Among those technologies, the representative technology is PenTile L6W technology which uses RGBW pixel and sub-pixel rendering algorithm. In this paper, the PenTile L6W and the other technologies are introduced. To achieve this power saving, display pixel structure is re-designed, and power saving control technology and algorithm are being developed. But, to achieve high power saving performance, there could be some image quality issue. Therefore, image quality improvement technology is being combined with these power saving technologies. In the near future, better solutions for power saving technology are expected to show up.","PeriodicalId":297420,"journal":{"name":"5th IEEE International Conference on Digital Ecosystems and Technologies (IEEE DEST 2011)","volume":"299 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124839273","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We apply the concept of Place in a multi-agent framework for supporting informal city-wide mobile learning activities. By taking input from the theoretical framework for analysing collaborative learning activities, we adopt the structure and organization of multi-gent framework. The functionality and components of the system are defined in light of the theoretical work. This work bridges the gap between theory and it's application in technology for mobile learning in our project.","PeriodicalId":297420,"journal":{"name":"5th IEEE International Conference on Digital Ecosystems and Technologies (IEEE DEST 2011)","volume":"16 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116244328","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The dynamic interaction and collaboration between Digital Ecosystem entities poise several main challenges in protecting the resources and information. First, a strong mechanism is needed to ensure only the authentic entities that are able to access the resources. Second, this mechanism must also maintain the confidentiality and integrity of resources over the untrusted network. Unfortunately, the existing mechanisms which focus on providing a centralized protection facade several issues ranging from single point failure to huge administrative burden. Therefore, we present a distributed mechanism to address these challenges. The inclusivity of community based trust approach in our mechanism further promotes its applicability to the Digital Ecosystem environment, on which it is heavily driven by the interacting entities. Public Key Infrastructure is employed to provide a strong protection during its access workflow.","PeriodicalId":297420,"journal":{"name":"5th IEEE International Conference on Digital Ecosystems and Technologies (IEEE DEST 2011)","volume":"12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122202964","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

One of the problems is that making changes to one concept of ontology might affect other concepts, thereby leading to inconsistencies. Moreover, this creates a lot of work for ontology engineers who have to update the ontology manually. The process of changing the ontology requires work from the domain experts. No cost effective communication method exists that enables discussion and agreement on these changes. In this paper, we propose to use a lightweight Social Networking approach in order to enhance the communication between different participants. This will produce a more efficient and effective method of communication and decision-making.","PeriodicalId":297420,"journal":{"name":"5th IEEE International Conference on Digital Ecosystems and Technologies (IEEE DEST 2011)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130827028","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However BCI technology is far from attaining this goal. A significant challenge the EEG-based system has is the interference of artifacts in the EEG generated by eye and head movement. This paper presents the use of machine learning techniques to classify artifacts in the EEG. Successful artifact classification was then be applied to improve existing artifact removal techniques. The experiment used a state-of-the-art EEG system to gather the classifier input. An eye tracker and motion sensor were also used to measure and provide the ground truth for the classification experiments. The data from these devices were captured using custom built software developed for this research. The classifiers tested showed potential to classify artifacts in the EEG when trained on a per-person basis. This research paves the way for further work to be carried out to explore subject-independent artifact classification.","PeriodicalId":297420,"journal":{"name":"5th IEEE International Conference on Digital Ecosystems and Technologies (IEEE DEST 2011)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129746932","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Aids for the visually impaired are lightweight electronic devices that are either incorporated into a long cane, hand-held or worn by the client, warning of hazards ahead. Most aids use vibrating buttons or sound alerts to warn of upcoming obstacles, a method which is only capable of conveying very crude information regarding direction and proximity to the nearest object. Some of the more sophisticated devices use a complex audio interface in order to deliver more detailed information, but this often compromises the user's hearing, a critical impairment for a blind user. The author has produced an original design and working prototype solution which is a major first step in addressing some of these faults found in current production models for the blind.","PeriodicalId":297420,"journal":{"name":"5th IEEE International Conference on Digital Ecosystems and Technologies (IEEE DEST 2011)","volume":"2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129016785","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A large number of spatially located control elements organize distributed control systems. These systems require dynamic interactions of their control elements during their runtime and life-cycle to tolerate failures, balance their computational load, scale and meet application requirements. This paper addresses the problem of dynamic composition and reconfiguration of these dynamic interactions in Internet-scale control systems. Rather than introducing a new middleware or mechanism with a limited applicability and integration in such systems, this paper introduces the ‘binding control model’ designed as a control system for higher abstraction, integration and applicability in distributed control systems. The binding control model, its possible granularity levels and its applicability are illustrated in this paper.","PeriodicalId":297420,"journal":{"name":"5th IEEE International Conference on Digital Ecosystems and Technologies (IEEE DEST 2011)","volume":"8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127878154","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Recently, there has been much interest in automatically face recognition and tracking in many areas such as intelligent robotics, military, smart device applications and automatic surveillance system. Though there have been many demands about real-time face verification and tracking at the same time, however it is insufficient to research algorithm which accomplish tracking and verification simultaneously. Our goal is to solve these two problems at the same time to save computation time and elevate the performance. This algorithm is consisted of segmental feature and particle filter. It is theoretically based on discriminative common vector method and Fisher's LDA. The algorithm trains segmented and shift face image to obtain new segmental features, then we take orthogonal projection matrix using Gram-Schmidt orthogonal-ization. To solve tracking problem, particle filter algorithm is used.","PeriodicalId":297420,"journal":{"name":"5th IEEE International Conference on Digital Ecosystems and Technologies (IEEE DEST 2011)","volume":"35 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121732403","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
