Various problems of applying reinforcement learning method in Mobile Ad hoc Networks (MANETs), such as optimization, the routing-loop problem and the convergence problem, are all addressed accordingly. A power-control scheme which makes use of the on-demand routing information to form an objective function are introduced in order to find an optimal power level that provides a suitable trade-off between transmission range and interference. The impact between power control and routing are also discussed in this paper. Simulations show that our method can achieve better performance under different load and mobility conditions.","PeriodicalId":294442,"journal":{"name":"2013, 7th International Conference on Signal Processing and Communication Systems (ICSPCS)","volume":"51 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115720071","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We formulate the optimization problem of multi-channel cooperative spectrum sensing (CSS) to maximize the average throughput of the CRN by jointly optimizing the SUs assignment and the sensing time. Considering the optimization problem is non-convex, we transform the optimization problem to two subproblems: the SUs assignment and the sensing time setting. Specifically, a maximum cost function reduction algorithm and water-filling compensation algorithm are proposed to solve the SUs assignment. An iterative algorithm is used to optimize the sensing time. Numerical results show that the proposed algorithms can achieve the performance which is close to that of exhaustive algorithm. Moreover, the joint design can further improve the average throughput of the CRN.","PeriodicalId":294442,"journal":{"name":"2013, 7th International Conference on Signal Processing and Communication Systems (ICSPCS)","volume":"43 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126343581","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This task is made harder when matching scenes containing repetitive patterns. The description of many feature points may be identical causing ambiguity in the matching results. This paper presents a filtering algorithm to remove erroneous matches caused by repetitive patterns. The proposed algorithm geometrically segments feature point locations into localized groups which are checked for consistency using correlation. A hierarchical approach is taken whereby neighboring groups are checked for consistency and collapsed into stronger ones. Finally a global model is calculated and used to ensure all cliques satisfy the scene geometry. The proposed method is generic and does not rely on specific feature detection algorithm. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method is superior to current state-of-the-art algorithms in accuracy and efficiency. The accuracy of matching repetitive patterns obtained from the proposed method is up to 99% compared to 96% obtained by previous state-of-the-art matching algorithms. The root mean squared residual matching error has been improved to 1.11 pixels compared to 4.09 obtained from current state-of-the-art image matching algorithms. The execution time of the method is competitive with most state-of-the-art image matching algorithms.","PeriodicalId":294442,"journal":{"name":"2013, 7th International Conference on Signal Processing and Communication Systems (ICSPCS)","volume":"29 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125992136","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Amplitude modulation is often employed to transform a lowpass system into a narrowband one. In this paper, a technique is proposed to estimate an amplitude-modulated signal using a matrix representation of coherently sampled repetitive measurement sweeps. It is also shown how the technique may be extended using partitioning of the signal matrix to account for both sensor offset and linear time drift. The method is able to simultaneously produce good estimates of the signal amplitude, drift and offset. Results demonstrate that the technique is promising when applied in situations where sensor drift precludes the normal application of synchronous detection.","PeriodicalId":294442,"journal":{"name":"2013, 7th International Conference on Signal Processing and Communication Systems (ICSPCS)","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121766786","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The tracked information is useful in calculating crowd behavior parameters such as density, speeds and paths that are critical in making automated decision about crowd behavior. During occluded scenarios, it is very common to have only head and shoulder visible in the videos and the rest of the body is blocked by other people or objects. Although there is wealth of information in literature, tracking in occluded high density environments is not well addressed. In this paper, we aim to detect head and shoulder of people by hybrid motion and visual features in a low quality video with occlusion and cluttered environment. We propose an improved version of histogram of oriented optical flow (HOOF) called integral HOOF. The HOOF is not only shown to be a discriminative feature in low quality video, but also an alternative way to segment moving objects in a video. HOOF and Histogram of Oriented Gradient (HOOG) features are extracted from a real world surveillance video, and Support Vector Machine classifier is trained to detect heads and shoulders. Experimental result shows the HOOF has high precision, recall and accuracy on detecting heads and shoulders.","PeriodicalId":294442,"journal":{"name":"2013, 7th International Conference on Signal Processing and Communication Systems (ICSPCS)","volume":"219 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115973609","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Considering access-point (AP) terminal pair, as the transmission power of AP is limited to -41.3dBm/MHz from FCC regulation, result in low received signal intensity, thus time-reversal (TiR) scheme based on pre-rake combine technique is suggested as a promising solution to improve Eb/N0 of terminal and also keep terminal structure simple. In our previous work, it has been experimentally discussed that longer TiR filter length (number of combined multi-path) takes better Eb/N0 [1]. However when in high transmission rate, the longer filter length should also take the harder inter-symbol interference (ISI) resulting in degradation of bit error rate (BER). In this work under many kinds of transmission rates, the optimum TiR filter length has been discussed by measurement and simulation.","PeriodicalId":294442,"journal":{"name":"2013, 7th International Conference on Signal Processing and Communication Systems (ICSPCS)","volume":"175 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134067686","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

As the number of applications which are supported by the vehicular communication grow, the efficient utilization of the control channel and congestion control become important issues. The periodic broadcast of basic safety messages (BSM) by the vehicles consumes most of the control channel interval, leaving less transmission capacity for other types of traffic. To accommodate the data packets from other safety and non-safety applications, the packet transmission rate of BSM must be controlled without compromising the safety of the vehicles. In this paper, we present a BSM generation rate control algorithm based on the measured time headway of the vehicles. The performance analysis shows that the proposed rate control algorithm reduces the channel utilization and improves the BSM reception ratio at different vehicle densities and vehicle speeds. Moreover, the proposed rate control algorithm effectively reduces the notification time of a multi-hop warning message.","PeriodicalId":294442,"journal":{"name":"2013, 7th International Conference on Signal Processing and Communication Systems (ICSPCS)","volume":"85-86 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131743561","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These algorithms solve the base line problem through simulating various potential transforms between image pairs. These simulated views may be easier to match using traditional feature matching algorithms than the original wide baseline views. This paper presents a novel approach to approximating the orientation between wide baseline views. The proposed method tentatively matches affine invariant regions, normalizes and aligns the regions using whitening transforms to produce an affine transform for the scene. To increase efficiency, edge pixels are utilized rather than correlating regions. Results show that the proposed method is able to match scenes containing up to 80 degrees in vertical and horizontal perspective change. The method is superior to state-of-the-art ASIFT algorithms in terms of execution time.","PeriodicalId":294442,"journal":{"name":"2013, 7th International Conference on Signal Processing and Communication Systems (ICSPCS)","volume":"42 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126130685","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
