The intent of the paper is not to show how to build a `perfect' filter, since this is known. The paper is about understanding why a theoretically high quality filter in practice can still fail in providing the expected performance. It was shown in earlier work that the filter, due to mechanical constraints (size, mounting bracket), had an improper grounding scheme for attenuating high frequency components of common mode currents. A solution for improving the total system is diverting the high frequency components of the common mode current before reaching the filter by applying a CB. In implementation this is achieved by creating a short circuit for high frequency common mode currents, which is the concept of interest in this paper.","PeriodicalId":299239,"journal":{"name":"2016 International Symposium on Electromagnetic Compatibility - EMC EUROPE","volume":"34 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-09-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121303882","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This Directive (and national Laws) gives a clear preference for international (defence equipment) standards: National standards shall not be used in contracts anymore. The objective of the European Commission is to support one European-wide defence equipment market, and national standards are preventing such a European-wide level-playing field. The European Defence STAndards Reference (EDSTAR) system which is being maintained by the European Defence Agency (EDA) is thus referring to the STANAG 4370, which is referring to the AECTP 250 and AECTP 500 series, published by the NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization). A new version of these standards is published in 2014 (AECTP 250) and 2016 (AECTP 500). Some parts of the AECTP, notably the AECTP 507, needed major upgrades before national standards could be replaced by the AECTP. This activity has been performed by the Electromagnetic Environmental Effects (E3) Action Team of NATO, and maintenance of the E3 standards is performed by Expert Group 7, on E3, of EDSTAR. This paper describes the changes in the standards and activities performed by the E3AT and Expert Group 7.","PeriodicalId":299239,"journal":{"name":"2016 International Symposium on Electromagnetic Compatibility - EMC EUROPE","volume":"465 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-09-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116387070","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

More precisely, the estimation of extreme interference levels is researched using a rigorous modeling of Maxwell's equations. In this context, the classical Monte Carlo simulation is not suitable since very expensive simulations have to be performed. Thus, this paper proposes to apply the so-called controlled stratification method, which was recently proposed in the electromagnetic compatibility context [1], [2], in order to estimate extreme interference events in a realistic coupling problem considering uncertain parameters.","PeriodicalId":299239,"journal":{"name":"2016 International Symposium on Electromagnetic Compatibility - EMC EUROPE","volume":"77 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-09-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126715453","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The method requires a pair of successive measurements, an initial one for characterizing the ambient noise and a final one for the EMI measurement in the presence of ambient noise. The method assumes the spectral content of the ambient noise is stable between both measurements. The measured time-domain EMI is decomposed into a finite set of intrinsic mode functions. Some modes contain the ambient noise signals while other modes contain the actual components of the EMI. A brute-force search algorithm determines which mode, or combination of modes, maximize the absolute difference between the magnitude of their spectrum and the ambient noise levels for every frequency bin in the measurement bandwidth. Experimental results show the effectiveness of this method for attenuating several ambient noise signals in the 30 MHz-1 GHz band.","PeriodicalId":299239,"journal":{"name":"2016 International Symposium on Electromagnetic Compatibility - EMC EUROPE","volume":"93 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116892617","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The ENAI system, usually modelled only at the normal operating frequency, is modified in order to include a detailed high frequency description, which is of interest for conducted emission studies. Using this enhanced model it is possible to predict the conducted emissions resulting in a useful tool for Electromagnetic Interference (EMI) filter design. In this paper two different SCR switching modes are considered, Burst and Phase mode respectively. Experimental testing validates the proposed model, showing good agreement between predicted and measured conducted emissions.","PeriodicalId":299239,"journal":{"name":"2016 International Symposium on Electromagnetic Compatibility - EMC EUROPE","volume":"34 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116987724","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The averaged ACS is very important in many EMC research areas such as indoor wireless channel modelling and human safety exposure study. The measurement of averaged ACS in a reverberation chamber can be achieved by measuring the rate of power loss in the time domain, however this technique requires dense frequency sampling for taking the inverse Fourier transform, which is very time consuming. A new scenario which accelerates the measurement speed is presented in this paper. It combines the technique of non-linear curve fitting to the power delay profile, segmented frequency sweeping and continuous mode stirring. The scenario was validated by measuring the averaged ACS of a hollow plastic sphere filled with deionized water in an EMC reverberation chamber. Measurement results showed a good accordance with the simulations and the measurement uncertainty was studied numerically with the Monte Carlo method.","PeriodicalId":299239,"journal":{"name":"2016 International Symposium on Electromagnetic Compatibility - EMC EUROPE","volume":"2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128355222","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
