important; roller derby adds richness to my life, I like the idea of overcoming obstacles as a team, and I like the social interaction. Because of participation, they benefited several ways including a positive opinion of self, health improvement, increased relationships, and an added outlook.","PeriodicalId":30729,"journal":{"name":"EJurnal Physical Education Sport Health and Recreation","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"41958927","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This research is experimental research that means to compare two different treatments on research subject. Thirty two samples use probability sampling. Independent variable is part whole part and whole part whole practice method. Attributive variable is high leg muscle power and low leg muscle power. Dependent variable is volleyball smash skill. Data collection technique in this research use pretest and posttest. Treatment undergoes through 18 meeting. Data analysis technique that used is Varian analysis (AVANA). The result of this result shows that in student group that given whole part whole practice method has better result than student group that given part whole part treatment (104,37 > 81,75) toward volleyball smash result. In student group that having high leg muscle power has better result compared with student group that having low leg muscle power (112,31> 70,87) toward volleyball smash result. There is interaction between practice method and leg muscle power toward volleyball smash result.","PeriodicalId":30729,"journal":{"name":"EJurnal Physical Education Sport Health and Recreation","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"46869197","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This research uses correlational method. A total of 40 men’s hockey players were selected as samples in this study. The data analysis technique used multiple regression and coefficient determination test (R2). It can be concluded that the grip strength variable, arm muscle power, togok flexibility, and eye and hand coordination have an effect on shooting accuracy with drag flick technique and produce significant contribution. Relationship with Flick Drag shot accuracy was power muscle arm with a result of 34.6%, then body flexibility of 20.5%, holding strength of 17.9%, and the least contribution of hand-eye coordination of 14.3%.","PeriodicalId":30729,"journal":{"name":"EJurnal Physical Education Sport Health and Recreation","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"74299122","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Female coaches therefore face unique challenges, which can be vastly different to their male counterparts. This integrative review focused on the challenges that women face in the coaching domain and the impact that these can have on their well-being. Only four articles focused solely on female coaches since 2000. Despite the lack of literature several key themes have been identified. The main stressors relate to work-life balance, prolonged periods away from family, and a need to prove they are better than male coaches. Coping strategies focused on proactive anticipation and planning, and communication with others. There is also a lack of support for female coaches and inadequate salary to assist continued engagement. Developing female coaches through mentoring and gender specific coach education programs may counteract these issues.","PeriodicalId":30729,"journal":{"name":"EJurnal Physical Education Sport Health and Recreation","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"41966015","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The study examined interplay of physical characteristics, play position and shooting accuracy among female basketballers. Based on coaches’ rating, first 15 players were sampled but only 14 completed the measurements. The research design was descriptive correlation. Players’ bio-data were collected; height and weight were measured and BMI calculated. Research protocol included warm up and trials of 10 shots from three familiar distances. Participants were video recorded taking 30 shots in three blocks of 10 shots for each of the shooting distances. Descriptive statistics; percentage, ranking and mean were useds while PPMC and ANOVA were conducted to establish statistical significance at p ≤ 0.05. The players had high shooting accuracy which had no significant correlation with height, weight and BMI. Playing positions had no significant influence on shooting accuracy F2.74m (2, 11) = 1.085, p = .372; F4.67m (2, 11) = 0.535, p = .600; F6.40m (2, 11) = 0.884, p = .441. Shooting accuracy was not determined by only physical characteristics and playing position. Therefore, we recommend shooting performance at three distance zones during training, talent hunting and team selection.","PeriodicalId":30729,"journal":{"name":"EJurnal Physical Education Sport Health and Recreation","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"80976404","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
