They present two interconnected approaches to the analysis and lexicographic description of new language units (innovations) - the differential and the integral approach. The first approach involves the study of innovations in comparison with the existing units of the language, the search of criteria for determining their types by the features of their novelty in the language system and in text. The second approach focuses on the degree of stability of innovations in modern Ukrainian, i.e. the importance of concepts they verbalise in the conceptual and the linguistic worldview of the modern Ukrainians. The functional potential of a certain innovation in the linguistic activity of a society is an indicator of the degree of its stability in the language. It is a set of units consisting of innovation by paradigmatic, syntagmatic and epidigmatic (derivational) relations. The analysis of the word as the basic unit of Ukrainian nomination, prediction and evaluation enable the identification of other types of language innovations. The modern Ukrainian lexicon presents the following types of neologisms: new derivatives, new borrowings, neosemanticisms, neographisms, actualised and returned words. The application of the differential approach is advisable when gathering new language material, whereas the integrated approach is necessary when identifying the stabilised linguistic innovations, as it can be a resource for replenishing the general lexicon of a language. The results of the analysis of this new lexicon are presented in the differential and integral neological dictionaries.","PeriodicalId":30153,"journal":{"name":"Juznoslovenski Filolog","volume":"7 1","pages":"105-125"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"72712854","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This is a survey conducted through the poll of two groups of representatives of the Vranje vernacular. Groups of final year high school students from Vranje and teachers teaching in the same schools were selected. In this way, social variables were monitored: origin, age, education and gender. Typical features of Vranje speech were selected from the language variables: consonant dz (dzindza), semi-vowel ? (dan?s), vocative in -e (strinke), enclitic pronouns (gu, gi, ne, ni, ve, vi), the analytical declination (s majku mi, s mene, na mene mi vika, davam na njega), present 3rd person plural in -v, present participle, masculine, singular in -??, future forms without infinitives (ce padnes, ce dodje), lexeme tatko. The above categories also include additional dialectic features marked by Vranje speech: verb forms in -n?-, possessive dative, object reduplication, express analyticism in declination, analyticism in conjugation. The aim of the research is to determine whether diglossive behavior is intrinsic to native Vranje speakers and how code switching occurs in certain speech situations. Speakers? attitudes toward dialect use were also examined. The conclusion is that male speakers of both ages and education levels are mostly interested in maintaining the dialect. The smallest number of speakers who are in the care of the dialect and use the dialect in everyday conversation is in the group of highly educated women. The majority of interviewed Vranjanians are aware of their ability to control speech, which means that they are prone to diglossive behavior. Qualitative and quantitative analysis of the data collected revealed that young male Vranjanian people are most attached to the dialect, and that women of higher education use dialectal elements in speech in the least. The dialectal lines that are most amenable to adaptation could be presented in the order of susceptibility levels: consonant dz, semi-vowel ?, vocative in -e, present 3rd person plural in -v, -?? form, enclitic gu, enclitic gi, enclitics ne, ni, ve, vi, lexis, the analytical declination, infinitives. Such an analysis of the selection of dialect features in order to adapt to the standard also points to the possible internal development of the dialect itself. This would mean that the most subtle lines would gradually disappear from the dialectal structure. It is uncertain whether they will be completely lost and when such changes will occur.","PeriodicalId":30153,"journal":{"name":"Juznoslovenski Filolog","volume":"19 1","pages":"77-105"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"84006265","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Using a corpus of examples from the Ukrainian, Polish, Slovene and Czech languages gathered during fieldwork carried out between 2016 and 2019, the authors show that the informants provide both contact elements and intralinguistic units with metalinguistic comments. Such comments reflect the complex ethnic and confessional composition of the area where the field research was conducted, providing information about the linguistic situation in the communities under scrutiny.","PeriodicalId":30153,"journal":{"name":"Juznoslovenski Filolog","volume":"100 1","pages":"127-156"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"79493820","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is ascertained that they predominantly originated in the late 18th and 19th centuries, that they are a reflection of the social and cultural progress of the Serbs in various areas of material and nonmaterial culture, and that the derivational types involving this suffix were especially productive in the (pre-)Romantic poetic language. The paper also points to the partial productivity of this suffix in contemporary Serbian, its inclination towards terminologisation, as well as to the fact that some derivatives have been relegated to the sphere of archaisms and historicisms.","PeriodicalId":30153,"journal":{"name":"Juznoslovenski Filolog","volume":"46 7 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"80515018","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Some of these lexemes have strict geolinguistic characteristics and are connected with certain areas, which allows for the assumption that they performed the same differential function in the Proto-Slavic language. The areas of the other lexemes are often diffuse, and sometimes synonyms of this type co-exist in the same dialect. Therefore, we can assume that these words may have been synonyms found in the same lexical system in Proto-Slavic as well. Most synonyms were created by semantic or lexical innovations that replaced archaisms, while the rest probably consist of parallel creations.","PeriodicalId":30153,"journal":{"name":"Juznoslovenski Filolog","volume":"34 1","pages":"27-46"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"76152341","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It puts special emphasis on his philological, grammatographic, and etymological principles, as well as on his views about the structure and orthography of the future Serbian language standard. Being a representative of the Enlightenment among Serbs, with his remarkable erudition, wide range of interests, confidence and philological precision, inspired primarily by Dositej Obradovic?s tenets of the standardised Serbian language, Pavle Solaric established a model basis for the future reformative interventions. Therefore, he should undoubtedly be considered one of the first in a long line of scholars whose ideas contributed to the eventual constitution of the standardised Serbian language.","PeriodicalId":30153,"journal":{"name":"Juznoslovenski Filolog","volume":"257 1","pages":"47-77"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"73179361","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The author focuses on the researchers gathered around the international annual titled Etnolingwistyka, the representatives of the approach known as the Lublin School of Cognitive Ethnolinguistics. Two dictionaries are representative of the School: S?ownik stereotyp?w i symboli ludowych (Vol. 1-2, 1996-2020) and the five-volume lexicon titled Leksykon aksjologiczny S?owian i ich s?siad?w (2015-2019). According to the author, based on these two dictionaries and the accompanying publications, it is already possible to compile a glossary of key terms of ethnolinguistics. Such glossary would consist of several key concepts: the linguistic worldview, concept (synonymous with ?stereotype?), viewpoint and perspective, cognitive definition, profiling and profile, subject, values, etc. This terminological apparatus was particularly used in the creation of the said axiological lexicon and has now become the common good of the whole team of authors. This corresponds to Kuhn?s second postulate.","PeriodicalId":30153,"journal":{"name":"Juznoslovenski Filolog","volume":"7 1","pages":"79-103"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"79885699","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Bjeletic","doi":"10.2298/jfi2001041b","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.2298/jfi2001041b","url":null,"abstract":"Contemporary etymological research is largely aimed at rethinking hitherto offered etymological solutions, especially for words that do not have a generally accepted interpretation. One of those words is PSl *kovyl? / *kovyl? ?feather-grass, Stipa pennata?, whose continuants are attested mainly in Eastern and Southern Slavic languages: Ru. kovy?, kovyl, Ukr. kovi?, kovila, Bel. kavy?, Bulg. kovil, koil, kofi l, Mac. kovil, kofi l, SCr. kovilje, Sln. kovilje. The etymological literature has drawn attention to the potential connection of PSl *kovyl? / *kovyl? with the verb *kovy?ati (s?) ?to swing, wobble, stagger?, even though this verb does not have a unanimously accepted interpretation either. This paper departs from the assumption that the phytonym and verb under consideration have a common origin, and that the prefi x *ko- is distinguished in both forms. The verb is related to PSl *v?lati, v?laj? ?to swing, swing on waves?, related to PSl *v?lna ?wave?, *valiti (s?) ?to roll?, and ultimately boils down to the IE root *?elH- ?to roll?. As among the continuants and derivatives of the PSl verb *v?lati there is a variation of the reduced vowels (-?- : -?-) at the root (cf. OCS v?lajati s? ?to oscillate (about waves)?, etc.), forms with the vocalism -?- could serve as a basis for the occurrence of the secondary ablaut *v?l- / *vyl-. Thus, from the unconfirmed prefixed form *ko-v?lati s? (a form without the prefix *v?lati s? is reconstructed!), an intense / iterative *kovyl(j)ati s? could be created in the same meaning. The variance of -ati / -jati can be explained from the original *kovylati, kovilj? (s?), with the subsequent spread of the palatal ? from the present tense stem to the infinitive stem. This also explains the variation of the palatal and non-palatal l at the end of the stem of the deverbal noun *kovyl? / *kovyl?.","PeriodicalId":30153,"journal":{"name":"Juznoslovenski Filolog","volume":"773 1","pages":"41-55"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"85419004","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
