The term Samidh or Samidha refers to wood utilized in Yagya rituals. The Buddhist and Zoroastrian cultures also recognize the samidhā as firewood and use them in fire rituals. Scriptures have clear instructions on the size of samidhā and categorize them as per the requirements of the traditions. Samidhā's role in Yagya encompasses its spiritual and philosophical significance, wood types, quality, and usage. This paper reviews its meaning in the broader context of Yagya, discussing its spiritual, scriptural, material, ayurvedic, and astrological aspect. Drawing from Vedic texts, Puranas, and epics like Ramayana and Mahabharata, the article highlights samidhā's symbolic connection to divine energy and cosmic balance. Specific samidhā types, such as Durva grass and Chandan, are explored for their ritual and medicinal applications. The astrological relevance of samidhā usage is discussed, suggesting its influence on energy equilibrium. The research underscores the holistic wisdom of Samidha embedded in ancient Vedic traditions and the potential to revive this knowledge for promoting well-being and spiritual harmony.","PeriodicalId":300166,"journal":{"name":"Interdisciplinary Journal of Yagya Research","volume":"14 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-08-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121700148","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We examined the Yagya fume for particulate matter (PM) and various gas levels. In the open-room environment (n= 40) PM1, PM2.5, and PM10 levels exceeded 1000 µg/m3. However, these levels returned to the baseline of 250 µg/m3 just after the Yagya. Carbon dioxide remained consistent, with median concentrations of 2000 ppm with or without Yagya. Carbon monoxide (CO) levels increased to 20 ppm during the Yagya but remained at 0.4 ppm after the Yagya, like normal air conditions. In the closed-room environment (n= 3), immediate increases in PM levels above 1000 µg/m3 were observed, which gradually decreased to 250 µg/m3 after around 15 hours of Yagya. CO2 and CO levels initially rose and decreased to normal levels after 6 to 7 hours. Nitrogen oxides NOx and Ozone exhibited slight increases during Yagya, while Sulfur Dioxide SO2 levels remained unchanged. We suggest that the high PM levels during Yagya are unique to the source, viz., medicinal wood, Ghee, and Hawan samagri (herbal mixture), necessitating further investigation.","PeriodicalId":300166,"journal":{"name":"Interdisciplinary Journal of Yagya Research","volume":"102 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-08-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131744968","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The ancient practice of Yagya, a ritual centered around Agni, has evolved through time, maintaining its relevance in modern India. Agni's teachings are reflected in Vedic mantras and are interwoven into the fabric of daily life through rituals like Balivaishya Yagya. The manuscript discusses Agni's role in 16 Sanskaras, guiding individuals through life's stages while promoting values and virtues. It also explores Agni's metaphysical dimension, manifested as sacred eternal flames or lamps, revered by Yogis and the masses alike. The spiritual essence of Agni is emphasized through practices like Yogagni, Pranagni, and Mantragni. Additionally, Maharshi Aurobindo's perspective unveils Agni's deep symbolism in Vedic hymns as a bridge between humanity and divine realms. Ultimately, the opinion underscores that Agni is not a mere concept, but an integral thread woven into the tapestry of Indian life, continuing to inspire generations to embrace wisdom, virtue, and spiritual growth.","PeriodicalId":300166,"journal":{"name":"Interdisciplinary Journal of Yagya Research","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-08-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131008370","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Traditional Medicine offers interesting possibilities for combating drug resistance, with various plants producing secondary metabolites that exhibit biological activities. This study aims to evaluate the antimicrobial effects of an alcoholic extract of an ethnobotanical mixture (Hawan Samagri) against clinical isolates. The mixture consists of six herbs commonly used in the Hawan ritual in India i.e. Giloy, Nagarmotha, Palash, Bakuchi, Bel, Kapoor kachari} and Chid. The study tested its extract against 11 clinical bacterial isolates using the microbroth dilution method. The results demonstrated that the alcoholic extract exhibited antimicrobial activity against all tested bacterial isolates, indicating potential broad-spectrum activity. The study also revealed varying levels of resistance among the isolates: Acinetobacter baumannii, Klebsiella pneumoniae, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa were most resistant, while Branhamella catarrhalis and Proteus vulgaris were relatively medium resistant, and the remaining five bacteria, i.e. Escherichia coli, Salmonella enterica, Coagulase-positive staphylococci, Citrobacter freundii and Coagulase-negative staphylococci, were relatively least resistant. Although the study provides valuable insights into the antimicrobial potential of the ethnobotanical mixture, further research is required to determine the specific concentrations, active compounds, and mechanisms of action along with their efficacy and optimal dosage. Nevertheless, these findings contribute to the use of indigenous resources for combating antimicrobial resistance and suggest the potential of incorporating such herbal mixtures into the daily practices of Hawan as a preventive measure.","PeriodicalId":300166,"journal":{"name":"Interdisciplinary Journal of Yagya Research","volume":"21 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-08-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123862328","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, the quality control and quality assurance still remains a challenge because of the high variability of chemical components involved. T. cordifolia is commonly referred to as Amrita or Guduchi. All the parts of the plant are immensely useful due to the presence of different secondary metabolites. We aimed to investigate the qualitative and quantitative (carbohydrate and poly-phenolic compound) analysis of secondary metabolites present in extracts of Tinospora cordifolia powder and its herbal fume (generated from Yagya), followed by the study of its antimicrobial activity against E. coli and P. aeruginosa. The present study's powder and fume cocktail (hexane, ethyl-ether and methanol) extracts (10 mg/ml) showed 30 mm and 21.67 mm Zone of inhibition against E.coli respectively indicating equivalent efficiency of herbal fumes. Similarly, fumes contained all secondary metabolites qualitatively to that of powder extract. In addition, carbohydrate and poly-phenolic compound present in the fume extracts (0.277 mg/g and 0.29mg/g), were equivalent or higher than powder extracts (0.131 mg/g and 0.26mg/g) indicating Tinospora cordifolia's fume holistic utility.","PeriodicalId":300166,"journal":{"name":"Interdisciplinary Journal of Yagya Research","volume":"32 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-10-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129497112","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Various cultures such as Indian, Chinese, Tibetan, Japanese, etc. widely use ghee for religious purposes. In India, Ghee is an essential component of most of the rituals. Ayurveda suggests different types of vegetative oils and ghee (clarified butter) for Ayurvedic preparations. Both ghee and peanut oil are commonly used in food preparations. Besides for eating, both ghee and peanut oil lamps are also commonly used for lighting lamps in India. Hence, evaluating the emissions from these lamps is of interest. In the present comparative study we have evaluated the emission of air pollutants: Particular Matter (PM1, PM2.5, PM10), Sulphur Dioxide (SO2), Nitrogen Dioxide (NO2), Ozone, Carbon Monoxide (CO), and Carbon Dioxide (CO2) from peanut oil and ghee lamps. We found that there was no significant difference between oil and ghee lamps for all emissions except for CO, where there was a significant reduction (15.93%, p= 0.0183) in ghee lamps compared to peanut oil lamps. Lower CO from ghee lamps than that from peanut oil lamps might be due to differences in the combustion efficiency resulting from chemical structure differences. Thus, the present finding of reduced CO emission from ghee lamps supports its wide use as a component in Indian religious purposes, Vedic-rituals of Yagya or Havan and meals.","PeriodicalId":300166,"journal":{"name":"Interdisciplinary Journal of Yagya Research","volume":"33 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-10-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115327100","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
