Given this scenario, the objective of this study is to present the first record of White-lipped Frog consumption by subsistence hunters in the Amazon region of Rondônia. The data were collected through interviews with two migrant hunters from the state of Espírito Santo, currently residing in the municipality of Itapuã do Oeste in Rondônia. The hunters used to consume white-lipped frog (possibly Leptodactylus latrans) in their state of origin, and after locating a similar species (Leptodactylus macrosternum) and confirming the possibility of consumption with the mother through WhatsApp, they started consuming the frog. This record demonstrates how certain habits related to the consumption of wild animals can be maintained in new locations and how instant messaging tools can collaborate with information exchange about game species.","PeriodicalId":29999,"journal":{"name":"Biotemas","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-08-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"42152322","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Here we report the first observation of the species in Santa Catarina State, southern Brazil. On 12 November 2019 an adult male of P. marginatus was observed in the municipality of São Francisco do Sul, on the northeastern coast of Santa Catarina, during an inventory for the creation of a protected area. The species was also observed on three other occasions in the same locality. These are the first known records for Santa Catarina and extend the known distribution range of this species 40 km southward. We also discuss some explanations for the records.","PeriodicalId":29999,"journal":{"name":"Biotemas","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-08-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"43751247","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study presents a survey of the composition and richness of macroinvertebrates (Insecta Class) associated with different species of aquatic macrophytes and evaluates the water quality of the Tanque de Aroeiras reservoir, Caetite, Bahia. Macroinvertebrates were collected from macrophyte banks of different biotypes (Nymphaea L.; Ludwigia L.; Polygonum ferrugineum Wedd.) and identified at the family taxonomic level. The Biological Monitoring Working Party System (BMWP) and Average Score per Rate (BMWP-ASPT) indices were determined. A total of 7,120 specimens were recorded, with a richness of 27 families, distributed in the following orders: Coleoptera, Diptera, Ephemeroptera, Hemiptera, Odonata and Trichoptera. Coleoptera showed greater richness, while dipterans showed greater dominance, with Chironomidae being more abundant. This fact may be associated with a variety of aquatic life habits that contribute to a greater availability of food resources. The results of the BMWP-ASPT classified the water in this reservoir as likely to be moderately polluted. All things considered, this study highlights the importance of new research for added knowledge regarding the macroinvertebrate community and its application in evaluating the water quality of this reservoir.","PeriodicalId":29999,"journal":{"name":"Biotemas","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-08-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"44986094","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Nowadays, the NF management plans propose the conversion of Pinus stands into native forests. Pinus spp. are worrisome invasive plants whose spontaneous recruitment is a challenge to forest restoration. This paper aims to analyze seed rain and woody community composition in a stand where Pinus trees were eliminated to drive spontaneous regeneration (REG) in an NF in the Southern Atlantic Forest. The seed rain was measured in the restoring area and inside an adjacent Pinus stand (PIN). The tree community structure was analyzed comparatively in REG, PIN, and in a Native Araucaria Forest (NAT). One year after Pinus cutting, the seed rain of woody species was 1,802 and 1,502 seeds m-2.year-1 in REG and PIN, respectively. REG’s seed rain had higher diversity than PIN and absence of Pinus seeds. REG and NAT presented higher diversity of tree species than PIN, although REG had the lowest basal area and tree density. Nevertheless, 188 Pinus seedlings.ha-1 were observed in REG, which indicates that complementary restoration actions are needed.","PeriodicalId":29999,"journal":{"name":"Biotemas","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"70511602","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this work, the catch variations of the lobsters Panulirus meripurpuratus (red spiny), Panulirus laevicauda (smoothtail) and Scyllarides brasiliensis (Brazilian slipper lobster) in Pernambuco in the years 1999 to 2006 were evaluated to determine trends in monthly production rates and the relationship between the catches made in the closed period and during open season. Seasonal catches were studied from exponential models and correlation analysis. The exponential models were significant and showed determination coefficients above 0.65 for red spiny in all years and for smoothtail starting in 2002, and they described the decline in catches from the beginning to the end of the season. The biomass of the smoothtail showed a more pronounced decline compared to the red lobster, possibly because the capture coefficient would be higher. As for the Brazilian slipper lobster, the models had values of determination coefficients always below 0.40. The correlation between legal and illegal capture was significant only for smoothtail and showed a positive trend. The initial magnitude of the catch for red spiny below 25 tonnes at the beginning of the fishing season can be an alarming indication, whereas for smoothtail, this value can be 10 tonnes. Studies with surplus production models are necessary to better assess stocks and verify the hypothesis that smoothtail would have a higher capture coefficient than that of red spiny.","PeriodicalId":29999,"journal":{"name":"Biotemas","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"42570013","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The genus is represented by 36 species and 14 which found in Brazil. This study describes the biology, external morphology of the immature stages and the monitoring of the pupal stage of Rothschildia aurota speculifera (Walker, 1855). The first instar head chaetotaxy, egg and pupa stages are compared with other Saturniidae species belonging to Hemileucinae, Ceratocampinae, and Saturniinae and the natural history with other Rothschildia species. The egg stage had duration of 12-14 days, larval 34-39 days; pre-pupa and pupa totaled 37-632 days. The duration of last immature stage indicates that this subspecies is diapausante. Five instars were confirmed by the Dyar rule, with a growth rate of K = 1.4.","PeriodicalId":29999,"journal":{"name":"Biotemas","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"48652860","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

For that, two cultivars of contrasting habit and cycle (IAPAR 61-Ibipora and UPFA 21-Moreninha) were cultivated in the field and in a vase in the city of Passo Fundo, in the north of the state of Rio Grande do Sul. Morphological evaluations were performed on the panicle, spikelets and pollen grains of the cultivars. In the cv. IAPAR 61- Ibipora were found the largest lengths of spikelet, rachilla, gulms I, gulms II, palea, ridge and pistil. In the cv. UPFA 21-Moreninha there was found greater length of the rachis, lemma and anther in the apical and greater density of spikelets in the panicle. About the pollen viability, the cultivars do not differ from each other, evidencing that only pollen grains measurements were contrasting.","PeriodicalId":29999,"journal":{"name":"Biotemas","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"47659333","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A total of 135 samples were obtained during three months in 2015. The hypothesis between densities at depths up to 5 cm (density 5) and between 5 and 10 cm (density 10) was evaluated with the Student t-test. Generalized linear models were applied to evaluate the variable density 10 with spatial, temporal and abundance explanations. The results of the best model were interpolated by geostatistical methods. Densities were significantly higher at density 5 (450 ind.m²) than at density 10 (7 ind.m²). Among the models evaluated, the zero-inflated negative binomial was selected, with the interpolated predictions being credible considering that observed, and the variables used were density 5, latitude, longitude (transformed) and month (continuous). The presence of A. flexuosa in deeper layers of the substrate may result from an accidental burial and may be attributed to physical forcing and not to a behavioral cause. Therefore, the management of this species must consider fishing gear that does not penetrate the substrate beyond the preferred layer, thus not impacting non-target animals in fishing.","PeriodicalId":29999,"journal":{"name":"Biotemas","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"46293969","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
