However, these institutions have distinct roles which should not be confused. By allowing the student to treat a teacher as an aunt, a confusion is created in the mind of the child; after all, how to understand that the aunt teacher does not allow everything that the family aunt allows? This review study aims to investigate the reasons of the aunt fad, attributed to the teacher and to point negative aspects of this treatment. To do so, were utilized the ideas defended by Novaes (1992) and Freire (1997). The author believes that the denomination of aunt was attributed by mothers who worked out of home and did not want to leave their children at the mercy of an authoritarian teacher. Freire affirmed that this denomination had an ideological character in order to impede the teachers to fight for their rights. The study concluded that calling the teacher by aunt could lead the students to form an improper concept of the role that the teacher and the school have in their lives.
