A Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) and an Electron Probe Micro Analyzer (EPMA) were used to analyze the insulation tube of the devices and the surface of the device operated by impulse current was compared with that of virgin device. In addition, the discharge characteristics of the device applied by power-frequency voltage and lightning impulse voltage were examined respectively. The surface of the tube type device changed remarkably by operating many times. On the other hand, the characteristics as lightning protection device before and after operations has not been changed so much.","PeriodicalId":306575,"journal":{"name":"2003 Annual Report Conference on Electrical Insulation and Dielectric Phenomena","volume":"376 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2003-10-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122987304","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

After poling the sample in order to establish the space charge, the high voltage (HV) source must be disconnected, and the TSM signal yields the space charge distribution within the sample provided its surface potential remains nearly constant during the measurement. Since it actually varies, the technique used to derive the space charge distribution from the TSM signal may yield inaccurate results. This problem should be solved by using the new improved technique described in this article.","PeriodicalId":306575,"journal":{"name":"2003 Annual Report Conference on Electrical Insulation and Dielectric Phenomena","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2003-10-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121921860","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This is based on a multiple regression model that uses the FTIR peak height variations of the filler material of the polymeric arrester over the 15 year aging period. The method for the estimation of life is to find out the type of distribution that the peak heights of the filler material follows and determine valid parameters for that distribution. Using this a probability function is obtained to estimate the time for failure. In the present case, a Weibull distribution was obtained from the probability plot and a half-life of 19.5 years was estimated. This is in line with the expected life of polymeric materials used for high voltage outdoor insulation verifying the validity of the model.","PeriodicalId":306575,"journal":{"name":"2003 Annual Report Conference on Electrical Insulation and Dielectric Phenomena","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2003-10-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117289967","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The investigations are achieved with a sphere-plane electrode system of aluminum. The considered oil samples are fresh and aged ones. The thin layers are deposits of polytetrafluoroethylene, silicon oxide and silicon nitride, obtained by magnetron sputtering. It shown that the nature of coating materials as well as the geometry and polarity of the electrodes greatly influence the threshold electroconvection voltage (i.e., the voltage required to set the liquid in motion). The effect is more marked when both electrodes are coated; the influence of polarity is more significant with fresh oils than with aged ones. At high voltages, the liquid motion is slower and the laminar character of streaming persists within a wide interval of voltages than in the case of uncoated electrodes.","PeriodicalId":306575,"journal":{"name":"2003 Annual Report Conference on Electrical Insulation and Dielectric Phenomena","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2003-10-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129256257","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Their condition can therefore, be evaluated using dielectric response measurements. This paper describes the return voltage measurement (RVM) diagnostic method based on scanning the polarisation spectra of the oil-paper insulation in the time range of 0.1s to 1200s and excitation voltage 500V (DC). The effects of moisture, temperature and aging were studied. The accelerated aging process of oil-paper samples were investigated under air environment up to a temperature of 115/spl deg/C. Typical transformer proportions of copper, aluminium, zinc and iron were added to oil-paper insulation during the aging process. The oil-paper insulation samples were aged at different aging times at 250, 500, 1000 and 2000 hours. The investigations of temperature influence on the return voltage characteristics were studied to determine the state of the insulation under operating condition at different operating temperature from 24 to 65/spl deg/C. The RVM spectra were evaluated in terms of peak magnitude variation and time shift of peak occurrence in relation to the temperature and moisture condition as well as aging.","PeriodicalId":306575,"journal":{"name":"2003 Annual Report Conference on Electrical Insulation and Dielectric Phenomena","volume":"91 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2003-10-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114335819","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Thermal-treatment changed the surface to the hydrophobic one with the increase of contact angle and surface potential decay respectively. In XPS spectrum to analyze surface chemical structures, the increased hydrophobicity in thermal treatment was originated from the continuous decrease of side-chains caused by oxygen groups and the increase of unsaturated double bond in carbon chains. In the chemical change of discharge treatment, a lot of side-chains comprising carboxyl radical occurred on the treated surface and the hydrophilicity increased as time elapsed.","PeriodicalId":306575,"journal":{"name":"2003 Annual Report Conference on Electrical Insulation and Dielectric Phenomena","volume":"105 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2003-10-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127875867","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We consider that bamboo-ice composite system can be used electrical insulating system at cryogenic region. In this paper we will discuss relation between electrical insulating properties of bamboo-ice composite system and the structure of bamboo. Ac breakdown strength of bamboo-ice composite system increases with increasing water content. The vessel in bamboo is a Weak point for electrical breakdown. We consider that ac breakdown strength increases when the vessel is filled with ice. Position and shape of breakdown path is strongly influenced by existence of water. In this paper we will also discuss effect of ion in water on breakdown characteristics of bamboo-ice composite system at low temperature. Bamboo immersed with distilled water shows higher ac breakdown strength than that immersed with tap water does. Ions in water may play some role in ac breakdown process.","PeriodicalId":306575,"journal":{"name":"2003 Annual Report Conference on Electrical Insulation and Dielectric Phenomena","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2003-10-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122053877","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
