Design method is applied to the laboratory setup of a finite-buffer multiple re-entrant flow line FMS. Control of the FMS is based on a matrix model approach which significantly reduces the computational effort. The results obtained during experiments have confirmed that effectiveness of matrix-based FMS control in terms of deadlock-free operation is a fully feasible goal.","PeriodicalId":300130,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 1999 IEEE International Symposium on Intelligent Control Intelligent Systems and Semiotics (Cat. Neither is the discussion about emotions in artificial beings. The problem is that myth and misconceptions almost always surround this discussion. It happens due to our difficulty to deal formally with the concepts of emotions. The paper uses the concepts of computational semiotics and others to give this discussion some theoretical background and possibly make its implementation possible.","PeriodicalId":300130,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 1999 IEEE International Symposium on Intelligent Control Intelligent Systems and Semiotics (Cat. The resulting intelligent controller increases the spacecraft autonomy substantially. The scheme is based on the general methodology of multiple models, switching, and tuning and is developed in the context of nonlinear spacecraft dynamics. Excellent response obtained using the proposed scheme is illustrated through numerical simulations.","PeriodicalId":300130,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 1999 IEEE International Symposium on Intelligent Control Intelligent Systems and Semiotics (Cat. This paper counters the popular belief by describing a mathematical technique incorporating emotions into intelligent control systems and establishes relationships between mathematical, psychological and philosophical analyses of emotions. Many control systems incorporate signals that are directly related to emotional signals. The author argues that adaptive systems have to incorporate emotional signals, and the understanding of the roles of emotions and concepts is important for the design of intelligent system architectures. The paper analyses the learning process, describes the mathematics of the learning instinct, and presents aesthetic emotions as signals related to the learning values of objects. The developed mathematical technique is practically useful for engineering designs.","PeriodicalId":300130,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 1999 IEEE International Symposium on Intelligent Control Intelligent Systems and Semiotics (Cat. The first problem is one of achieving exact tracking when the controllers communicate to each other their control decisions but not their measured system outputs. The second problem is concerned with unknown communication delays in the control of distributed systems.","PeriodicalId":300130,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 1999 IEEE International Symposium on Intelligent Control Intelligent Systems and Semiotics (Cat. A defect recognition method for foundry pieces in this field is proposed. The system classifies the pieces and selects the apt ones, which will later be machined within the automobile industry. The inspection of the pieces is carried out applying ultrasonic sensing. Due to the ultrasound properties, this type of vision is very appropriate for industrial environments. Starting from the signal reflected from the pieces, the treatment of the data is approached in two significant steps. First, the discrete wavelet transform, DWT, is applied to the analysis of ultrasonic waves for feature extraction. Second, a neural network is used to carry out the discrimination of the foundry pieces. This automated signal classification system obtains great results and the use of the tandem DWT analysis-neural network is shown to be a powerful technique for this type of application.","PeriodicalId":300130,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 1999 IEEE International Symposium on Intelligent Control Intelligent Systems and Semiotics (Cat.
