Consequently, e-waste represents a primary global concern in modern society since electronic equipment contains hazardous substances, and if not managed properly, it will harm human health and the environment. Thus, the necessity for more innovative, safer, and greener systems to handle e-waste has never been more urgent. To address this issue, a smart e-waste management system based on the Internet of Things (IoT) and Deep Learning (DL) based object detection is designed and developed in this paper. Three state-of-the-art object detection models, namely YOLOv5s, YOLOv7-tiny and YOLOv8s, have been adopted in this study for e-waste object detection. The results demonstrate that YOLOv8s achieves the highest mAP@50 of 72% and map@50-95 of 52%. This innovative system offers the potential to manage e-waste more efficiently, supporting green city initiatives and promoting sustainability. By realizing an intelligent green city vision, we can tackle various contamination problems, benefiting both humans and the environment.","PeriodicalId":299673,"journal":{"name":"J. In these environments, human activity recognition is critical for detecting abnormal situations, such as falls or health problems, and providing appropriate assistance to inhabitants. Despite their advantages, assisted living environments raise security and privacy concerns due to the collection and storage of sensitive data about their inhabitants. This paper addresses security and privacy concerns related to intelligent environments designed to assist individuals with limitations. It discusses the weaknesses of IoT devices and domotic technologies and presents research conducted by authors to mitigate these issues. This study shows that, despite hardware constraints, it is possible to design a relatively secure assisted living environment that prevents hacker attacks and data leaks. Additionally, it is essential to comprehend which information should be shared with external entities, such as health care services, and when to share it to ensure the inhabitants’ well-being. Our main goal has been to gather knowledge to improve the privacy and data protection of technology-rich assisted living environments implemented to assist people with limitations and their family members in performing their daily tasks.","PeriodicalId":299673,"journal":{"name":"J. The inadvertent inclusion of anomalies in the dataset, resulting from the inherent characteristics of these networks, makes it difficult to isolate interesting events from erroneous measurements. Simultaneously, improvements in data science methods, as well as increased accessibility to powerful computers, lead to these techniques becoming more applicable to everyday data mining problems. In addition to being able to process large amounts of complex streaming data, a wide array of specialized data science methods enables complex analysis not possible using traditional techniques. Using real-world streaming data gathered by a temperature sensor network consisting of approximately 600 nodes, various data science methods were analyzed for their ability to exploit implicit dependencies embedded in unlabelled data to solve the complex task to identify contextual characteristics. The methods identified during this analysis were included in the construction of a software pipeline. The constructed pipeline reduced the identification of characteristics in the dataset to a trivial task, the application of which led to the detection of various characteristics describing the context in which sensors are deployed.","PeriodicalId":299673,"journal":{"name":"J. Bogdanovic (1993), an architect and former mayor of Belgrade, coined the neologism ‘urbicide’ to designate an enterprise of urban destruction which goes beyond the simple strategic objective of the physical destruction of the city, but that of the annihilation of memories, identities, and cultures associated with the city in question and its urbanity, that is to say, of the ‘ritualized murder of the city’. At the end of these multiple conflicts, the cities and the related tourism had to be rebuilt. Over the last twenty years, information technologies, the creation of peer-to-peer digital platforms (Booking, Airbnb, Expedia) and virtual reality for museum and heritage visits have boosted the attractiveness of the destination and tourism projects. The emergence of tourism projects based on digital and new technologies is booming in the Balkans, particularly the capitals like Belgrade or Sarajevo. By looking at different technological and digital projects for tourism purposes, we will see how local, private, transnational and citizen actors have taken up this project and if this projects contribute to the touristic destination.","PeriodicalId":299673,"journal":{"name":"J. This paper conducts a comprehensive review of current research and applications in green facades, analyzing their role in enhancing energy efficiency, improving indoor air quality, and contributing to overall building sustainability. The impact of green facades on reducing energy consumption, through natural insulation and shading, is explored in-depth, alongside their role in air purification and enhancing the aesthetic appeal of urban environments. Despite the potential of green facades, several gaps between theory and practice exist, including challenges in implementation, maintenance, and cost-effectiveness. This paper identifies these barriers and provides a robust discussion of potential solutions, which include technological innovations, policy support, and public awareness initiatives. Ultimately, the integration of green facades in smart buildings presents a significant step forward in creating sustainable urban environments, necessitating further research and action in this realm.","PeriodicalId":299673,"journal":{"name":"J. However, the real-time analysis of data generated by Smart City Edge Devices (EDs) poses significant challenges. Concept drift, where the statistical properties of data streams change over time, leads to degraded prediction performance. Moreover, the reliability of each computing node directly impacts the availability of DML systems, making them vulnerable to node failures. To address these challenges, we propose a resilience framework comprising computationally lightweight maintenance strategies that ensure continuous quality of service and availability in DML applications. We conducted a comprehensive experimental evaluation using real datasets, assessing the effectiveness and efficiency of our resilience maintenance strategies across three different scenarios. Our findings demonstrate the significance and practicality of our framework in sustaining predictive performance in smart city edge learning environments. Specifically, our enhanced model exhibited increased generalizability when confronted with concept drift. Furthermore, we achieved a substantial reduction in the amount of data transmitted over the network during the maintenance of the enhanced models, while balancing the trade-off between the quality of analytics and inter-node data communication cost.","PeriodicalId":299673,"journal":{"name":"J. Our modern and rushing lifestyle implies at least one fitness tracker or wearable device in most households. Usually, devices are equipped with a set of biosensors, thus producing valuable time series that can be used to track selected areas. The use of bio-sensory time series is not limited to private purposes; data can also be used to improve services in our everyday life. The data generated by bio-sensory devices primarily infiltrate into smart home solutions. However, comprehensive smart home solutions also allow improvements for smart city solutions. The critical factor is the consecutive change in the subject technologies that form the smart city and smart home architectures, including the sensitivity aspects of data originating from confidential sources. Vendors must keep up with this continuous change and release newer and newer solutions, but information systems like HIS (Hospital Information System) or DSS (Decision Support Systems) are not following up at the same speed. This research will demonstrate developments that can make the services of smart ecosystems more valuable by using data collection and analyzing services based on bio-sensory data. Based on the presented research results, smart ecosystems can act considerably more effectively during an epidemic or a pandemic. The research paper focuses on how bio-sensory time series data can be collected and used, how the data can be integrated into smart ecosystems, and how it can be integrated into smart healthcare solutions.","PeriodicalId":299673,"journal":{"name":"J.
