Therefore, many researches have clarified the differences of the purchasing tendency between good and other types of customers; however, in fact, it is hard to say that many retailers can take useful measures for acquiring good customers effectively by taking into account the purchase tendency. On the other hand, a latent class model has been studied as an analysis method to grasp customers’ preferences and purchasing trends from purchasing history data. In this study, we assume latent classes behind customers' purchasing data, and apply the Latent Dirichlet Allocation model to represent the differences in customers’ preferences. This model enables grasping the tendency of purchasing items in each latent class considering diversity and heterogeneity of the features of customers and items. Moreover, we propose a method to extract important items for each customer in terms of turning him/her into a good customer based on the k-nearest neighbor algorithm by using the analysis result of purchasing trends in each latent class. Furthermore, we apply the proposed model to actual purchasing history data and show the possibility of its application in practice.","PeriodicalId":301168,"journal":{"name":"Total Quality Science","volume":"4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-07-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133147391","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The advantage of the MT method is that it makes it possible to detect unknown abnormal patterns. However, the discrimination accuracy is relatively lower than machine learning. In addition, there is a constraint on the variables. Alternatively, machine learning has higher discrimination accuracy than the MT method; however, discrimination of unknown abnormal patterns may be difficult. The purpose of this study is to propose a method that utilizes the strengths of both methods and eliminates the drawbacks of them. By applying AdaBoost to the MT method, the proposed method is evaluated in terms of the following. First, discrimination accuracy comparable to that obtained using machine learning is realized. Second, it is possible to accurately distinguish unknown abnormal patterns, which may pose a challenge when using machine learning. Third, the variable constraint condition in the MT method can be solved. Through analytics of breast cancer data and a created simulation data based on it, we demonstrate the superiority of the proposed method over conventional methods when the data is likely to include unknown abnormal patterns.","PeriodicalId":301168,"journal":{"name":"Total Quality Science","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-12-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130943721","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

During a natural disaster or mass casualty incident, hospitals are likely to receive a large number of injured people. Some hospitals have established a Business Continuity Management System (BCMS) to increase healthcare resilience. One of the most important activities in a BCMS is an internal audit. This enables auditors to grasp certain problems effectively and efficiently by preparing audit items beforehand. Internal audits in BCMS target activities that take place during a disaster. There are some characteristics of disaster medicine, such as the restriction of physical and personnel resources, which do not exist in routine work. It is important to conduct an internal audit by considering these characteristics to improve the continuity of disaster medicine provision. This study aims to identify these characteristics and clarify the audit items for the BCMS. This study also demonstrates the results of an internal audit by applying the proposed audit items at an acute care hospital. Furthermore, although an internal audit has many possible focus areas, this study discusses audits from the perspective of disaster procedure manuals, which enable us to better grasp the details of disaster medicine.","PeriodicalId":301168,"journal":{"name":"Total Quality Science","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-12-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129303531","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

On such sites, consumers cannot take products in their hands, so user reviews of products must be informative for the consumers. However, number of reviews are very large, so consumers cannot read them all. The may miss a very important information which can catch reading all reviews. Purpose of our research is to make a method of indicating only useful reviews for reducing consumer’s burden. We assume that useful reviews are different by consumers. We found that usefulness of reviews differs from consumers’ purpose of browsing review, and also from consumers’ knowledge about purchase target product group. We can classify consumers into six groups. Next we identified factors of useful reviews for each group. Finally we constructed models for evaluating usefulness of each reviews for each group. We made dictionaries for each factor to judge which factors are included in each review. For validating our models, we conducted questionnaires’ survey. Consumers were shown two groups of user reviews, one group contains top 10 useful reviews based on our model, and the other contains original 10 reviews which shopping site shows. We could confirm that our model can show more useful reviews to consumers.","PeriodicalId":301168,"journal":{"name":"Total Quality Science","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-12-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129658109","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These methods detect the points in time when important changes can occur, and are applied to various types of time series data. In this study, we search for change points in financial data from Japanese companies across various industries. By using these methods, we can easily and quantitatively identify companies turning points, helping financial institutions analyze financial indicators over a certain period of time. To obtain sufficient data for the analysis, we use quarterly financial data over the period 2006 to 2015 to apply methods focusing on average values. For the analysis, we select financial indicators such as return on assets, capital adequacy ratio, and rate of sales growth. For each financial indicator, we use the t test to identify change points in data. Then, we run the analysis by grouping data for multiple financial indicators and employing the Hotelling T square test. In this way, we are able to detect turning points that could not be found from a single financial indicator. Finally, we survey the major economic events that occurred around each turning point.","PeriodicalId":301168,"journal":{"name":"Total Quality Science","volume":"10 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-08-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127373038","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, it is difficult to set accurate criteria to detect minute defects, and this results in misclassification. This study focuses on inspection techniques to improve the classification accuracy for an actual inspection process. There are differences in variables, such as raw materials, light color to capture images, and degree of degradation of light brightness, across different manufacturing plants. Previous studies utilized machine learning, image processing, and statistical methods. However, it is not clear how those different methods should be combined for improving the classification accuracy. Therefore, this study provides a comprehensive survey of an optimal combination of methods to increase robustness and improve classification accuracy. Furthermore, the results also suggest that a combination of methods can achieve classification accuracy and robustness exceeding those of previous methods.","PeriodicalId":301168,"journal":{"name":"Total Quality Science","volume":"4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-08-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115259778","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Large amounts of consumer purchase history data can now easily be obtained, and many data-based approaches to identifying consumer purchase trends have been studied. On the other hand, since diversification of consumer consciousness such as their values and lifestyles are important for marketing research, many approaches to identifying the relationship between “consumers’ values and consciousness” and “consumers’ preferences underlying their purchase behavior” have been discussed in the existing literature. To investigate consumers’ values and consciousness, a questionnaire survey is an efficient tool. It is, however, difficult to collect questionnaire responses from all consumers due to cost issues. Therefore, it is difficult to know the values and consciousness of consumers who have not responded to the questionnaire. In this study, we propose a new model to identify both consumer purchase behavior and their consciousness based on a latent class model estimated by questionnaire responses and the purchase history data for all users. In addition, we apply the proposed model to actual data to analyze its effectiveness.","PeriodicalId":301168,"journal":{"name":"Total Quality Science","volume":"10 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-08-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125527978","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
