In order to analyze audible noise, shorten the research period, and reduce experimental costs, firstly, a digital twin model for audible noise of UHV DC transmission lines is proposed. Then, the model’s structure and related principles are explained in detail. Finally, an application, as a research paradigm, uses digital twin to study the source distribution on transmission lines and influencing factors of audible noise. The A-weighted sound level of audible noise on the ground is calculated and compared with the data obtained by the BPA empirical formula. The results show that the position of the sound source tends to have uniform distribution and the intensity tends to have Gaussian distribution, while temperature and relative humidity exert obvious effects on audible noise, illustrating the great value of digital twin technology in the study of audible noise. This paper not only provides a new method for audible noise research, but also provides a reference for the design of UHV DC transmission lines.","PeriodicalId":29831,"journal":{"name":"Digital Twin","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"48325311","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The evolution of increasingly complex systems requires that their information be organized and managed via digital twins.  In addition, the development of Artificial Intelligence (AI) will result in an increasing degree of system complexity. These complex systems will exhibit true emergent behavior as AIs modify system aspects as the result of goal seeking and learning. Methods: Our work, which is mainly concerned with heterogeneous spatial-temporal data, focuses on exploring data utilization methodology in DT. The goal of this research is to summarize the best practices that make the spatial-temporal data analytically tractable in a systematic and quantifiable manner. Some methods are found to handle those data via jointly spatial-temporal analysis in a high-dimensional space effectively. We provide a concise yet comprehensive tutorial on spatial-temporal analysis considering data, theories, algorithms, indicators, and applications. The advantages of our spatial-temporal analysis are discussed, including model-free mode, solid theoretical foundation, and robustness against ubiquitous uncertainty and partial data error. Finally, we take the condition-based maintenance of a real digital substation in China as an example to verify our proposed spatial-temporal analysis mode. Results: Our proposed spatial-temporal data analysis mode successfully turned raw chromatographic data, which are valueless in low-dimensional space, into an informative high-dimensional indicator. The designed high-dimensional indicator could capture the ’insulation’ correlation among the sampling data over a long time span. Hence it is robust against external noise, and may support decision-making. This analysis is also adaptive to other daily spatial-temporal data in the same form, for example in a digital substation such as Cai Lun. Conclusions: This exploration and summary of spatial-temporal data analysis may benefit the fields of both engineering and data science.","PeriodicalId":29831,"journal":{"name":"Digital Twin","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-04-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"47482667","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is because of this that the application of image recognition technology in digital twinning technology becomes a reality. However, the key technology of digital twin, the virtual-actual mutual control technology, is not mature enough, and the image recognition technology applied in digital twin technology also has the problem of coordinate system transformation, which becomes an important link of image recognition technology in digital twin. Methods: Based on the above two problems, we take the tangram splicing project as an example to realize a virtual-actual mutual control method, so that the digital twinning technology can be well presented. Furthermore, we implement an image recognition applied to the conversion of digital twinning technology, so that digital twinning technology and image recognition have a seamless connection, allowing the application range of digital twinning technology to be further expanded. Results: In this paper, image recognition technology is successfully applied to digital twin technology by adopting the conversion between different coordinate systems and the real and virtual real time control, which makes the applicability of digital twin technology in high-tech fields such as smart factories and smart manufacturing to a higher level. Conclusions: Finally, through the tangram splicing project, the motion trajectories of the robotic arm and the tangram are consistent with the virtual robotic arm and the tangram in the computer. It is proved that our method can well combine digital twinning technology and image recognition technology.","PeriodicalId":29831,"journal":{"name":"Digital Twin","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-04-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"42758182","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, due to the lack of a unified model for IoT devices, data is often skipped over IoT platforms and transmitted to applications directly. This leads to the fact that each manufacturer needs to produce its devices and develop its customized software, which hugely increases the development cycle. On the other hand, it is difficult to convey information between different systems, limiting cross- system control. Moreover, digital twin relies on large amounts of heterogeneous data, and it is impracticable to provide enough data without a unified model for device description. Methods: First, we illustrate the motivation, design goals, and design principles for creating the Internet-of-Things Object Model (IoT-OM). Then we propose a unified description to define IoT devices. The proposed concept has been accepted by several companies, and we analyse one platform that adopts the model. To demonstrate the effectiveness of the model, we introduce two projects based on the platform. One project is an intelligent fire protection system, and another project is an intelligent air quality monitoring system. Results: We measured the time taken by five companies when developing IoT devices and their applications, including the development cycle duration without utilizing the proposed model and the duration using the model at China Mobile’s OneNET platform. The results prove that the proposed model can significantly shorten the development cycle. Conclusions: This paper proposes a model for IoT devices, which helps to unify heterogeneous data among different manufacturers and helps to shorten the development cycles for developers.","PeriodicalId":29831,"journal":{"name":"Digital Twin","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-04-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"41984568","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It can be described as the pairing of the digital and the physical, interconnected for data sharing. DT is a key enabler for Industry 4.0, especially on the digitalization and visualization processes. Even though the idea of DT has been defined thoroughly throughout the recent years, there are still many different interpretations which are the result of different viewpoints of the involved professionals. The digitalization process requires huge amounts of data, which is generated, collected, handled and processed by various sources as well as digital twins themselves, thus offering new challenges that need to be addressed. In this paper, we attempt to i) assess the current state of digital twins, ii) describe the terms digital model and digital shadow as they are often misused as synonyms and iii) review the concepts of Internet of Things (IoT) and Industry 4.0 and discuss how these are connected. Moreover, some applications of DTs and their enabling technologies will be presented.","PeriodicalId":29831,"journal":{"name":"Digital Twin","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-03-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"42507673","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Indeed, DES provides perhaps the most powerful and intuitive method for analyzing, evaluating, and improving complex healthcare systems. This paper highlights the process of developing a Digital Twin (DT) framework based on online DES to run the DES model in parallel with the real world in real-time. Methods: This paper suggests a new methodology that uses DES connected to the Internet of Things (IoT) devices to build a DT platform of patient pathways in a hospital for near real-time monitoring and predictive simulation. An experimental platform that mimics the behavior of a hospital has been used to validate this methodology. Results: The application of the proposed methodology allowed us to test the monitoring functionality in the DT. Therefore, we noticed that the DT behaves exactly as the emulator does in near real-time, we also tested the prediction functionality and we noticed that the DT provides us with a proactive overview for the near future of the patient pathways. The predictive functionality of this DT must be improved depending on the various reasons mentioned in this article. Conclusions: This paper presents a new methodology called HospiT'Win that uses DES and IoT devices to develop a DT of patient pathways in hospitals. This DT consists of two real-time models, a DT for Monitoring (DTM) and a DT for Predicting (DTP). An experimental platform with an emulator of a real hospital was used to validate this methodology before connecting to the real hospital. In the DTP, \"dynamic\" empirical distributions were used to perform a predictive simulation for the near future. In future research, some additional features and machine learning algorithms will be used to improve the proposed DT models.","PeriodicalId":29831,"journal":{"name":"Digital Twin","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-01-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"48311467","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To study the status of the application of digital twins in the combination with AI, this paper classifies the applications and prospects of AI in digital twins by studying the research results of the current published literature. We discuss the application status of digital twins in the four areas of aerospace, intelligent manufacturing in production workshops, unmanned vehicles, and smart city transportation, and we review the current challenges and  topics that need to be looked forward to in the future. It was found that the integration of digital twins and AI has significant effects in aerospace flight detection simulation, failure warning, aircraft assembly, and even unmanned flight. In the virtual simulation test of automobile autonomous driving, it can save 80% of the time and cost, and the same road conditions reduce the parameter scale of the actual vehicle dynamics model and greatly improve the test accuracy. In the intelligent manufacturing of production workshops, the establishment of a virtual workplace environment can provide timely fault warning, extend the service life of the equipment, and ensure the overall workshop operational safety. In smart city traffic, the real road environment is simulated, and traffic accidents are restored, so that the traffic situation is clear and efficient, and urban traffic management can be carried out quickly and accurately. Finally, we looked forward to the future of digital twins and AI, hoping to provide a reference for future research in related fields.","PeriodicalId":29831,"journal":{"name":"Digital Twin","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-12-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"47095682","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

As a key part of the shop-floor, humans' high autonomy and uncertainty leads to the difficulty in digital twin modeling of human behavior. Therefore, the modeling system for cross-scale human behavior in digital twin shop-floors was developed, powered by the data fusion of macro-behavior and micro-behavior virtual models. Shop-floor human macro-behavior mainly refers to the role of the human and their real-time position. Shop-floor micro-behavior mainly refers to real-time human limb posture and production behavior at their workstation. In this study, we reviewed and summarized a set of theoretical systems for cross-scale human behavior modeling in digital twin shop-floors. Based on this theoretical system, we then reviewed modeling theory and technology from macro-behavior and micro-behavior aspects to analyze the research status of shop-floor human behavior modeling. Lastly, we discuss and offer opinion on the application of cross-scale human behavior modeling in digital twin shop-floors. Cross-scale human behavior modeling is the key for realizing closed-loop interactive drive of human behavior in digital twin shop-floors.","PeriodicalId":29831,"journal":{"name":"Digital Twin","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-12-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"48399094","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
