The sensor has been developed by STORM-T Laboratory of the University of São Paulo as part of a research and development program of the Companhia Energética do Ceará (COELCE). The LWS built can detect intra-cloud (IC) and cloud to ground (CG) lightning that is used to predict the probability of CG occurrence. The system is a slow-antenna integrated with a microcontroller and a single board computer that proportionate a compact design and low cost. Furthermore, the firmware can be update to include more detecting features anytime.","PeriodicalId":296478,"journal":{"name":"2015 International Symposium on Lightning Protection (XIII SIPDA)","volume":"129 10","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"120946538","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A field test with 4 grounding meshes with different geometric configurations was implemented and used in order to perform a great number of measurement tests. Based on all the data and the processing of the measurement results, a mathematical model called the Extended Tagg Method was developed in order to establish the correct distance to carry out the measurement of earth resistance at short distances. A discussion on the proposed method, as well as its analysis of accuracy and susceptibility in view of external interference is performed, as well as its validation in real substations.","PeriodicalId":296478,"journal":{"name":"2015 International Symposium on Lightning Protection (XIII SIPDA)","volume":"56 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129825910","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Based on the measurement data obtained at the Morro do Cachimbo/MG Station, it was possible to synthesize first stroke current waveforms with single- an double-peak in a realistic way. In addition, the investigation involves an analysis with a model implemented in ATP-Models to reproduce the first stroke current recommended by CIGRÉ methodology. The breakdown process was represented through a Leader Progression Model able to represent accurately the physical process established along the perimeter of the insulator strings, during a backflashover event. The results allowed an investigation of the waveforms and amplitudes of the resulting overvoltages across the insulators. The computational modeling developed permits to identify the amplitude of the overvoltage that produces the backflashover and the instant of time that the breakdown occurs.","PeriodicalId":296478,"journal":{"name":"2015 International Symposium on Lightning Protection (XIII SIPDA)","volume":"203 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125736216","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The model is based on the thin wire formalism of Holland and permits to consider different types of structures: bare wires, single core insulated cables, and single core coaxial cables. The industrial site is composed by a building, a grounding grid, and a buried single core coaxial cable leaving the building. An equivalent electronic equipment is connected to the extremities of the core. A lightning strikes the building, and the currents along the cable (shield and core), as well as the voltage at the extremes are examined. The results were compared with a MoM numerical tool, with good agreement and a significant better performance in terms of computational resources.","PeriodicalId":296478,"journal":{"name":"2015 International Symposium on Lightning Protection (XIII SIPDA)","volume":"30 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126932055","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
