This mixed blessing also dominates the relation between Big Data and trust. On the one side, large amounts of trust-related data can be utilized to establish innovative data-driven approaches for reputation-based trust management. On the other side, this is intrinsically tied to the trust we can put in the origins and quality of the underlying data. In this paper, we address both sides of trust and Big Data by structuring the problem domain and presenting current research directions and inter-dependencies. Based on this, we define focal issues which serve as future research directions for the track to our vision of Next Generation Online Trust within the FORSEC project.","PeriodicalId":291899,"journal":{"name":"2014 25th International Workshop on Database and Expert Systems Applications","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-09-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126994489","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the imminent crisis aftermath, emergency managers and decision makers require a real-time holistic situation overview to guide and generate rapid decision action plan. Traditional emergency management tools simply are unable to deliver [4], instead they incur large delays and gaps in knowledge. Modern technological solutions are needed to generate a quick feedback loop from the in-situ filed situation. In this paper we provide a short overview of current state of the art commercial, open-source, and research emergency management tools aiming for recovery phase: situation assessment and decision support tools. We briefly introduce general end-user requirements that such emergency management tools should fulfil.","PeriodicalId":291899,"journal":{"name":"2014 25th International Workshop on Database and Expert Systems Applications","volume":"417 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-09-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124186128","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The problem is approached as an information retrieval task where an entire ex-periment is taken as the query and searched through a collection of previous experiments. The relevant experiments are required to be retrieved based on the content similarity rather than their meta-data descriptions. A comparison of different fingerprinting and distance computation schemes is presented over a retrieval framework based on the differential expression of genes in varying time points.","PeriodicalId":291899,"journal":{"name":"2014 25th International Workshop on Database and Expert Systems Applications","volume":"40 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-09-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124231867","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We are, particularly, interested in the Simple Motif Search Problem (SMP). We propose a new algorithm to process this problem called SMS_H_CCA, which allows searching the most specific patterns and therefore the most relevant ones to biologists. This algorithm is based on the use of a hash table of patterns as an indexing structure, and the search for the approximate consensus strings. SMS_H_CCA makes use of less time and space than the known algorithms dealing with SMP.","PeriodicalId":291899,"journal":{"name":"2014 25th International Workshop on Database and Expert Systems Applications","volume":"8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-09-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133299339","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Actually, there exist several works in this field, which are based on statistical and machine learning approaches for different categories of texts. Unfortunately, most of the proposed methods work fine on clean texts and/or long texts, but often present a failure when the text is corrupted or too short. In this research work, we use a typical dataset consisting of short texts collected from several discussion forums containing several types of noises. Our dataset contains 32 different languages, where we notice that some languages are quite different while some others are too closed. In this investigation, we propose two types of methods to identify the text language: term-based method and character-based method. Moreover, we propose two hybrid methods to enhance the performances of those techniques. Experiments show that the proposed hybrid methods are quite interesting and present good language identification performances in noisy texts.","PeriodicalId":291899,"journal":{"name":"2014 25th International Workshop on Database and Expert Systems Applications","volume":"70 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-09-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125349917","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The design of the FITS format was influenced by punch cards, thus it is extremely inappropriate for modern hardware. Even though this format is well established in the domain of astrophysics and will be definitely used as a common ground for data exchange, a new representation is required if the data are to be processed efficiently in a high performance manner. In this paper, we propose a specialized column-oriented format for the measured data, which allows much faster loading from the persistent data storage and direct application of the data in computational operations. Furthermore, we have tested various I/O methods implemented in modern operating systems to accommodate different access patterns that were observed in various use cases. We have created a prototype implementation of the proposed methods and experimentally evaluated their benefits.","PeriodicalId":291899,"journal":{"name":"2014 25th International Workshop on Database and Expert Systems Applications","volume":"46 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-09-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116675863","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The \"ministory approach\" provides those properties and is therefore an appropriate concept to address the challenges of disaster management. This paper focuses on the implementation of the mini story approach in the context of disaster management. It presents the concept, design and the mapping strategy as well as implementation details of the Dynamic Disaster Management System Component. This includes details on required design decisions and selection of appropriate technologies. The resulting Dynamic Disaster Management System Component is able to provide the required flexibility for task handling and the management processes in case of disaster.","PeriodicalId":291899,"journal":{"name":"2014 25th International Workshop on Database and Expert Systems Applications","volume":"47 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-09-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132555796","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The frightening increase in malware for the Android and iOS platforms in addition to the adoption of ARM architectures outside of the mobile market only bolster this need. In this paper, we investigate the ARM architecture as well as its security and virtualization extensions available only on the newest generation of ARM processors. Considering these extensions, we present a concept for a multi-tiered security architecture for mobile computing devices. Our concept combines a custom TrustZone component and leverages the advanced features of the Xen hypervisor to present an all encompassing framework for all aspects of security including both load and runtime verification of critical components, strong isolation between components, and virtual machine introspection for anomaly detection.","PeriodicalId":291899,"journal":{"name":"2014 25th International Workshop on Database and Expert Systems Applications","volume":"15 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-09-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128073523","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Therefore, this research attempts to see whether frequent pattern mining method could produce significant information from genetic variants by mining deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) in particular Single Nucleotide Polymorphism (SNP). The experiments were done using sample enumeration algorithm on diabetes data. Based on our experiments, the genetic variants with diabetes risks were found in low support value. The patterns generated were informative to draw relations between the reported risky SNPs with other unreported SNPs.","PeriodicalId":291899,"journal":{"name":"2014 25th International Workshop on Database and Expert Systems Applications","volume":"34 6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-09-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116407644","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Benn","doi":"10.1109/DEXA.2014.59","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.1109/DEXA.2014.59","url":null,"abstract":"The MR (MapReduce) framework, a programming model for parallel computation over data stored in a cluster of commodity computers, established itself as one of the leading solutions for Big Data processing. This framework is also being used like a query language in many database systems, because it can process data stored in various unstructured, semi-structured, and structured formats. Nevertheless, the MR framework can be used for XML data processing too, it does not allow to write queries in a declarative manner, like XPath or XQuery. To overcome this problem, we propose a system that enables to query XML data with XPath, but it evaluates the queries in parallel using the MR framework. First, we introduce a persistent storage that maps XML data into a wide-column store. The proposed mapping enables efficient and distributed data processing. Secondly, we describe a query processor translating an XPath language subset to MR jobs. Finally, we present tests and their results showing the scalability of our system.","PeriodicalId":291899,"journal":{"name":"2014 25th International Workshop on Database and Expert Systems Applications","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-09-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131252881","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
