Since the electrochemical biosensors use an enzyme reaction for measuring different types of substrates, the pH and temperature influence strongly on the output signal of biosensors. The paper treats soft computing modeling the input/output non-linear dependence of a dopamine biosensor, which uses an active membrane from banana tissue. The model represents the biosensorpsilas output current versus the substrate concentration and pH. The temperature is not taken into account, it is set to be constant during the experiments. The problem to solve here is to find a way of increasing the accuracy (and the fastness) of the modeling process, under condition of insufficient experimental data. The following soft computing techniques are compared in MATLAB environment: (1) neural network with back-propagation learning algorithm, (2) CMAC neural network, (3) fuzzy logic, and (4) ANFIS. Producing such systems requires rigorous design methodology and the right tools. It is with this in mind that the design and formal verification HiLes tool was developed. This methodological design and verification process was used in this work to design a complex system dedicated to the intelligent home comfort management. It is built into the system engineering process defined by EIA-632, which uses UML and SYSML standards to identify the requirements, model the control logics of the system and formally validate its dynamic properties, all in a semi-automated way. In addition, sequential patterns may exhibit periodicity as well, i.e. during weekends 80% of people who watch a movie in cinemas will have a meal in a restaurant afterwards. This is a problem that has not been studied in the literature. To confront the problem of discovering periodicity for sequential patterns we adopt and extend a periodic pattern mining approach which has been utilised in association rule mining. However, due to the sequential/temporal nature of sequential patterns, the process of finding the periodicity of a given sequential pattern increases the complexity of the above mentioned association rule mining approach considerably. As a key attribute of any data mining strategy we provide a comprehensive and flexible problem definition framework for the above mentioned problem. Two main mining techniques are introduced to facilitate the mining process. The Interval Validation Process (IVP) is introduced to neutralise complexities which emerge due to the temporal/sequential nature of sequential patterns, whereas the Process Switching Mechanism (PSM) is devised to increase the efficiency of the mining process by only scanning relevant data-sets from the source database. An ontological approach consisting of integrated ontologies: a core meta-ontology, according to ANSI/ISA S95 standard and different domain specific ontologies for the primary steelmaking is proposed. For the purposes of planning and scheduling the integration between the core meta-ontology and a hot strip mill domain ontology is achieved and a case study is presented.
