Although these topics have been intensely publicized, the general reaction of the population and, implicitly, of the local communities, towards these signals has been week and isolated. Consequently, the study aims at examining the perception of local Carpathian communities, as actors involved in sustainable development, which are required to assume an active participation in the sustainable management (SFM) of the forests lying in the vicinity of residential areas. In order to accomplish this, an interview was applied in eight pilot areas from the Southern Carpathians. The results reveal that, regardless of education level, the respondents have a deep environmental knowledge about forest ecosystems, a perception in which the interest goes primarily to forest maintenance and only then to economic harvesting. The perception regarding the forests' condition, the activity of the administrators and the specific legislation is predominantly negative. In order to overcome the dysfunctions the members of local communities support legislation improvement, the increase of environmental awareness by education, being willing to get involved in a wide range of activities to enhance SFM. The study may be a useful tool for policy makers and for improving the activities by involving local population, which is the main target of SFM.","PeriodicalId":30556,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Environmental and Tourism Analyses","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-12-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"46007109","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the assessment of tourism potential, a quantitative model consisting of two groups of indicators (resource values and state of development) conceived of seven sub-indicators that were ranked and evaluated by respondents in the field, was applied. The results of the study show that the total tourist potential of the Ibar cultural tourism zone is 0.756, which classifies it as an area with high potential. A substantial difference in grading can be noticed by comparing two groups of indicators. The value of the resource is 0.812, and the value of the development state is 0.700. The main value of the study is that for the first time, a model based on quantitative calculations is applied in order to determine the tourist potential of the Ibar cultural tourism zone monasteries. The study also highlights the advantages and disadvantages and contributes to better promotion and development of this area.","PeriodicalId":30556,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Environmental and Tourism Analyses","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-12-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"42736226","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Through a comprehensive approach, based on statistical data, we show the huge differences between the summer and the off-season offer, providing a starting point for future studies, both from official and field sources. The Krugman's Core-Periphery model clearly emphasizes that the development of a core neglects the periphery, and seasonality only accentuates its affectation until its complete abandonment, stagnation of development or regression. The impact of seasonality on the Romanian Black Sea seaside determines, to a certain extent, the development of egocentric poles, around which satellite-resorts are extremely dependent, their improvement requiring a research of all economic indicators involved. The development of the Northern Zone to the detriment of the Southern one has led to the emergence of extremely comprehensive results on the current situation, and the intense study of this area could reduce the socio-economic gap between them, being profitable for both private and public.","PeriodicalId":30556,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Environmental and Tourism Analyses","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-12-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"41493131","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this context, the aim of the study is to analyze the level of involvement of the local community in the food industry through their inputs and outputs in Azuga mountain resort. The methodology consisted of: consulting national and international literature on the involvement of local communities in tourist services as an intrinsic element of the sustainable development of tourist destinations; field research and observations in the year 2017; research methods and tools such as investigation and semi-structured interviews. Graphs and charts were processed using Microsoft Office Excel 2016 software and maps were processed using ArcGis 10.4.1. The results show that the involvement of the population in the food services sector is moderately sustainable and that it can be maximized; the cause for this is the migration of the work force from the surrounding towns and communes to Azuga, which leads to an increased carbon footprint because of the constant commute. The local food system involved in tourism as well as the local entrepreneurial initiatives tend to be sustainable, but they can be improved by including products of local mountain farming. The study concludes that national tourism policies and local authorities should take steps to encourage the involvement of the local community in the food services sector. The study is useful for the research of this topic, as well as for tourism stakeholders and government administrations in the hope of bringing positive change to the management policies of sustainable destinations.","PeriodicalId":30556,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Environmental and Tourism Analyses","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-10-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"45063061","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This cultural product was designed and was included by recent development policies and cultural agendas in the attempt to launch post-communist Romanian tourism products on the international market and counterpart the severe socio-economic transformation process Despite their novelty and enthusiastic support from behalf of administrative authorities these events generate less tourism attractiveness than expected and are often randomly mingled with different types of events within a local cultural agendas part of the ‘festivalisation’ process that characterized the democratic Romania after 1990. However festivals and cultural events may be considered an important triggering factor of change in the Romanian socio-economic transition process. Our study attempts to identify the form in which festivals and cultural events are to be found in the contemporary Romania and to extensively analyze the existing most important cultural event tourist destinations as the main reinventing and promoting centers of the continuously evolving and profoundly changed socioeconomic autochthonous landscape. Considering both the issues involved by a profoundly changed post-communist landscape and the overpower of mediatized gaze in tourism an extended analyses of the destination internet sites and of their cultural agendas was made from which positive and negative aspects for the large Romanian cities and their main events as cultural tourism attractors were detached.","PeriodicalId":30556,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Environmental and Tourism Analyses","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-10-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"46738593","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Ski slope planning should take into account several factors: relief, land use, biodiversity, access, water resources, weather conditions, the ownership legal status of the land, facilities and community services, and number of potential skiers. Thus, the study aims to analyse the environmental and economic gains and weaknesses of one recent launched Romanian Carpathians ski slope, named Cocoș. The results reveal that in recent years, in Romania a lot of settlements developed ski slopes in order to expand the leisure opportunities for their population and to increase the number of tourists. In some cases, the development of ski areas doesn’t take into account the required natural preconditions, such as altitude and climate, thus effecting their dysfunctional operation. This is the case of the ski slope outside Bistrița municipality, which has been constructed, with money from a bank loan, in a low altitude area with reduced snowfall. Thus, during the 2017-2018 winter season, the ski slope has be opened for just 10 days, getting an income of almost €20, 000, while maintenance costs rise to nine times more than the revenue. Our findings demonstrate that ignoring the environmental conditions and with superficial feasibility study send this project as an example of bad practices in the field of leisure and tourism. In order to recover the investment costs and to utilize the cable transport facility, the municipality intends to use the chairlift during summer; building an alpine coaster and outfitting the lift with bicycle trailers also without a scientific and/or a marketing approach could compromise further the investments.","PeriodicalId":30556,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Environmental and Tourism Analyses","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-10-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"44737241","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
