The recent developments in the Internet of Things (IoT) opened vast opportunities for researchers and developers to implement various systems and applications in the field of Smart Cities and Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS). It is a diverse topic of discussion with several application areas such as smart traffic management, smart street lights or gas and water leak detection. Among these applications, Efficient Waste Collection (WC) is considered a fundamental service for helping maintain a healthier environment for the citizens while reducing operating costs. This paper proposes a new architecture for a smart wastes management system based on artificial intelligence techniques and focuses on the combined use of the Internet of Things (IoT) and surveillance systems as an assistive technology for high Quality of Service (QoS) in waste collection. By integrating deep learning techniques in this sector, important cost reductions can be made while maintaining optimal performance.","PeriodicalId":301027,"journal":{"name":"2020 3rd International Conference on Advanced Communication Technologies and Networking (CommNet)","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127441482","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To provide high-speed moving relays with accurate channel state information different methods have been proposed, among which predictor antenna (PA) is one of the promising ones. Here, the PA system refers to a setup where two sets of antennas are deployed on top of a vehicle, and the front antenna(s) can be used to predict the channel state information for the antenna(s) behind. In this paper, we study the delay-limited performance of PA systems using adaptive rate allocations. We use the fundamental results on the achievable rate of finite block-length codes to study the system throughput and error probability in the presence of short packets. Particularly, we derive closed-form expressions for the error probability, the average transmit rate as well as the optimal rate allocation, and study the effect of different parameters on the performance of PA systems. The results indicate that rate adaptation under finite block-length codewords can improve the performance of the PA system with spatial mismatch.","PeriodicalId":301027,"journal":{"name":"2020 3rd International Conference on Advanced Communication Technologies and Networking (CommNet)","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-08-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124641071","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The entities in both the layers exhibit complex intra-and-interdependencies between them. A reliable decision making by the smart grid operator is contingent upon correct analysis of such dependencies between its entities and also on accurate identification of the most critical entities in the system. The Modified Implicative Interdependency Model (MIIM) [1] successfully captures such dependencies using multi-valued Boolean Logic based equations called Interdependency Relations (IDRs) after most of the existing models made failed attempts in doing that. In this paper, for any given integer K, this model is used to identify the K-most vulnerable entities in a smart grid, failure of which can maximize the network damage. Owing to the problem being NP complete, an Integer Linear Programming (ILP) based solution is given here. Validation of the model [1] and the results of the ILP based solution is done by simulating a smart grid system of IEEE 14-Bus using MATPOWER and Java Network Simulator (JNS). Simulation results prove that not only the model MIIM [1] is correct but also it can predict the network damage for failure of K-most vulnerable entities more accurately than its predecessor Implicative Interdependency Model (IIM) [2].","PeriodicalId":301027,"journal":{"name":"2020 3rd International Conference on Advanced Communication Technologies and Networking (CommNet)","volume":"63 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-08-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128149565","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
