Abstract

Recent trend of bigger and high resolution mobile display for smart-phone leads the needs of high performance of power saving technologies. Among those technologies, the representative technology is PenTile L6W technology which uses RGBW pixel and sub-pixel rendering algorithm. In this paper, the PenTile L6W and the other technologies are introduced. To achieve this power saving, display pixel structure is re-designed, and power saving control technology and algorithm are being developed. But, to achieve high power saving performance, there could be some image quality issue. Therefore, image quality improvement technology is being combined with these power saving technologies. In the near future, better solutions for power saving technology are expected to show up.
