Distinct conversion phenomena are not mobilized to be explained by the templates presented, but to evince what are the pressupositions and the applicability of these templates. In this way, and by supporting itself with ethnographic examples, it aims to reposition certain questions about what would be properly called a conversion and how it might take place. Lastly, it analyses how the movements of conversion contemplated implicate a challenge to the notions of acculturation or social change.","PeriodicalId":29987,"journal":{"name":"Religiao e Sociedade","volume":"29 1","pages":"200-221"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"67280027","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Knowing how not know to dance is a central part of the performative competence acquired by women attending those classes. Under the light of concepts outlined by Michael Taussig (1999) in Defacement: Public Secrecy and the Labor of the Negative the \"not knowing\" how to dance tango by women is interpreted as a sacred ignorance that preserves the magic powers of the tango and the place of men as the sole creators of women’s mobility.","PeriodicalId":29987,"journal":{"name":"Religiao e Sociedade","volume":"47 1","pages":"126-145"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://sci-hub-pdf.com/10.1590/S0100-85872009000100006","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"67280015","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Numa area de exploracao de ouro em pequena escala, perto do Rio Lawa, um bordel (cabare) marcou a primeira ocupacao da area. Alguns anos depois, esse mesmo bordel virou uma igreja e esse fato inusitado acrescenta mais um elemento da economia moral da cultura do garimpo: a prostituicao. Este texto explora a relacao entre prosperidade e moralidade (marital e sexual) nos campos de ouro, e o papel das instituicoes, praticas e ideias religiosas no imaginario do bem-estar, sorte, riqueza subita e a experiencia de ser capturado por circulos viciosos de trabalho duro e consumo conspicuo.","PeriodicalId":29987,"journal":{"name":"Religiao e Sociedade","volume":"28 1","pages":"78-83"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"67279941","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Based on the notion of a historical anthropology, I analyze the authorship as an invented tradition that results from a political process of ethnic emergence. Through the ethno history of this Indian group, I present the context of construction of an Indian tradition - the Tore ritual - that legitimates itself by using categories pertaining to a religious tradition of Northeast Brazil called Jurema's complex. By doing so, I intend to show the relation formed between the Tore ritual and the emergence of a native notion of authorship constructed in it.","PeriodicalId":29987,"journal":{"name":"Religiao e Sociedade","volume":"28 1","pages":"56-79"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"67279975","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
