In interval observer-based fault detection methods, the observer gain plays an important role since it determines the minimum detectable fault for a given type of fault and allows enhancing the observer fault detection properties while diminishing model computational drawbacks (i.e. wrapping effect, computational complexity). In this paper, the effect of the observer gain on the time evolution of the residual sensitivity to a fault is analyzed. Then, using these sensitivity studies, the minimum detectable fault time evolution is established. Thus, three types of faults according their detectability time evolution are introduced: permanently (strongly) detected, non-permanently (weakly) detected or just non-detected. Finally, an example based on a mineral grinding- classification process will be used to illustrate the results derived.","PeriodicalId":300509,"journal":{"name":"2007 46th IEEE Conference on Decision and Control","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114932803","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

They form a subset of the larger class of \"swarm intelligence\" algorithms. The central idea is that a 'swarm' of relatively simple agents can interact through simple mechanisms and collectively solve complex problems. Instances that exemplify the above idea abound in nature. The abilities of ant colonies to collectively accomplish complex tasks have served as sources of inspiration for the design of \"ant algorithms\". Examples of \"ant algorithms\" are \"ant routing\" algorithms that have been proposed for communication networks. We analyze in this paper an ant-based routing algorithm for packet-switched wireline networks. The algorithm is an attractive multiple path probabilistic routing scheme, that is fully adaptive and distributed. Using methods from adaptive algorithms and stochastic approximation, we show that the evolution of the link delay estimates can be closely tracked by a deterministic ODE system. A study of the equilibrium points of the ODE then gives us the equilibrium behavior of the routing algorithm, in particular, the equilibrium routing probabilities, and mean delays in the links under equilibrium. We also show that the fixed-point equations that the equilibrium probabilities satisfy are actually the necessary and sufficient conditions of an appropriate optimization problem. Simulations supporting the analytical results are provided.","PeriodicalId":300509,"journal":{"name":"2007 46th IEEE Conference on Decision and Control","volume":"14 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-04-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134543271","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Some obvious candidates stake this claim by virtue of having been made or remade to represent complex concepts or even whole philosophies: “poststructuralism,” “identity,” “discourse,” for example. Others are unassuming, their frequent and commonplace usage obscuring extraordinary accumulated significance. My appreciation for words of the latter type was sharpened when, as a graduate student in the 1980s, I encountered Raymond Williams’s book Culture and Society (1958). The volume tracked changes in the meanings and uses of several words (“industry,” “democracy,” “class,” “art,” “culture”) as a way of mapping “wider changes in life and thought [between 1780 and 1950] to which the changes in language evidently refer.” Williams labeled the words that had taken on significant new meanings “the key words.” In a subsequent volume,","PeriodicalId":300509,"journal":{"name":"2007 46th IEEE Conference on Decision and Control","volume":"53 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116410218","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Through a haptic device, the surgeon tele-operates the medical instrument, fixed on a remote robot that may evolve in free space or in contact. In free space, the surgeon feels the motion of the robot. When contact with tissues occurs, an on-line environment stiffness estimation is performed using an extended Kalman filter with robot modeling error compensation and without considering the contact position. The quality of the telepresence will depend on this estimation. Based on the stability and transparency frequency analysis, the estimated parameter is used to tune the teleoperation scheme and to improve telepresence. The improvement is based on the stability of the haptic feedback teleoperation scheme new rearrangement in which we distinguish between voluntary and involuntary operator positions.","PeriodicalId":300509,"journal":{"name":"2007 46th IEEE Conference on Decision and Control","volume":"28 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-12-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129330093","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The analysis is centred round the notion of an S-hull a relaxed convex hull in the complex plane. In the case of linear dynamics the certificates derived include, as special cases, passivity and dissipativity approaches, though a wider class of dynamics is allowed by employing convexification arguments. As a corollary, it is shown that in the presence of heterogeneous delays in the relative information (in which case stability is delay dependent) a simple scaling can guaranty stability on an arbitrary topology. The condition becomes necessary and sufficient when the delays are homogeneous. Time domain interpretations are finally discussed for certain formulations of the problem.","PeriodicalId":300509,"journal":{"name":"2007 46th IEEE Conference on Decision and Control","volume":"42 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-12-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129349851","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
