Methods: We present a fault self-recovery method for fifth-generation core (5GC) networks. Data models are built according to the data governance approach to include the equipment, links and services of the physical network in the digital twin. Visual topology technology is used to extract knowledge-as-a-service (KaaS) capabilities such as call quality tests, fault-propagation chain reasoning and disaster recovery analysis. Results: The proposed method realises 5GC closed-loop self-recovery through four processes: perception, analysis, decision-making and execution. In tests, it achieved 5GC network fault detection in 1 min, delimitation in 20 min, and recovery in 5 min. Conclusions: Through the network digital twin technology, based on the model and state data, the twinning capabilities such as simulation and event topology can be used to realize the network anomaly perception, fault rapid confinement and service survival decision, thus effectively improving the fault processing efficiency and reducing the fault impact.","PeriodicalId":29831,"journal":{"name":"Digital Twin","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"43481791","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Providing more flexibility, availability, and dynamicity in services and network function enablement face many challenges in the 6G network due to the system complexity. To fulfill the requirement of the new generation of a digital and intelligent network, the 6G architecture with digital twin as a new enabler technology, is expected to evolve in the network autonomy and generative intelligence properties, which could optimize and adapt the network and services themselves to a variety of scenarios and deployments. Methods: To achieve 6G network autonomy and generative intelligence, we propose an architecture based on digital twin technology. This architecture integrates the digital twin network with the minimalist network and supports single-domain autonomous and cross-domain collaboration via centralized-distributed digital twin deployment, and defines the interactions between the digital twin and the service layer as well as the physical network. Results: Based on the analysis of the architecture, we put forward the following design principles for the 6G digital twin network architecture: decoupling, interactions, endogenous AI, distribution, heterogeneity, autonomous, and closed-loop. In addition, we get the key technologies achieving collaboration efficiently between the network autonomy domain and generative intelligence domain in the distributed digital twin system. Important application directions of the 6G digital twin network architecture are also analyzed. However, as the complex system equipment with high-safety requirements and high costs, there are lots of limitations of traditional time-based maintenance strategies for NPE. For example, the maintenance service process is invisible, the condition monitoring is mainly based on manual inspection, and the maintenance decision-making mainly depends on personal experience passively. Digital twins (DT) are an effective way to break the “information isolated island” in the whole life cycle, which can give full play to the value of data to realize the visualization of operation process of NPE. Nevertheless, nowadays, the application of DT in the field of nuclear industry is at the exploration stage, and there is lacking systematic and practical research. Thus, a novel DT-driven intelligent maintenance decision-making system involving three key-enabling technologies is proposed in this paper. Firstly, the DT-driven maintenance service mode is introduced, and its corresponding system framework is built. Then, the key enabling technologies such as DT modeling, condition monitoring and dynamic pre-alarm, and systematic intelligent maintenance decision-making and verification are expounded in detail. Finally, the cooling water pump is regarded as the case to verify the proposed method. The DT prototype system is developed and verified in the novel system, which demonstrates the novel system and the three key-enabling technologies are feasible and practical.","PeriodicalId":29831,"journal":{"name":"Digital Twin","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"44388279","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The operation system of agricultural machinery equipment involves machine-human-environment-society interactions. Limited by the production mode, operation mode, etc., the design and development, manufacturing, operation and maintenance control, recycling and other links of agricultural machinery equipment are still independent of each other. The massive information in the agricultural production process has not been fully utilized, so there are some outstanding problems such as low operating performance, low production efficiency, and poor integration of agricultural machinery and agronomy. Methods: Focusing on the agricultural production process, this paper proposes the construction method for a high-horsepower tractor digital twin, and expounds on its operation mechanism. Taking high-horsepower tractor ploughing operation as an example, by deploying tractors, central servers, and an Internet of Things (IoT) platform, we developed a digital twin service platform for the agricultural production system of intelligent agricultural machinery equipment and built a tractor digital twin to verify the effectiveness of the proposed method. Results: The accuracy rate of the tractor ploughing quality prediction service based on this platform is 96.65%. Under open-loop control, the number of excellent, good, medium and poor sets of the tractor ploughing quality are 153, 955, 1470, and 1422, respectively. After adopting closed-loop control, the number of excellent and good sets increased by 378, and 821, respectively, and the number of medium and poor groups decreases by 119 and 1080, respectively. Through this platform, the operation quality can be effectively and accurately predicted and improved, which verifies the effectiveness of the proposed construction method of high-horsepower tractor digital twin. Conclusions: This research provides a method framework for the construction of the digital twin of tractor operation and maintenance control processes, and provides strong support for the vigorous development of intelligent agriculture.","PeriodicalId":29831,"journal":{"name":"Digital Twin","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"47367043","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Decision-making, forecasting and even operational optimization of grids and assets are just some of the solutions that AI algorithms can provide to operators, utilities and vendors. Nevertheless, barriers such as access to quality datasets, interpretability, repeatability, and availability of computational resources currently limit the extent of practical AI implementations. At the same time, Digital Twins (DTs) are foreseen as platforms that can overcome these barriers, and also provide a new environment for the development of enhanced and more intelligent applications. In this manuscript, we review the published literature to determine the existing capabilities and implementation challenges of AI algorithms in power systems, and classify AI-based applications based on their time scale to reveal their temporal sensitivity. By combining AI and DT, we outline multiple prospective use cases for AI-enhanced power grid and power asset DTs. Our review also identifies that the combination of AI-based solutions and DTs leverages new applications with the potential to fundamentally change multiple aspects of the power industry.","PeriodicalId":29831,"journal":{"name":"Digital Twin","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-08-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"49135996","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, there is no consistent set of definitions or concept system for the digital twin domain yet. Methods: This paper summarizes the methodology of developing a concept system with integrating ISO standards guidelines and system thinking methods, analyzes the polysemy phenomenon of the term \"digital twin\", and identifies the necessity to differentiate digital twin entity and digital twin system from the general term “digital twin”. Results: After analyzing nineteen definitions of digital twin (entity) and summarizing ten superordinate concepts from these definitions, this paper proposes that a digital twin entity is a kind of digital asset rather than digital representation. Based on the new superordinate concept and definition of digital twin entity, a systematic digital twin concept system is developed which consists of four parts: top-level ontology and taxonomy of entity, digital twin entity related concepts, digital twin system related concepts, and taxonomy framework related concepts. Conclusions: This work demonstrates the power and effectiveness of the combination of ISO terminology work standards, system thinking methods, and information modeling tools, lays a solid foundation for future concept systems development of other domains, and will provide useful input to the efforts of digital twin standardization.","PeriodicalId":29831,"journal":{"name":"Digital Twin","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-08-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"47384309","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
