Several mechanisms have been proposed over the last years to mitigate the interference problem, where Coordinated Multipoint (CoMP) outstands as one of the best approaches to tackle the interference in cellular systems. The main disadvantage of CoMP is the need of high signalling over the system in order to exchange information among the different parties involved in the communication process (eNBs and UEs), that questions its practical benefit for the operators. This paper presents a novel beamforming mechanism that needs for very low signalling among the transmitting base stations, it is a low complexity transmission strategy, the amount of interference to cell edge users is controlled and it offers an outstanding performance. Computer simulations show the data rate enhancement of the proposed CoMP mechanism.","PeriodicalId":290924,"journal":{"name":"38th Annual IEEE Conference on Local Computer Networks - Workshops","volume":"87 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126019126","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Both kinds of information can be used to enable drivers to react in time and avoid hazardous situations. While the IEEE 802.11p standard has specifically been adopted for vehicular communications, its Distributed Coordination Function (DCF) operation can cause poor delivery rates when the communication channel is congested or when messages need to be transmitted over distances higher than 300 meters. In this paper, we propose MORS, a technique for transmission power adjustment to avoid channel congestion, combined with an efficient multi-hop data dissemination scheme. The purpose is to ensure low delays and high delivery rates for V2V communications at distances higher than it would normally be possible with the same effectiveness with 802.11p alone. The power adjustment technique is fully distributed and asymmetrical, and the multi-hop data dissemination scheme is based on a newly designed multi-metric which characterizes the available links capacity. MORS determines, at each hop, the best available link choice to ensure both reliable transmissions and a minimum delivery delay while reducing congestion and network load though adaptive power adjustment. Simulation results confirm the effectiveness of the proposed transmit-power adaptation and multi-hop relaying schemes under various realistic traffic constraints.","PeriodicalId":290924,"journal":{"name":"38th Annual IEEE Conference on Local Computer Networks - Workshops","volume":"43 8","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114027625","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

CC generated significant interest in the research community for optimizing Energy Efficiency (EE) in next-generation networks. However, envisioning CC as an energy-saving solution for M2M networks gives rise to unresolved problems and significant challenges. In this paper, we discuss the enabling technologies for cooperation in M2M networks, the benefits and challenges of employing these technologies and the open research issues. We first provide an overview of each technology for cooperation in M2M networks. We then study the interaction between the cooperation techniques and the M2M energy-efficient networks employing each of these technologies. We also provide the latest standardization activities of M2M communication in LTE-Advanced networks.","PeriodicalId":290924,"journal":{"name":"38th Annual IEEE Conference on Local Computer Networks - Workshops","volume":"14 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124964669","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It provides a wireless extension for OpenFlow. It is developed to support existing Wireless Local Area Networks (WLANs) and Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access (WiMAX) networks. It can provide several mobility managers and run them concurrently in the network including hard handover, informed handover, n-casting and Hoolock. However, the provided mobility support for flow-based routing, where flows of one source taking different paths through multiple wireless access points or base stations, is not simple and hard to be deployed in the traditional routing algorithms. This paper proposes an intelligent mobility enhancement control and then develops an algorithm to decide which neighbor switches need to be selected for the installation of new flow entries and to allocate the appropriate idle-timeout for the selected switches. The proposed approach provides a simple solution to solve the user mobility problem in wireless OpenFlow environments which can handle the fast migration of user addresses (e.g. IP addresses) between several wireless access points and base stations. This approach leads to improvement in the end users' experience.","PeriodicalId":290924,"journal":{"name":"38th Annual IEEE Conference on Local Computer Networks - Workshops","volume":"48 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125609892","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Meanwhile, other deployment scenarios are also being sought, such as in public transportation vehicles including buses and streetcars. In this paper, we propose a novel History-based Offloading Framework (HOF) to relieve overburdened macro networks from data traffic generated by mobile users in public transportation vehicles by utilizing small cells and Wi-Fi networks. A small base station (SBS) is installed onboard the vehicle; called a mobile SBS (mobSBS). Mobile users communicate with the mobSBS instead of the distant Macro base station (macroBS). In order to have efficient offloading in terms of bandwidth utilization, mobile data users are prioritized according to different pre-set classes. Our framework takes into account the mobile user's priority and service history to alleviate the effects of non-incessant Wi-Fi availability in order to maximize the offloaded macrocell data traffic. Extensive simulation results have shown that our proposed framework is highly effective in terms of the average offloaded macroBSs data traffic and the total count of offloaded users from the macroBSs.","PeriodicalId":290924,"journal":{"name":"38th Annual IEEE Conference on Local Computer Networks - Workshops","volume":"112 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132785580","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

New WLAN standards, such as IEEE 802.11ah, will provide optimized outdoor WLAN coverage with a range of 1 km, thus exceeding the number of associated WLAN nodes. Hence, massive access schemes are required in order to coordinate the wireless access among WLAN nodes and to mitigate mutual interference. In addition, various wireless networks will co-exist, such as WLANs and sensor networks, competing for channel access. Hence, a framework in order to coordinate WLANs and sensor networks in dense areas is essential. This paper is intended to outline the challenges of wireless access in urban WLANs and proposes a framework which considers the challenges of dense wireless access and discusses potential solutions. The contributions are twofold. A clustering framework is proposed to deal with the massive access of wireless nodes, in particular of IEEE 802.11ah WLAN nodes. Further, a radio resource monitoring and management (RRMM) is proposed to manage the co-existence among wireless networks. A novel system architecture is proposed and discussed in order to monitor and manage the WLAN access in highly dense urban areas.","PeriodicalId":290924,"journal":{"name":"38th Annual IEEE Conference on Local Computer Networks - Workshops","volume":"70 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128406654","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Independent of the functionalities provided by the WSN applications, many of the developers use visualization, simulation, and programming tools. However, these tools are designed as separate stand-alone applications, which force developers to use multiple tools. This situation often poses confusion and hampers an efficient development experience. To avoid the complexity of using multiple tools, we have designed a new extensible, multi-platform, scalable, and open-source framework called PROVIZ, which is an integrated visualization and programming framework. In this paper, we explain the various features of PROVIZ's visualization and programming framework and discuss how PROVIZ can be used as a visual debugging tool to aid in providing a software fix.","PeriodicalId":290924,"journal":{"name":"38th Annual IEEE Conference on Local Computer Networks - Workshops","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131102881","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
