AIM: To access the changes in knowledge of obesity following educational interventions among school going adolescents. MATERIALS AND METHOD: A quasi-experimental study was conducted among 157 school going adolescent students of two private schools. (78 from control school and 79 from intervention school). A pre-designed questionnaire was prepared which included ORK-10 (Obesity Risk Knowledge Questionnaire). An integrated educational package for obesity was prepared and used for educational intervention. After one year, data were collected to assess the changes in knowledge related to obesity. RESULTS: A significant increase was observed in the total score in the students of intervention school from baseline to one year follow up. A significant improvement in knowledge regarding factors related to obesity among the students of intervention group was also reported. CONCLUSION: The study concluded that educational intervention at regular intervals resulted in good outcomes of knowledge, attitude and awareness towards obesity.","PeriodicalId":306248,"journal":{"name":"International Healthcare Research Journal","volume":"92 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-05-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122886654","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We live in a community and are inter-related. So is health. Global community health is an amalgamation of health care services, economies and social conditions of the communities all over the globe in a unison. Health is not only restricted within the four walls of a clinic or a hospital, but involves every individual of a population outside those walls and is community-oriented. It deals with solving health related issues and achieving better health goals, by inter-connecting healthcare systems globally with the main focus at achieving health for all, and not for one!","PeriodicalId":306248,"journal":{"name":"International Healthcare Research Journal","volume":"243 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-04-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115700619","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

AIM: This study aims to investigate the location of ferrule on fracture resistance of endodontically treated extracted mandibular premolars. MATERIALS AND METHOD: Sixty extracted mandibular premolars were divided into 6 groups where each group consisted of 10 teeth. The groups were as follows: control group, GHT; endodontically treated teeth without endodontic posts and crowns, GCF; teeth with a 2 mm circumferential ferrule, GBF; teeth with a 2 mm buccal ferrule; GLF, teeth with a 2 mm lingual ferrule; GBLF, teeth with a 2 mm buccal and lingual ferrule; and teeth without ferrule, GWF. All the teeth were endodontically treated and glass fibre posts were cemented and crowns were luted. All the teeth were loaded in a universal testing machine until fractured. Fracture lines were also assessed according to their location onto the teeth. The results were recorded and were statistically analyzed. RESULTS: Mean ±SD loads for the groups ranged from 770.3 ±212.9 N to 1008.1 ±176.5 N. One way ANOVA revealed a statistically significant difference between the groups (P_.05). However, no statistically significant differences were observed among groups (P>.05), except between GHT (control group) and group GWF (without ferrule). CONCLUSION: The study reported that although the presence of ferrule leads to improved fracture resistance, specific location of the ferrule had no significant differences in the fracture strength of endodontically treated teeth restored with glass fiber posts.","PeriodicalId":306248,"journal":{"name":"International Healthcare Research Journal","volume":"86 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-03-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126166289","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We describe a case of Behcet's disease associated with Kaposi's sarcoma occurring simultaneously in a 50-year-old male patient. Colchicine and steroids were administered for his mucocutaneous findings and polyarthritis. In few months on therapy, four symmetric, brown- red coloured, asymptomatic macules developed on the inner surface of his left foot. In histopathologic specimens; CD34 positive, atypical spindle cells with swollen nuclei formed bundles and vascular spaces filled with erythrocytes. The patient was diagnosed as KS clinically and histopathologically. HHV-8 DNA was positive with PCR. Regression was observed in the lesions after the cessation of corticosteroid treatment.","PeriodicalId":306248,"journal":{"name":"International Healthcare Research Journal","volume":"23 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-03-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123775933","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

COVID-19 has its primary pathophysiologies in the lung, and can worsen the morbidity and mortality of chest trauma if it occurs concomitantly. AIM:  To Examine the profile and outcome of chest trauma across the peri-COVID-19 period. MATERIALS AND METHOD: A retrospective analysis of cases of chest trauma in the peri-COVID-19 period (mid-Nov 2019 to mid-March 2022) at GMC Doda. RESULTS: Eighty-five cases of chest trauma met inclusion criteria within the 28 months period, M:F = 7.5:1, age range 3-80years, mean age (38.60±17.40years) and median age of 37years. There were 54 (63.5%0) cases of blunt chest trauma and 31 (36.5%) cases of penetrating chest trauma.  Thirty-one (36.5%) patients sustained haemothorax, 9 (10.6%) pneumothorax, 14 (16.5%) haemopneumothorax, 21 (24.7%) rib fractures, and 10 (11.8%) chest wall lacerations. Fifty-one (60%) patients had isolated chest trauma while the remaining 34 (40%) had associated injuries in one or more other organ systems. Closed thoracostomy tube drainage was definitive treatment in 48 (56.5%) patients while emergency thoracotomy was done in 5 (6%) patients. The treatment administered in the remaining 32 (37%) patients included intercostal nerve block for chest pain from rib fractures, wound exploration and wound repair. In the series, 75 (88%) had complete recovery, six (7%) patients left against medical advice, and four (5%) in-hospital mortality was recorded. CONCLUSION: The profile of chest trauma in the peri-COVID-19 period in our centre differed from the pre-COVID-19 years with a higher mortality figure. Management protocol also necessitated certain modifications.","PeriodicalId":306248,"journal":{"name":"International Healthcare Research Journal","volume":"5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-02-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117124349","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

AIM: To access the implementation of this practical concept by dental practitioners in their routine practice, a questionnaire based survey was conducted on dental practitioners and lab technicians. MATERIALS AND METHOD: A questionnaire containing 15 questions was distributed among dentists and lab technicians via Google forms and the responses were analyzed to evaluate knowledge, awareness and towards the concept of precision attachments. Data analysed was based on qualification (i.e. BDS, MDS in Prosthodontics, MDS Others, OTHERS i.e., DCI recognized diploma and fellowship courses post-BDS) and years of experience (0-10, 11-20 &>20 years) for the dentist-based survey and based on years of experience (0-10, 11-20 &>20 years) for the lab technician-based survey. Data was subjected to Chi- square test using Statistical Package of Social Sciences (SPSS) Software. RESULTS: Out of 336 participants, 45% were BDS, 30% were MDS in Prosthodontics, 23% were MDS in other fields and 2% were from others category. It was reported that ‘MDS in Prosthodontics’ with 11-20 years of experience seem to have the maximum confidence to handle cases of precision attachments. ‘BDS’ with 0-10 years of experience group have the least confidence to handle cases of precision attachment and the results was found to be statistically significant (p=0.02) indicating that while dentists are aware of this treatment modality but it’s implementation is limited to the prosthodontists. Responses of lab technicians also highlighted lack of knowledge and skill of dental practitioners to handle cases of precision attachment optimally(p=0.02.) CONCLUSION: Among dental practitioners, very less number have general knowledge and skills of this treatment modality. Therefore, its usage in current clinical scenario is still a challenging one.","PeriodicalId":306248,"journal":{"name":"International Healthcare Research Journal","volume":"210 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-02-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128767309","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
