Although meant to encourage fast marketization of economy and empower the population, their adverse consequences seem to have spurred social mobilizations in the region. This paper seeks to provide an overview of theoretic frameworks for the analysis of urban protests as a form of activism in the region. Authoritarian neoliberalism accurately captures the roots of social activity in the cities which provide and reveal the scope and of neoliberal changes. Unlike those described in mainstream literature, local social mobilizations are grassroot in nature, occurring without the support of institutionalized actors.","PeriodicalId":294410,"journal":{"name":"Central Asia's Affairs","volume":"42 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127147753","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Currently, young people are actively promoting the importance of studying not only within the walls of Kazakh universities, but also abroad. The main channels of youth migration in Kazakhstan are “education and labor migration”. At first glance, education and labor migration seem to be “temporary” migration channels. As practice shows, it is education and labor migration that will later become channels for the departure of Kazakh youth for permanent residence. As a rule, there are several years of study at universities and colleges. In addition, while studying or working, the emigrant gets acquainted with the local culture, teaches the language. The changes that have occurred in the socio-economic and political life of society actualize the educational process. In conditions of fierce competition in the field of education, it is important for our state to regulate educational migration in the international market of educational services. The article examines the main reasons for the educational migration of Kazakh youth to Russia, the influence and contribution of educational emigrants in the educational and scientific, socio-economic and political spheres of both countries. The article presents the data of an expert interview characterizing the role of educational migrants. The survey was attended by 4 experts who work on educational migration and are engaged in its in-depth study and analysis. Based on the expert interview, the main reasons and influencing factors about the choice of future students that contribute to the educational migration are analyzed, and the role of students and graduates in the development of both societies is predicted.","PeriodicalId":294410,"journal":{"name":"Central Asia's Affairs","volume":"12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124762321","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Considering that international organizations are made up of members with varying power dynamics, there is often criticism that they represent the interests of power players and not a true consensus-building platform that would enable solving collective issues. The schools of realism and neoliberalism in the framework of International Relations attribute various roles to international organizations (IOs); while the first regard them as mere instruments of nation-states, the latter view them as crucial international players with autonomous status. This article critically evaluates various issues related to the efficiency and design of international institutions in the framework of this interparadigm debate and with consideration of the UN as a prime example. The analysis illustrates that further research in the field of IOs is imperative for both theoretical model-building as well as practical developments in the field. Finding workable models is a vital concern for all international organizations, regardless of their purpose, size and origin.","PeriodicalId":294410,"journal":{"name":"Central Asia's Affairs","volume":"89 21","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"113932990","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the twentieth century, the countries acutely experienced two waves of populism, which coincided with the historical periods of political transitions of the change of power, namely, the transition from oligarchy to mass politics, from authoritarian regimes to democracy, which subsequently created the solid ground for neoliberal reforms. The article notes the left-populist regimes and their anti-elitist orientation, and also analyzes that weak institutionalization, class orientation and a high level of polarization of left-wing populism after the consequences of COVID-19 will finally lead to an institutional crisis, a violation and lose of the balances and a straight shift to competitive authoritarianism in the future.","PeriodicalId":294410,"journal":{"name":"Central Asia's Affairs","volume":"29 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114492933","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The research subject is may be defined as the phenomenon of food security in its global context. According to the relevance of the studied issues, a comparative analysis of the management mechanisms responsible for the formation of the main business processes in the field of providing the population with sufficient food was carried out. The relationship between the guaranteed level of food supply and compliance with the principles of social justice has been proved. The Republic of Kazakhstan does not face the threat of famine, however, there are certain problems associated with the peculiarities of food self-sufficiency, in particular, there is dependence on imports of a number of strategically important food products. It is shown how the level of self-sufficiency in food affects the state of food security based on the international situation and the current conjuncture of food markets.","PeriodicalId":294410,"journal":{"name":"Central Asia's Affairs","volume":"44 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-03-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129565894","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
