The implementation of these acts, including the publication of agency learning agendas, will continue to strengthen evaluation requirements, capacity, and funding in federal Legislation. They also have changed government operations and increased the emphasis on data gathering and evidence-based programs. As federal agencies build on the precedent set by the GPRA Modernization Act and incorporate the new requirements of the Evidence Act into their operations, evidence building through grant making will likely become a more robust practice. grantmaking.","PeriodicalId":30465,"journal":{"name":"Policy Perspectives","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"70139070","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The credit amount varies tremendously depending on the number of dependents one has. This discrepancy is the paper’s main focus. This paper finds that the EITC’s failure to significantly help taxpayers without dependents, among other challenges, limits its ability to fulfill the program’s goals of incentivizing work and reducing poverty. The four recommendations on average would expand the availability and amount of the credit for most lower-income taxpayers. A conventional economic analysis suggests that these changes would likely incentivize work for many (though not all) affected individuals, increase consumer spending, reduce poverty, and increase equity. In a somewhat limited manner, this paper recommends the set of changes for enactment.","PeriodicalId":30465,"journal":{"name":"Policy Perspectives","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"70139013","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The analysis shows that this event would have more negative effects on Russia than the EU. The increase in import tariffs would benefit the EU with increase in profits but would lead to an increase in the cost of products for buyers in the short term, pushing them into new, more advantageous markets. Although Russia is trying to replace EU products with Asian ones, and gaining success too, the case of foreign direct investment (FDI) is different, as the country is still heavily dependent on EU.","PeriodicalId":30465,"journal":{"name":"Policy Perspectives","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"66273565","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Reported cases of sexual assault have risen year-after-year over the past decade, and the statistics make it abundantly clear that the systems currently in place to protect those who have sworn to defend us have failed. In the months since the horrific and highly publicized death of Army Specialist Vanessa Guillen, the American public has seen an increasing number of calls for sweeping change to the ways that sexual harassment and sexual assault are handled in the military, but there are a number of barriers that stand in the way of sustainable reform. Foremost among these challenges is the chain of command involvement in the reporting and prosecution process, which is often avoided by victims out of a legitimate fear of workplace retaliation.","PeriodicalId":30465,"journal":{"name":"Policy Perspectives","volume":"28 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"70138215","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In Pakistan, where the housing demand backlog is an astonishing 10 million units, housing shortage is a function of both quantity and affordability. To tackle the situation, in 2018 the government of Pakistan introduced the Naya Pakistan Housing Project with the stated aim to increase housing for the poor. This paper uses microeconomic theory to gauge the impact of two specific provisions proposed to be implemented under the Naya Pakistan Housing Project: allocation of public land for low-cost housing and promotion of low-income housing finance. It is argued that although theoretically, both provisions will not produce any dead-weight loss in the housing market and will result in increased consumption of housing, it is unclear whether they provide housing to the particularly needy segments of the population for which they were intended. It is recommended that further provisions are made to ensure that low-income borrowers are prioritized and protected from rent-seeking speculative buyers who are better positioned to take advantage of the Naya Pakistan Housing Project. The paper also recommends that Benazir Income Support Programmer’s registry be used to disburse credit to needy segments.","PeriodicalId":30465,"journal":{"name":"Policy Perspectives","volume":"28 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"70138562","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
