Among them, the fluvial plains (ESFpf) stand out, due to their role in erosion control and water quality. However, the limited information available on this ecosystem is evident when compared to interfluvial plateaus (ESFpi). Thus, this study aimed to evaluate and compare the litter stock and water storage capacity in successional ecosystems in the Eastern Amazonia. The study ecosystems (ESFpf and ESFpi) are located in the municipality of Belém, Pará, in the region of the lower Guamá River. In each ecosystem, 12 permanent plots (100 m²) were installed, where in the periods of higher and lower rainfall, three subunits of litter samples were randomly collected. Water storage in the rainy season did not differ between ecosystems, while in the less rainy season ESFpf (245.91 ± 73.19%) was higher than ESFpi (182.31 ± 77.25%). For the litter stock, there was no influence of seasonality and in both periods the ESFpi averages were higher. Infer that due to the favorable conditions for the action of the edaphic fauna in the ESFpf, there was a reduction in the contact area of the litter, increasing the water storage capacity. The smaller stock found in the ESFpf allow to infer that there was an efficient cycling of nutrients, since these ecosystems are characterized by high litter deposition. Therefore, the results contribute to the understanding of the functional processes of the Amazon river plains ecosystems.","PeriodicalId":299264,"journal":{"name":"REVISTA AGRO@MBIENTE ON-LINE","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-08-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130090713","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Plants affected by this phenomenon show changes in their metabolism and, as a result, are able to increase nutrient absorption and biomass accumulation. Various herbicides have been developed as growth regulators, proving the hormesis hypothesis. The most notable example is the product 2,4-D, originally developed as auxin. This phenomenon can bring benefits for crops, such as increased yield. However, for the technique to be applied in practice, information is still needed to support its potential application in agriculture. The aim of this review was to define the state of the art and measure the effect of the hormesis phenomenon of herbicides in agriculture. To carry out a bibliographical review using the following databases: SciELO, Scopus, Web of Science, Redalyc, EBSCO, and DOAJ. The quality of the studies was assessed using eligibility, inclusion and exclusion criteria, employing the following indexing terms: dichlorophenoxyacetic acid, herbicide subdose, herbicide toxicity, and growth regulator. Based on a summary of the studies identified via electronic or manual searches relating to the phenomenon of hormesis, it was found that the literature on the subject remains ambiguous, with no consensus regarding the real effects of the phenomenon on crop performance. This article further argues that the magnitude of the hormetic effect on crops depends on several factors, such as the subdose, the age of the plant, and other conditions.","PeriodicalId":299264,"journal":{"name":"REVISTA AGRO@MBIENTE ON-LINE","volume":"135 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-07-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116368864","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Although it depends on factors such as location and weed pressure, vegetation cover can even eliminate the need for herbicide application. Considering that the weeds popularly known as pigweed (Amaranthus sp.) have been expanding in agricultural areas and the use of only one form of management is not recommended for their control, this study aimed to evaluate the effect of using cover crop phytomass to control species of the genus Amaranthus. Soil vegetation cover at different percentage levels was evaluated in the control of the following weed species: Amaranthus hybridus, Amaranthus deflexus, and Amaranthus viridis, previously sown. The experimental design was completely randomized in a factorial scheme (9x4), with four replications. The treatments resulted from the combination of nine cover crops with Crotalaria species (Crotalaria juncea, Crotalaria breviflora, and Crotalaria spectabilis), black oats (Avena strigosa), sorghum (Sorghum bicolor), jack bean (Canavalia ensiformis), pigeonpea (Cajanus cajan), lablab bean (Dolichos lablab), and pencilflower (Stylosanthes macrocephala), and four percentage levels of phytomass (control – no phytomass; 50%, 100%, and 200% of the total mean production, identified as CONTROL, T50%, T100%, and T200%, respectively), with four replications. Black oats, pencilflower, and jack bean showed higher potential for controlling Amaranthus hybridus and Amaranthus deflexus, while sorghum and jack bean were more efficient in controlling Amaranthus viridis. Regarding the amount of green mass, the amounts T100% and T200% were the most promising in suppressing weeds.","PeriodicalId":299264,"journal":{"name":"REVISTA AGRO@MBIENTE ON-LINE","volume":"580 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-04-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127427893","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the present research, genetic parameters (variance components – individual REML) and genetic values (mean components – individual BLUP) were estimated in a test of full-sib segregating progenies, aiming at the selection of superior cashew progenies and individuals. A controlled-pollination, segregating population from the cashew genetic breeding program of Embrapa Agroindústria Tropical, comprising four different progenies, each represented by 48 full-sib (FS) individuals, were evaluated over six consecutive crops. The following traits were evaluated: nut yield, mean nut weight, reaction to Anacampsis phytomiella, and reaction to oidium (powdery mildew). The experimental design was of randomised blocks, with four replications and 12 plants per plot. The REML/BLUP geneticstatistical procedure was used to optimise the selection process. It seems reasonable to opt for a selection limit of 14 individuals with superior behaviour to comprise the recombination unit of the next cycle of recurrent selection using the remaining seeds from this breeding population. Plants 25 and 27 from the progeny identified as having the best performance (FS 13/3) for direct cloning were selected to comprise the local trial of the cashew genetic breeding program.","PeriodicalId":299264,"journal":{"name":"REVISTA AGRO@MBIENTE ON-LINE","volume":"3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-03-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123750594","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Increasing the availability of K via fertilisation, would increase the productivity of the lima bean. Therefore, the aim of this study was to evaluate different doses of potassium on productivity in the lima bean. The study was carried out in the field between January and July 2019, in the town of Raposa, Baturité, Ceará. The experimental design was of randomised blocks, with five treatments and four replications. The treatments consisted of the following doses of potassium: 60, 90, 120, 150 and 180 kg ha-1 K2O, using potassium chloride as a source, corresponding to 50%, 75%, 100%, 125% and 150% of the recommended dose. As the pods dried and the grain was collected, the following variables were evaluated: number of pods per plant, pod length, pod diameter, pod weight and productivity. The potassium doses of 130, 109 and 180 kg ha-1 K2O afforded the greatest number of pods (124), pod weight (108.64g) and pod diameter (18 mm), respectively. The dose of 106.20 kg ha-1 K2O, lower than the recommended dose for the lima bean, determined the maximum grain yield, 1,567 kg ha-1.","PeriodicalId":299264,"journal":{"name":"REVISTA AGRO@MBIENTE ON-LINE","volume":"37 4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-02-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121574890","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Seeking to overcome such difficulty, digital images have been used to estimate the fractal geometry of surface cracks in soils with and without vegetation in a semi-arid environment. This study was carried out in a cross-section along the main course of a first-order watershed in the Centro Sul region, Ceará State (Brazil). Two treatments comprised soil with and without vegetation cover. Experimental plots were installed to represent the upper, middle, and lower parts of the watershed studied (vegetated and non-vegetated), with an area of 1 m2 and spaced 2 m apart. The following morphometric characteristics of cracks were monitored and evaluated during 38 days, namely: area, weighted average between crack area and its perimeter, weighted average of the fractal dimension area of the cracks, connectivity between cracks and soil moisture. In the soil with and without vegetation, intensity of cracks in the soil had a significant correlation (p ≤ 0.01) with the perimeter, fractal area and crack connection. The intensity of cracks between covered and uncovered plots showed a significant difference (p ≤ 0.01), only in the lower part of the watershed. The middle stretch had higher sand content and differed statistically from the lower stretch for intensity of cracks in the soil. Vegetation influenced the correlation between cracks intensity and their connection, influencing their morphology in the sandy stretch.","PeriodicalId":299264,"journal":{"name":"REVISTA AGRO@MBIENTE ON-LINE","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130302736","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Eight AFS, three areas of secondary vegetation, and three conventional systems were evaluated. Direct observation was used to evaluate the sustainability indicators, assigning a value from 1 to 10 to each indicator (1 - undesirable; 5 - moderate and 10 - ideal). The mean value of the indicators was determined for each system under evaluation. The areas under conventional systems had the lowest value, of 0.25 for the crop-health indicators and 1.32 for soil quality, which suggests the need for proper management to prevent environmental problems in areas of pasture, cleared land and monocropped black pepper. The highest values of 4.1 for the crop-health indicators and 6.99 for soil quality, were obtained in the areas of secondary vegetation, and values of 3.0 for crop health and 6.1 for soil quality in the areas of AFS-BP, emphasising the role of secondary vegetation and agroforestry systems in recovering the productive potential of agrosystems. It can be concluded that the use of a simple technique (radar charts) together with statistical methods show that secondary vegetation, agroforestry and conventional systems differ; however, secondary vegetation and AFS are more sustainable, as they showed better results for each of the indicators under evaluation compared to the conventional systems.","PeriodicalId":299264,"journal":{"name":"REVISTA AGRO@MBIENTE ON-LINE","volume":"186 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129220606","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Thus, sanitization is a crucial step to ensure the quality of this produce. The objective was to evaluate the effect of treatment with ozone gas dissolved in water on the physicochemical properties and the incidence of pathogens in minimally processed strawberries stored under refrigeration. After minimal processing, “Camino Real” strawberries were submitted to five different treatments: immersion in ozonated water (OW) at three different concentrations (0.2; 0.5; and 1.0 mg L-1) at 10 ºC for 5 min; chlorine sanitization (Sumaveg®) in two steps, at 150 mg L-1 and 5 mg L-1, at 10 ºC for 10 min. The control treatment corresponded to fruits without sanitation. After the treatments, the fruits were stored under refrigeration at 5 ºC and 90% RH and evaluated for 12 days regarding postharvest quality (physical, physicochemical and biochemical), as well as the incidence of diseased fruits (%). The results showed that the sanitization of fruits with ozonized water, regardless of the concentration, favored the quality and health of strawberries during storage compared to fruits subjected to sanitization with chlorinated water and control fruits. Ozonated water treatment is an alternative to traditional sanitization with chlorine, maintaining the physicochemical quality of the minimally processed “Camino Real” strawberries stored under refrigeration.","PeriodicalId":299264,"journal":{"name":"REVISTA AGRO@MBIENTE ON-LINE","volume":"4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121438314","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this sense, a model in line with local environmental reality and based on the sustainable development goals (SDG) proposed by the UN is required. The document addresses the suitability of natural capitals in the Caatinga phytogeographic domain (CPD) for generating products, encompassing primary (solar energy and rainfall) and secondary (soil and vegetation) natural resources. These resources have well-defined scarcity (water, soil, and vegetation) and abundance (solar radiation) characteristics. Water is scarce due to uncertain rainfall and frequent droughts. Due to their fragility, soils, when shallow and/or with a low organic matter content, are susceptible to erosion and salinization. In turn, vegetation is scarce due to low potential for biomass production (50% of the area has a biomass production below 2 Mg ha-1. As for solar energy, there is no uncertainty regarding its occurrence in the CPD. Moreover, the region has the highest solar radiation intensities in Brazil, with daily averages ranging from 4.8 to 6.0 Kwh m-2 within a year. Therefore, a new model must be adopted, in which socioeconomic development is based on the potential of local natural resources. In short, abundant resources should be prioritized over scarce ones.
