Actually in some cases digital evidence represented the only proof of the innocence of the accused. In such a case this information constitutes a digital alibi. It usually consists of a set of local and Internet activities performed through a digital device. It has been recently shown how it is possible to setup a common PC in order to produce digital evidence in an automatic and systematic manner. Such traces are indistinguishable upon a forensic post-mortem analysis from those left by human activity, thus being exploitable to forge a digital alibi. In this paper we verify the undetectability of a false digital alibi by setting up a challenge. An alibi maker team set up a script which simulated some human activities as well as a procedure to remove all the traces of the automation including itself. The verification team received the script and executed it on its own PCs. The verification team could perform not only a usual post-mortem analysis but also a deeper forensic analysis. Indeed, they knew all the details of the script and the original state of the PC before running it. The verification confirmed that a well-constructed false digital alibi is indistinguishable from an alibi based on human activities.","PeriodicalId":290976,"journal":{"name":"2012 Sixth International Conference on Innovative Mobile and Internet Services in Ubiquitous Computing","volume":"72 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-07-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129127208","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The aim is to present a generalization of the assertion that a point process on a wireless communication network significantly depends on the links. In real world graph constructions, the decision on whether to connect two nearby points depends not only on the distance between the nearby points but also on the interaction between them. Motivated by the attempt to unify systematic development and application in modeling real world networks, we propose a new model, called related point process, to generate a random graph and point process by a two-step procedure: 1) the generation of a point process, and 2) the application of a kernel family to each edge to produce sub graphs. It is an alternative approach to specifying a structure of a small cluster in a wireless communication network. We also consider some properties of the model, showing, for example, the degree distribution by using a probability generating functional and giving some asymptotic analysis of the sub graph count. In particular, although our main concern is the power law distribution, we also take into account cases where the distribution model is arbitrary.","PeriodicalId":290976,"journal":{"name":"2012 Sixth International Conference on Innovative Mobile and Internet Services in Ubiquitous Computing","volume":"88 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-07-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128291386","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We have run pilot trials for air quality, water quality and plant disease monitoring. In these pilots, users have reported their personal observations or measurements of various environmental phenomena, using special location-based applications in their mobile phones. We found a relevant correlation between algae observations by untrained citizens and by professionals, which supports the feasibility of participatory sensing as a complementary information source for algae monitoring. One key issue in collecting useful participatory datasets is managing to motivate people for acting as mobile environmental sensors. Other important issues discussed in the paper include privacy preservation and reliability of user observations.","PeriodicalId":290976,"journal":{"name":"2012 Sixth International Conference on Innovative Mobile and Internet Services in Ubiquitous Computing","volume":"439 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-07-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"120939608","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In detail, this approach realizes a long-life learning strategy able to generate context-aware services and actualize them through abstraction techniques in order to maximize the users' comfort and hardware interoperability level. As will be shown in experimental results, where a usability study has been performed, the proposed approach is capable of anticipating user's requirements by automatically generating the most suitable collection of interoperable services for improving users' comfort.","PeriodicalId":290976,"journal":{"name":"2012 Sixth International Conference on Innovative Mobile and Internet Services in Ubiquitous Computing","volume":"103 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-07-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116215413","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Emerging standards such as 6LoWPAN/IPv6 and CoRE/CoAP will play a very important role in a Restful Web of Things, where each node has its own IPv6 address and is able to provide information and control about itself. Data exchanging in Machine To Machine (M2M) applications and communication with Web services require the use of structured data. XML is a possible solution, but its verbosity is not suitable for a WSN (e.g. based on IEEE 802.15.4) characterized by limited packet size. This paper investigates the benefits of Efficient XML Interchange (EXI) in a real scenario, considering sensor nodes running on the Contiki RTOS. For this purpose, the authors have implemented an extremely lightweight version of EXI for Contiki running on application boards with just 8 Kbyte RAM memory.","PeriodicalId":290976,"journal":{"name":"2012 Sixth International Conference on Innovative Mobile and Internet Services in Ubiquitous Computing","volume":"43 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-07-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121789440","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The software that nowadays is implemented in such devices offers a high level of customization, allowing to store a large amount of data that contains lots of information on user habits. The techniques of Digital Profiling, applied to data stored in a satellite navigation system and in particular on GPS navigators, allow to obtain a range of information that may be useful in conducting an investigation. Those information are, for example, the routes, the favorites, the starting point, and, in more advanced models, the dates of trips, travel times, etc. Such evidence may lead to the delineation of the behavioral profiles of users who have used it. This paper presents the application of Digital Profiling techniques to data taken from a GPS car navigation system.","PeriodicalId":290976,"journal":{"name":"2012 Sixth International Conference on Innovative Mobile and Internet Services in Ubiquitous Computing","volume":"38 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-07-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116012608","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The loss of orthogonality between the sub carriers will degrade the system performance, and this effect is named inter carrier interference (ICI). A Wiener-based successive interference cancellation (SIC) scheme has been proposed to detect the OFDM signals. It provides good ICI cancellation performance, however, it suffers large computation complexity. In this paper, a modified Wiener-based SIC scheme is proposed to reduce the computation complexity. Simulation results show that the performance of the modified Wiener-based SIC scheme has little degradation as compared to Wiener-based SIC scheme, while its computation complexity can be dramatically reduced.","PeriodicalId":290976,"journal":{"name":"2012 Sixth International Conference on Innovative Mobile and Internet Services in Ubiquitous Computing","volume":"65 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-07-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125235899","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper proposes a simple good put model of TCP In cast. Compared with previous In cast model, this model has three different properties. First, the TCP slow start process is considered as an essential part rather than a negligible one, since the request sizes are commonly small and most of the transmissions are accomplished in this process. Second, it exploits a simple logic of determining timeout to account for the cumulative effect of increasing packet losses, reflecting almost all the change points of the good put curves. Finally, the correctness of the model is validated through experimental results instead of simulations.","PeriodicalId":290976,"journal":{"name":"2012 Sixth International Conference on Innovative Mobile and Internet Services in Ubiquitous Computing","volume":"38 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-07-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128265826","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
