Open data holds particular potential in the health and social sectors but, presently, health and social data are often published in a 'closed' format. There are different tools that allow to 'open' data, clean, structure and process them in order to elaborate them and build advanced services but, unfortunately, there is no single tool that can be used to perform all different tasks. We believe that the availability of Open Data in the health and social fields should be greatly increased and a way for creating new health and social services should be provided. In this paper, we present a framework that allows to create health and social Open Data starting from whatever is available on the web and to easily build advanced services based on those data.","PeriodicalId":291570,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 17th International Conference on Computer Systems and Technologies 2016","volume":"39 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-06-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124866320","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is applied to stereo image pairs obtained by observations of the Meteosat Second Generation (MSG) geostationary satellites in a stereo setup. The performance of the method is tested both as mono band and multi spectral stereo. The estimated CTH are compared with the cloud altitude maps provided by the MODerate resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on Terra-Aqua polar satellites. The results show that the new version of the method, performs better in comparison with the original algorithm despite the not proper stereo features of the system.","PeriodicalId":291570,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 17th International Conference on Computer Systems and Technologies 2016","volume":"14 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-06-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127618976","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

More precisely, given an initial infected population (mobile devices), we establish upper bounds on the time needed for a counter-measure to take effect after infection (response-time), in order to prevent a malware pandemic. Thus, within a period of time, we guarantee that not all the susceptible devices in the city get infected and some (or, all) infected ones get sanitized. In our work, we first propose a malware propagation model along with a device mobility model and then, utilizing these models, we develop a simulator that we use to study the spread of malware in such networks. Finally, we provide experimental results for the pandemic prevention taken by our simulator for various response-time intervals.","PeriodicalId":291570,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 17th International Conference on Computer Systems and Technologies 2016","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-06-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130009774","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This cloud-based tool leverages meta-data analysis and text-mining techniques to visualize the semi-structured patent and journal articles data stored on Web of Science database. The designed cloud-based tool can automate the process of patent landscape visualization, scientific literature mapping and provides an independent interface for comparing patent and paper trends on a specific subject. The implementation demonstrates how a flexible plugin system can benefit tools by introducing new data sources. We also present a roadway to fully realize a service oriented analysis service for utilizing open data and discuss the steps required to realize this vision.","PeriodicalId":291570,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 17th International Conference on Computer Systems and Technologies 2016","volume":"18 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-06-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125200018","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper we propose a new method for selecting biometric features in order to recognize body postures when performing simple swipes on the touch screens of smartphones. We performed a controlled experiment in which participants performed the swipes in six different postures (standing and five variants of sitting postures). From the experimental data we extracted features describing the swipe movements and performed feature selection with our method, which leverages the t-test statistic to compare the similarity of values in each pair of postures for each feature. The results show that several touch pressure-related features that were extracted significantly contribute to body posture recognition of a user.","PeriodicalId":291570,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 17th International Conference on Computer Systems and Technologies 2016","volume":"46 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-06-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131334843","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper we adopt the perspective of the teacher, and after surveying factors such as language features, programming paradigms, curricular concerns and students' perceptions, we present extended results of the empirical assessment of student performance at our introductory programming course, where a switch was recently made from Modula-2 to Java, keeping the course structurally unchanged. Our main aim is to investigate the impact of the first programming language to the acquisition of essential programming concepts, techniques and principles. New results involving students' high-school GPA and performance at other courses, backed up by thorough statistical analysis, remove some potential sources of bias regarding students' learning and cognitive abilities, reaffirming the overall conclusion that the programming language used in the introductory programming course does not have a deep impact on the acquisition of essential concepts, techniques and principles of the imperative programming style.","PeriodicalId":291570,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 17th International Conference on Computer Systems and Technologies 2016","volume":"37 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-06-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131994842","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The preprocessing of text is accomplished by a parser, based on dependency grammar. Machine learning techniques are applied to predict the type of the clause: with a zero pronoun, with a subject or impersonal. Finally, we apply rules using the full syntactic tree provided by the parser to identify the most probable antecedent of the zero anaphor.","PeriodicalId":291570,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 17th International Conference on Computer Systems and Technologies 2016","volume":"25 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-06-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132383839","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
