This is evident as they plan their lessons meticulously to ensure that their students are actively engaged in some form of activity or preparing for a task. The purpose of the paper is to examine the advantages, obstacles, and impact of using games on student engagement and involvement throughout the learning process. The findings will reveal that game-based learning has a profound and positive outcome on student level of motivation, comprehension, and retention of newly taught concepts.","PeriodicalId":291421,"journal":{"name":"2014 International Conference on Web and Open Access to Learning (ICWOAL)","volume":"27 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124801996","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Many studies have been conducted to explore the relations between players and companies by creating the trust within security and culture. Various models have been proposed to show the reliability of trust that in a successful e-commerce website. In this paper, we have built a new framework to aggregate the e-commerce culture with the facilities of the websites that can attract more players to increase the trust between the players and companies. This paper also explores factors in e-commerce related to Jordanian culture and religions, in the context of the great increase in the use of smart phones by all sectors of society around the country. Our new framework will explore the vision for companies to enhance services with increasing the trust by considering many different keys such as scalability, delivery on time and protected accounts with more website facilities.","PeriodicalId":291421,"journal":{"name":"2014 International Conference on Web and Open Access to Learning (ICWOAL)","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122009778","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Started in 2008 and gathering momentum over the past two years, now an online phenomenon, MOOCs (Massive Open Online Courses) reunite different perspectives over a globalized online learning. The paper analyses the use of OER and MOOCs in different study cases in Romanian universities. Several OER initiatives resulted from the over 1000 academia involved in the DidaTec lifelong learning and training for higher education teachers in the technical sciences and engineering field as a training course for university professors in 12 universities, within the aim of improving the use of ICT in higher education. Four universities from Romania started a Romanian MOOC environment, the UniCampus, which provides free access to valuable education in Romanian language, presented by well-known professors. The evaluation and quality assurance challenges of the Unicampus are mainly due to the restrictive educational setting in Romania. Two study cases on blending MOOCs in traditional higher education courses at undergraduate and Master level are also analysed from the impact on students' motivation. Integrating MOOCs in blended learning empower students with new abilities and requires a new and open teacher model.","PeriodicalId":291421,"journal":{"name":"2014 International Conference on Web and Open Access to Learning (ICWOAL)","volume":"31 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132162228","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These cues are extremely helpful to instructors in deciding whether to speed up, slow down, introduce new materials, or explain a concept in a different way. In this context, there is a strong desire to capture the social interactions between learners (i.e., instructor and student). These interactions could even arise while learners are on the move. This paper's research question is how could social applications like Facebook and Instangram help improve the learning experience? It is clear that these applications are nowadays used for “entertainment” but someone can tap into the opportunities they offer to improve instructor-student and student-student interactions. These interactions could also occur on the move due to smartphone and tablet widespread, which poses additional challenges on those who aim at providing a positive learning experience.","PeriodicalId":291421,"journal":{"name":"2014 International Conference on Web and Open Access to Learning (ICWOAL)","volume":"215 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134438944","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The National University Commissions (NUC) - the regulatory body for university education in Nigeria is proposing such. Nevertheless, in its drive to attain world-class status, Covenant University (CU) has developed and adopted an Open Access Policy (OAP) on the use and sharing of research findings, as well as dissemination of technical and pedagogical information. At CU efforts are geared towards the entrenchment of an OA culture in the management of interactions on knowledge sharing and use. Since its introduction in November 2011, OA has been on a steady rise in awareness and application in various strata of the university's interactions both internally and in relation to the external context. CU through its OA office (OACU) engaged in awareness exercises to sensitize its researchers, faculty and other workers alike on OA issues as well as develop and adopt an OAP. At present, the university has a functional repository system (http://eprints.covenantuniversity.edu.ng/) to which it requires faculty and staff to self-archive scholarly publications. The University runs a Green Open Access Journal (OAJ) platform comprising of seven journals (http://journals.covenantuniversity.edu.ng) covering the sciences to human development. Similarly, CU has adopted a publication and incentive system for its researchers and faculty that drives the publication of research works from the university in OA journals and conferences. The University only recently launched a lifelong teaching program and is about concluding the development of an Open and Distance Learning (ODL) policy to drive distance learning.","PeriodicalId":291421,"journal":{"name":"2014 International Conference on Web and Open Access to Learning (ICWOAL)","volume":"311 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131646305","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Since most of online learning systems are computer-based, adapting the keyboard for people with special needs will be of great effectiveness. This article presents an adaptive keyboard technology based on Morse code that will enable users with physical disability or functional limitations to access the proposed interface and interact fully with the given system with minimal input keys. This interface is enhanced with all the required functionalities that could be used in a common learning environment by the end user. The current computer keyboard will be reduced to five keystrokes only. The proposed adaptive Word processor allows preparing text documents such as letters, memos, research paper, homework and other correspondence for people with limited functionality by facilitating the interaction between the person with muscle weaknesses and the computer providing the learning interface.","PeriodicalId":291421,"journal":{"name":"2014 International Conference on Web and Open Access to Learning (ICWOAL)","volume":"45 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133226938","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

By combining elements from game theory with the use of e-Learning, the authors are able to provide a solution that offers a more efficient way of learning how to perform digital forensics investigations. Contrary to traditional learning methods, TFC is built on a Hyper Interactive Presenter (HIP) platform that incorporates VARK learning style model to take into account individuals' learning preferences. For visual and audio learners, it provides a video playback and Powerpoint presentation. Learners who prefer to read, there is a custom designed wiki page containing information relevant to the presented topic. While for kinesthetic learners, a multiple choice question based quiz is implemented, and a pedagogical chatbot agent is there to assist users. It provides easy navigation and interaction within the content. Preliminary results of the subjective experiment to evaluate the effectiveness of TFC suggests that such a system will prove useful in teaching digital forensic investigation to young students.","PeriodicalId":291421,"journal":{"name":"2014 International Conference on Web and Open Access to Learning (ICWOAL)","volume":"253 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117310309","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

One of the main obstacles for the further penetration of e-learning is the existence of the Digital Divide across nations or / and communities. Digital Divide is defined as the different level of ICT's adoption between nations or / and communities. In this paper the historic evolution of the Digital Divide across the Member States of the European Union is analyzed, in order on one hand to examine the effectiveness of the relevant policies in relation to Digital Divide elimination and on the other hand to examine whether European citizens have the same level of opportunities in relation to e-learning. To do so, indicative quantitative indicators have been selected, related to Information and Communications Technologies penetration and more specifically related to the existence of broadband infrastructure and the penetration of broadband services. The analysis of the selected indicators reveals the progress that has been achieved in relation to the elimination of the Digital Divide across EU countries, during the last few years. The results of analysis show that in some cases, like in the case of the existence of broadband infrastructure in rural areas, a clear improvement has been achieved. On the other hand the analysis of other indicators, like the fixed and mobile broadband penetration, indicates that despite the adopted relevant policies, slight or no improvement in relation to the elimination of the Digital Divide across EU 27 has been made.","PeriodicalId":291421,"journal":{"name":"2014 International Conference on Web and Open Access to Learning (ICWOAL)","volume":"17 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114862213","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
