Using films as an aid is the best teaching method available to support students and also to enable them to study in a purposeful manner with fun and entertainment. Films are one of the infrequently used multimedia technologies. In this light this study focuses on the value of understanding the meaning behind the individual’s utterances, the complexity of speech in a language, and the knowledge of teaching and learning conversational implicature through movies. This research investigates the perception of implicature via a questionnaire to EFL learners in Saudi Arabia, where, as in East Asian countries, English is acquired as a foreign language. There were 441 respondents. Also this descriptive qualitative study lists the floutings of Paul Grice’s Cooperative Principle (1975) and the implicature in Plane Movie. In real life in queer situations if asked a personal question, to which they are reluctant to reply, 66.5% of the respondents chose to opt for flouting Maxim of Relevance, whereas 32.4% opted for flouting to the quality maxim Their responses to the question of whether language learning can be done through regular classroom studies ormovies, or both, came out in favor of both. In contrast to the 22.1% who said they could only acquire the language through studies and the 23.2% who said they could only learn it from movies, 54.7% of respondents said they could learn the language in both situations. The study suggests that in order to teach pragmatic concepts like conversational implicature, English curriculum should also contain visual aids like movies, and language teachers should use them while assigning homework or assignments. This study’s findings has significant repercussions that might be advantageous to EFL/ESL students, teachers, and curriculum designers.","PeriodicalId":29810,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Social Sciences and Management Studies","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135341223","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To determine the academic writing skills of the participants of the study before the intervention, pre-writing that requires students to compose a narrative essay on a specific topic has been administered. The students identified with difficulties were subjected for the intervention. The researchers held post-writing activities that determined the effectiveness of the game-based strategy in their academic writing performance in English. With a Purposive sampling method as the sampling technique to identify the ideal participants of the data gathering procedure, the researchers found several results after the implementation of the proposed intervention, specifically the significant difference between the scores of the respondents in the pre-writing and post-writing using the five-week intervention plan for Grade 8 students. Further analysis pondered that there was a significant difference in the academic performance between the pre-test and post-test scores of the Grade 8 students in terms of the game-based strategy in improving the academic writing skills of those students. Through the implications, the recommendations: conduct similar studies for Grade to Grade 10, implement this similar intervention to all quarters/grading periods and use differentiated instructional materials to make the game livelier and to catch the attention of the students.","PeriodicalId":29810,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Social Sciences and Management Studies","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135268193","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It encompasses measures designed to augment the utilization of official financial offerings within the economic framework. This research employed an ex-post facto study design to evaluate data on elements like banking penetration, usage of financial services, and access to financial services, concerning GDP growth. Relationships and interactions among these factors were scrutinized using the Autoregressive Distributed Lag Model (ARDL), which displayed strong explanatory capabilities and statistical validity. The research revealed that, without inputs from access to financial services, the usage of financial services, and banking penetration, the self-sustaining gross domestic product (GDP) is negative and statistically noteworthy. Over the short term, a negative link is observed between GDP and access to financial services (AFS); however, in the long term, AFS manifests a positive correlation with real GDP (RGDP). The usage of financial services (UFS) demonstrates a favorable relationship with GDP, accentuating the necessity of bolstering financial literacy and inspiring individuals and enterprises to effectively make use of financial services. The existing phase of banking penetration (BP) exerts a negligible impact on economic growth, but it is vital for policymakers to persistently observe and evaluate its long-term influence. Upholding a facilitative regulatory setting and stimulating rivalry within the banking sector are essential for enduring economic development. The regression analysis furnishes policy suggestions aimed at amplifying access to finance, boosting financial literacy, and confronting issues related to banking penetration. By tackling constraints that limit access to finance, upgrading infrastructure, and diminishing entry obstacles, sustainable economic growth can be achieved. Advocating for financial literacy and encouraging the adoption of financial services have the potential to elevate economic activities and spur GDP growth. Even though the current influence of banking penetration is not significant, it remains crucial for policymakers to keep track of and analyze its future implications.","PeriodicalId":29810,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Social Sciences and Management Studies","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135616848","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A total of 273 female entrepreneurs were surveyed using a structured questionnaire. The data collected were analysed using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS). The study found that lack of access to funding sources, legal and regulatory barriers, societal and cultural biases, lack of access to relevant information and technology and limited access to professional networks and mentors were the major environmental challenges faced by women in business start-ups. The study further revealed that women possess the confidence to take risks and pursue opportunities, handle stress and uncertainty, possess the ability to adapt to changing circumstances, communicate and negotiate with stakeholders, and possess the persistence and resilience necessary to overcome challenges in their business start-ups. The study recommends that the government, private organizations, and other stakeholders should work together to address the environmental challenges faced by women in business start-ups in North Western Nigeria by providing access to funding sources, mentorship, networking opportunities, and creating an enabling business environment.","PeriodicalId":29810,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Social Sciences and Management Studies","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"136060454","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Campus organizations are some of the avenues for students to hone their leadership skills. However, some students are disengaging in leadership roles in campus organizations. Thus, this study sought to describe the factors behind students’ disengagement in leadership roles in campus organizations using a qualitative-descriptive research approach. The duly-validated written interview questionnaire was administered among six (6) student leaders who were selected through purposeful sampling. Three (3) significant themes such as personal-related, interpersonal-related, and structural-related factors were revealed. From these data, five (5) meaningful categories emerged. As personal-related factors, students disengage in leadership roles in campus organizations as it is a (1) hindrance to their academics and it (2) compromises their health. Furthermore, interpersonal-related factors include having (3) divided time and (4) being in the public eye. Finally, the (5) authority factor is the structural-related factor. Thus, improving the working conditions of student leaders may eliminate the negative experiences that will force them to stop serving their fellow students.","PeriodicalId":29810,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Social Sciences and Management Studies","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-08-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"84690293","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Responsibility accounting was measured using Operating Expenses (OE), Net Income (NI), Interest Expense (IE) and Return on Investment (ROI) while corporate sustainability growth was measured using corporate sustainability growth rate (CSGR). Ex post facto design was adopted and data for this study was collected from the annual accounts and reports of all listed deposit money banks on the Nigerian Exchange Group (NGX) for the period ended; 2016-2022. The analysis was carried out using panel least squares regression model and the results of the study show a significant and positive association between operating expenses, net income, interest expense, return on investment and sustainability growth of banks in Nigeria at 1% to 5% level of significance. The study therefore comes to the conclusion that responsibility accounting ensures sustainability growth in the banking sector. The study recommends that managers should increase their asset base, as it has been observed that banks with large asset base control their operating and interest expense which significantly ensures banks sustainability. In addition, the managers of listed deposit money banks should use return on investment and net income as a metric to evaluate and assess the sustainability of their stewardship.","PeriodicalId":29810,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Social Sciences and Management Studies","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-08-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"88372770","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To collect data and information for this study, the researchers used both a quantitative and qualitative technique. This qualitative study chose to use a questionnaire that was delivered to the target audience of Qassim university students. The data was then descriptively reviewed, and the majority of those engaged in this survey claimed that they preferred using an iPad in the classroom since it was more convenient and easier to use if a student wants to look for certain information. Nonetheless, a few respondents disagreed and wanted to use the textbook and learn in the usual manner. Some educators, on the other hand, believe it is an elephant in the room. The research looked at impact of performance evaluation system such as Established Performance Standards (EPS), Communicating Performance Expectation (CPE), Measuring Actual Performance of Employee Based on Established Standards (MAPEBES), Discussion on Evaluation Result and Giving Feedback, (DERGF) and Decision Making(DM) on Employee Performance of LGA in Nigeria. The study used  survey research design to collect data from targeted respondents. A total sample size of 195 was determined using Yaro Yamane's formula. The data was analyzed using simple percentages, descriptive statistics and correlation matrix was used to determine relationship that exists between the independent and dependent variables. The hypotheses were tested using multiple regression analysis through SPSS 23. The study discovers that EPS, CPE, MAPEBES, DERGF and DM has significant and positive effect on employee performance in LGA in Nigeria. The study recommended that LGA in  Nigeria should uphold and magnify their established standards so as to bring about better employee performance. LG top managers should be able to relate how well their staff is doing on the task assign to them as this would enable them to build on their areas of weakness. Mechanism should be put in place to evaluate if actually the output of LG staff is in line with established standard and to reward accordingly. Also, the outcome of how well LG staff performed should be related to them so as to bridge noticeable gap in performance. Finally, making of decisions in this level of government should be encompassing and accommodative in order not to slow down performance of the employees.","PeriodicalId":29810,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Social Sciences and Management Studies","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"78240610","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
