Sometimes, however, they are too abstract for students to understand them only from the lecture. Therefore we were looking for a way how to explain at least some of them to students. In recent years, the use of digital games at all levels of education has come to the focus of researchers and educators. The advantage of this approach is, among others, learning in a natural and interesting way. Since there are still very few good-quality educational games, we have decided to design, implement and test our own mobile game for teaching the algorithm of inserting new nodes to an AVL tree. In this paper, we describe designing of the game as a learning tool and introduce the first results from testing the game in a university course.","PeriodicalId":304523,"journal":{"name":"2018 16th International Conference on Emerging eLearning Technologies and Applications (ICETA)","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132008690","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In a more meticulous formulations, the same opinion is expressed by making it indistinguishable from abstraction, symbolic representation, and symbolic manipulation. Such opinions lower its important role in our social life and, consequently, build an inappropriate starting point for education - not only in Mathematics but in a wide range of other subjects. In this contribution, we open door for a different educational basis using arguments from Knowledge Management. The above opinions do not consider that all our knowledge requires extensive amount of tacit knowledge. In the present course, tacit knowledge is oriented “inside” i.e. to optimal execution of formal operations. Here we demonstrate how to build “external” tacit knowledge i.e. learners' comprehension of links between Mathematics and real world. To evoke their interest, non-traditional (“absurd”) problems in are used. The simple examples demonstrate Mathematics' power, limits and role in society. The paper also calls for creating similar problems in other disciplines in order to prepare STEM students for their effective participation in multidisciplinary teams.","PeriodicalId":304523,"journal":{"name":"2018 16th International Conference on Emerging eLearning Technologies and Applications (ICETA)","volume":"14 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133765586","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Such benefits are also achievable while testing and evaluating configurations of manageable network devices (e.g. routers or switches). This is especially crucial in education, where many students configure many devices and their teacher must check whether the configurations are correct. This paper is focused on such a problem. We propose a new method, along with a corresponding tool, that is able to load the configurations to be tested and compare them against correct configurations, provided by a teacher. It does not only compare the text in configuration files, but also takes into account structural characteristics of configuration commands. The proposed tool also evaluates the configurations in terms of percentage and obtained points, and thus it can be also used for student exams.","PeriodicalId":304523,"journal":{"name":"2018 16th International Conference on Emerging eLearning Technologies and Applications (ICETA)","volume":"104 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123289200","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Schools use this method to obtain required information from the student. We discovered that many students had problems with filling-out the university application and that the user experience of current systems is awful. This paper is dedicated to improving the experience by experimental form of replacing whole design from traditional electronic forms into conversational design in form of a chatbot. This design was compared to the current system used on the Technical University of Košice by usability testing. In the evaluation we focused on whether this design shortened the fill-out time of the application, if applicants made less errors and if the user satisfaction was improved by the chatbot. There is still a lot to be done to allow replacement of the old system with this system, but our results suggest that a chatbot system could facilitate the submission of university applications.","PeriodicalId":304523,"journal":{"name":"2018 16th International Conference on Emerging eLearning Technologies and Applications (ICETA)","volume":"207 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124655370","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Although the first optical systems started to be used at the beginning of 1980s, the last forty years have brought unprecedented development of these systems. Today's optical transmission systems play key role for satisfaction bandwidth demands. This paper provides short insight into the technological evolution of optical transmission systems and show why these systems are mostly used in long-haul and metro networks. The first transmission systems had transmission capacity around 45 Mb/s, today's capacity is beyond 2 Pb/s. We looked at the key technologies as well as their future trends.","PeriodicalId":304523,"journal":{"name":"2018 16th International Conference on Emerging eLearning Technologies and Applications (ICETA)","volume":"115 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124707416","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Electronic textbooks and learning systems are being developed also virtual school environment is being created. Last but not least, e-Iearning and automated learning systems have started to develop significantly. The basic role in developing and improving learning systems is to create a customized system. Under this concept, the ability of the system to adapt to the individual features, capabilities, user needs, and also the ability to respond to changes in the area and the external environment. The role of developing an adaptive learning system is addressed in a variety of ways and methods for which there are no clear recommendations. The adaptability can be determined in a variety of ways for different types of systems. For the implementation of the adaptive environment, it is necessary to define the characteristics of the adaptive model, the characteristics of the user as well as the essential information about the processes important for building the personal interface. The characteristics and parameters that define the basic requirements for the development of adaptive learning systems are defined at work.","PeriodicalId":304523,"journal":{"name":"2018 16th International Conference on Emerging eLearning Technologies and Applications (ICETA)","volume":"98 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128906627","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The appropriate responses to these challenges have to be found under conditions when advanced knowledge is no longer created in universities and research institutions only, but is born in a large number distributed small and medium innovation enterprises as well. This encourages the universities and the businesses to search for new institutional forms for innovating education and educating innovation. One of these forms is the establishment of an entrepreneurial university integrated with startup incubator jointly with business. In this case such university by creation based on smart contracts universal digital platform integrated in GVCs (Global Value Chains) actually turns into a modern innovation hub. In turn, such hub is able not only to incubate the startups and develop them into the new innovation enterprises, but to train innovative entrepreneurs as well.","PeriodicalId":304523,"journal":{"name":"2018 16th International Conference on Emerging eLearning Technologies and Applications (ICETA)","volume":"29 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125501005","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The success of digital games has also led to an interest in education digital games at schools. In addition, there are about 2600 elementary schools in Slovakia and so it is interesting to develop various education software. Therefore, an interactive education portal with a virtual environment for playing games and games-based teaching at elementary schools is being developed and improved. The portal consists in the selection of a game type such as a pairs game, a platform game or a movement-based game controlled with a keyboard by a pupil who has to pass through it with her or his answers to the designed questions of a taught or selected topic. The pupil receives an in-game currency called golds on the basis of gained knowledge. The recently added administration module of the portal and its improved gaming environment are presented. The administration module allows the registration of permitted users such as administrators, teachers, pupils and parents into the portal. Particular permitted users have various given privileges. An administrator is a school director or a person authorized by her or him who can add or remove teachers, pupils and parents. Teachers create questions, tests composed of these questions and export the results of pupils to a file. Pupils can work on improving their knowledge or take a test through a video game. Parents are allowed to check the results of their children and contact teachers.","PeriodicalId":304523,"journal":{"name":"2018 16th International Conference on Emerging eLearning Technologies and Applications (ICETA)","volume":"18 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133652344","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
