At the price of less global control, there is a trend in recent years towards giving nodes more autonomy and devising localized relocation algorithms to address challenges of network topology control in harsh and hostile environments in the absence of centralized control. Inspired by laws of nature, a large variety of distributed node relocation algorithms have been designed to alleviate undesirable oscillations caused by local interactions and uncertainties among autonomous nodes as they reach their desired formations. Force-based distributed relocation algorithms governed by virtual push-pull forces among autonomous nodes are among such aforesaid algorithms. Adapting fuzzy logic model in exerting proper amount of forces to reduce node movement oscillation seems to be promising as its conforms well with uncertainties and interactions of autonomous nodes. However, parameters of fuzzy logic relocation model should be tuned so to enable nodes to exert proper amount of forces among their in-range neighbours. In this paper, by using particle swarm optimization, parameters of fuzzy relocation model are obtained based on the desired combinations of performance metrics within nodes' range in each movement iteration. The result shows that our model either outperforms or matches DSSA movement model.","PeriodicalId":294442,"journal":{"name":"2013, 7th International Conference on Signal Processing and Communication Systems (ICSPCS)","volume":"137 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115028645","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This relation is known as the Beam Deviation Factor (BDF). Previously, an equation for the BDF was derived from an aperture phase distribution of a parabolic reflector antenna for feed displacements in the perpendicular plane to the antenna axis. Therefore, the equation gave information for one dimensional feed displacement. In this paper, ray tracings are performed in focal region of a parabolic reflector antenna for incident plane waves. The best feed positions are shown by caustics, which are the concentrated points of all rays. A set of caustic points form a line called locus of caustics. Based on the locus of caustics, the best feed positions are numerically clarified in two dimensional displacements.","PeriodicalId":294442,"journal":{"name":"2013, 7th International Conference on Signal Processing and Communication Systems (ICSPCS)","volume":"10 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128356001","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper proposes a novel error correction scheme for physical layer XOR network coding. The proposed scheme not only improves transmission performance but also to reduce complexity at the relay. The proposed scheme applies a unitary precoding to offset phase rotation in the channel by exploiting the reciprocity between channels in the uplink and the downlink in systems with time division duplex (TDD). Moreover, a novel complexity reduced maximum likelihood detection technique is applied in the proposed scheme. It is evaluated by computer simulation that the proposed scheme attains a gain of 8dB at BER=10-5 compared with AF network coding in a system with the use of OFDM.","PeriodicalId":294442,"journal":{"name":"2013, 7th International Conference on Signal Processing and Communication Systems (ICSPCS)","volume":"97 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124676630","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The design aims at maximizing the minimum information rate among user pairs subject to various practical power constraints at the users and relays. Since the nonconvex structure of the problem is highly complicated, the existing approaches to relax the design problem into a convex program do not appear to be applicable. To solve this challenging nonconvex optimization problem, we introduce auxiliary variables and cast the design problem into a d.c.(difference of convex functions) program. Then, we develop an efficient iterative algorithm of sequential convex optimization to obtain the optimized solutions. Extensive simulation results demonstrate that our proposed joint design outperforms the only relay beamforming design.","PeriodicalId":294442,"journal":{"name":"2013, 7th International Conference on Signal Processing and Communication Systems (ICSPCS)","volume":"35 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116148904","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

One of the issues when supporting such delay sensitive M2M applications over a wide area cellular standard such as LTE is that the base station scheduling entity cannot precisely ascertain when pending uplink packets at devices were generated. This makes scheduling according to deadlines based upon packet delay budgets very challenging and ultimately involves some degree of error. In this paper, we propose a new delay sensitive scheduler that increases the probability of satisfying the delay budget of packets by exploiting Packet Age (PA) data explicitly reported by devices. The PA is a new MAC Control Element that represents the age of the oldest pending packet in the device buffers and is sent by devices in parallel with the existing Buffer Status Report (BSR) that contains volume and priority data. The overhead associated with the PA MAC control element is extremely small (2 bytes). We demonstrate the performance of the new technique with an OPNET simulation of an LTE TDD system serving event driven delay sensitive M2M traffic, comparing the results when PA reporting is enabled versus disabled for essentially the same uplink scheduling algorithm.","PeriodicalId":294442,"journal":{"name":"2013, 7th International Conference on Signal Processing and Communication Systems (ICSPCS)","volume":"74 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129970225","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We consider a specific scenario in order to propose an efficient method for estimating the channel frequency response and CFO associated to each transmitter. We also propose a set of receiver structures which are able to compensate the variations of the equivalent channel. The performance results show that we can have excellent performance, even when the considered transmissions have substantially different CFOs.","PeriodicalId":294442,"journal":{"name":"2013, 7th International Conference on Signal Processing and Communication Systems (ICSPCS)","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123913204","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, these two aspects are contradicting and quite impossible to solve the placement problem with a single optimal decision. Thus, a Multi-objective Optimization (MOO) approach is needed to facilitate this. This paper studies the performance of a WSN sensor node placement problem solved with a new biologically inspired optimization technique that imitates the behavior of territorial predators in marking their territories with their odours known as Territorial Predator Scent Marking Algorithm (TPSMA). The simulation study is done for a single objective and multi-objective approaches. The MOO approach of TPSMA (MOTPSMA) deployed in this paper uses the minimum energy consumption and maximum coverage as the objective functions while the single objective approach TPSMA only considers maximum coverage. The performance of both approaches is then compared in terms of coverage ratio and total energy consumption. Simulation results show that the WSN deployed with the MOTPSMA is able to reduce the energy consumption although the coverage ratio is slightly lower than single approach TPSMA which only focuses on maximizing the coverage.","PeriodicalId":294442,"journal":{"name":"2013, 7th International Conference on Signal Processing and Communication Systems (ICSPCS)","volume":"55 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122853055","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Under practical transmission power constraints, we aim at maximizing the sum-information-rate. To date, most developments could not directly address this problem. Instead, intermediate problems of simplification have been considered by means of alternating optimization, which fails to jointly optimize all the concerned variables. In this paper, we directly solve this problem by exploring its hidden d.c. (difference of convex functions) structure. The recast problem can be iteratively solved by d.c. iterations (DCIs), which guarantees the convergence to at least a local optimum. Numerical simulation results show that the proposed solutions offer improved performance.","PeriodicalId":294442,"journal":{"name":"2013, 7th International Conference on Signal Processing and Communication Systems (ICSPCS)","volume":"62 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134497846","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the first phase, the relay-to-destination channel is estimated. In the second phase, the destination estimate the far-end channel, i.e., the source-to-relay link, based on the source pilots, relay precoder, and the estimated channel in the first phase. This work aims to conduct a robust design by deriving the optimum source pilots and relay precoder according to the minimum mean-squared error (MMSE) criterion. Although the optimization problem can be formulated mathematically; however, the problem is not convex and difficult to be solved. Thus, we replace the objective function with its lower bound, and simplify the matrix optimization problem as a scalar-convex optimization. We show that the optimum solution of the optimization with the lower bound equals to that of the original problem when the channel correlation matrices satisfy certain structures. Simulations show that our proposed method outperforms existing non-robust methods.","PeriodicalId":294442,"journal":{"name":"2013, 7th International Conference on Signal Processing and Communication Systems (ICSPCS)","volume":"27 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128180677","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The measurements were carried out in the frequency band of 3.1-5.3 GHz in various line-of-sight (LOS) scenarios. Beyond the conventional approach of analyzing the time dispersion characteristic of the UWB channel by mean of delay spread, this paper includes the analysis of the UWB channel stationarity. Stationarity results show that the degree of variation in the channel statistics is clearly observable with large deviations at some channels. The relevance of such stationarity analysis is projected with some practical insight into the interpretation of the stationarity concept.","PeriodicalId":294442,"journal":{"name":"2013, 7th International Conference on Signal Processing and Communication Systems (ICSPCS)","volume":"23 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128274652","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
