This study evaluates pedagogical university students’ readiness to apply for professional psychological counselling and describes the reasons to seek psychological help among this population. The sample included 1,343 students of Herzen State Pedagogical University of Russia (Saint Petersburg).\u0000Students have relatively little experience of getting professional psychological assistance: 32.5% have received it once, while 13.7% have received it within the last year. The majority of students (75.4%), however, would consider visiting a psychologist in the future. The study demonstrated pronounced gender differences in student attitudes to psychological help-seeking. Though both male and female students had similar rates of previous use of psychological services, male students show a less positive attitude towards using them in the future.\u0000When seeking psychological assistance, respondents had the following requests: normalisation of the mental/emotional state — 54.8%; normalisation of interpersonal relations — 16.6%; assistance in self-development — 11.6%; assistance in self-exploration — 10.6%; information — 10.0%; transformation — 8.0%.\u0000Despite the general positive attitude towards seeking psychological help, not all students are a priori positive about the idea of seeking help particularly from the university service. Future research should be focused on the source of such a discrepancy.\u0000Research such as ours facilitates planning university psychological assistance programs’ capacity and design, as informed by the potential clients’ needs and preferences.

The study involved 30 children with various developmental disorders aged 2 to 3 and their mothers. They took part in a five-month programme of social rehabilitation with early care specialists who conducted distant remedial and developmental classes. The programme modules were aimed at promoting the optimal development of children’s motor, emotional and communicative competence, development of self-service skills and social adaptation. The programme took into account individual psychophysical characteristics of children. It included weekly online video sessions with specialists, individual homework, watching game-based videos of teachers and playing games as part of homework for mother and child. The effectiveness of this format was evaluated by analyzing the dynamics in the development of children at the end of distance learning and the degree of satisfaction of mothers with the early care programme. At the end of the programme, there was pronounced positive dynamics in most indicators (fine motor skills, cognitive, communicative, social and motor spheres) in children, regardless of the characteristics and severity of disorders in psychophysical development. The most pronounced positive dynamics was revealed in fine motor skills and speech development. The least positive dynamics in children’s development was found in self-service skills and social adaptation. The pronounced positive dynamics in the social sphere of children’s development is associated with fewer days spent by the family in self-isolation. The highest degree of satisfaction with the process and results of distance learning with children was found in mothers of children with delayed psychomotor and speech development. Overall, 63% of mothers would like to repeat the remote programme of early care for their children.

The article explores the current state of ethnic identity of students in the Chechen Republic. The research is relevant for social psychology since it reflects the need to preserve ethno-cultural traditions and form a positive ethnic identity of young people. The article presents the results of a study of ethnic identity of 360 students aged 18 to 28 from the Chechen State Pedagogical University. The research methodology includes a set of tools developed by N. M. Lebedeva and A. N. Tatarko “Valence and definiteness of ethnic identity” as well as the methodology of G. U. Soldatova and S. V. Ryzhova “Types of ethnic identity”. It is shown that students are characterized by a pronounced positive ethnic identity. Behind this positive result is the need to identify with their ethnic group and the need for consolidation. Another reason is the dominance of ethnic interests and goals combined with optimism about the future of interethnic relations based on trust and mutual understanding between peoples. The paper presents a comparative analysis of gender and age differences in positivity, certainty, and types of ethnic identity — ethnic indifference, positive ethnic identity, ethnic nihilism, ethnic isolationism, ethnic egoism, and ethnic fanaticism — among Chechen students. Thus, positive ethnic identity is higher among female respondents who also show a more pronounced optimism about the future of inter-ethnic relations. Male respondents tend to have higher rates of ethnocentric tendencies such as ethnic egoism, ethnic isolationism, and ethnic fanaticism. With age, the positivity of ethnic identity among Chechen students decreases, which leads, on the one hand, to an increase in indifference to their ethnicity, and, on the other, to an increase in ethnocentrism with the dominance of ethnic interests and goals.
