In particular, Machine Type Communication (MTC) devices are foreseen as potential source of overload in the Long Term Evolution (LTE) networks. In this paper, we study overload scenarios caused by MTC traffic in LTE and investigate how to solve them. Especially, we study Extended Access Barring (EAB) recently introduced in 3GPP to control the access load. We find that performance of the EAB scheme depends on many factors such as what parameters are used and how the parameter values are updated in the System Information (SI). We find that EAB solution for MTC overload control can solve the overload situation effectively, if configured properly.","PeriodicalId":290330,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE Globecom Workshops","volume":"2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128287050","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

By this model, the consumers are charged according to the usage without regard to where the services are hosted or how they are delivered. Usually cloud services are offered as various delivery models among which Storage-as-a-Service cloud is gaining interest in recent time. In this model, raw (block) storage is offered as a service. Like any other utility services, cloud negotiates its service levels and guarantees with its consumers by establishing Service Level Agreements (SLAs). SLA is important in any provider-consumer interaction as it defines a formal basis for performance and availability the provider guarantees to deliver. It consists of a set of measurable attributes called SLA parameters which are established by some objectively measurable conditions, termed as Service Level Objectives (SLOs). However, the SLAs provided by the present day state-of-the-art clouds are relatively biased towards vendors and do not provide any formal method of verifying if the guarantees are complying or not. This paper attempts to identify the SLA parameters for Storage-as-a-Service cloud delivery model and proposes a monitoring framework for compliance checking.","PeriodicalId":290330,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE Globecom Workshops","volume":"48 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129819943","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, the CS idea is applied to multi-baseline SAR tomography 3-D imaging. Aiming at solving the bad imaging quality problem caused by sparse baselines in practical applications, the sparse model in the height direction of multi-baseline SAR is built according to the limited scattering centers hypothesis. Thus the problem of imaging in the height direction is transformed to the problem of reconstructing a sparse signal. And the lp-norm minimization methods are utilized to solve this problem. Simulation results show that the proposed method not only can overcome the limitation of Rayleigh Criterion, but also can solve the problem brought about by the non-uniform distribution of baselines in noisy environment.","PeriodicalId":290330,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE Globecom Workshops","volume":"23 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130705013","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

One of them is so-called “Small Data Applications (SDAs).” Due to the unique characteristic of SDA that each of SDAs will transmit merely a small data amount, the network should accommodate a large number of Random Access (RA) attempts every time each SDA has something to transmit. It is one of the most important issues in LTE-A networks to efficiently handle the heavy RA load caused by a huge number of SDAs. We consider two major candidate methods for RA preamble allocation and management. Our modeling and analysis can be utilized as a guideline to design efficient RA preamble resource management methods to accommodate new network traffic patterns caused by frequent transmissions of small data by mobile data applications.","PeriodicalId":290330,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE Globecom Workshops","volume":"28 2","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132467577","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In his paper, we propose a novel and comprehensive compressive sensing-based system for data compression. Performance of our proposed system is compared with conventional compression algorithm such as Huffman coding in terms of mean square error (MSE) after decompression, computation complexity and compression ratio, etc. As an application example, we implement his system to real world wind tunnel data. Simulation results show that our system can yield comparable or even beer compression as Huffman coding in terms of information loss. The major drawback of Huffman coding is to calculate the probability of each symbol which means it is not be appropriate for real time coding due to large amount of calculation. Meanwhile, our proposed system can process data by multiplying original data with Gaussian or Bernoulli sensing matrix directly which is also easy to implement.","PeriodicalId":290330,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE Globecom Workshops","volume":"19 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132153067","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this model, anyone can send or receive the multicast packets once it joins the multicast group. As a result, the multicast service is difficult to deploy due to the lack of effective authentication and accounting mechanisms. The recent development of the new Internet architecture based on the Identifier/Locator Separation mechanisms brings a promising opportunity to improve the multicast service model. In this paper, we propose a Multicast service model based on Identifier/Locator Separation (MILS) mechanism. This model introduces Multicast Service Identifier (MSI) and Multicast Group Identifier (MGI) to identify the multicast membership and the multicast delivery. Besides, it utilizes Multicast Controller (MC) to maintain the mapping between MSI and MGI to provide the authentication and accounting functions, so as to satisfy the different requirements of multicast services. We evaluate its performance by simulations, and analyze its scalability in terms of the group number and session density. The results show that the MILS can reduce the multicast states and improve the performance of multicast services.","PeriodicalId":290330,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE Globecom Workshops","volume":"54 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130481465","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To overcome the limit of high-order modulation formats for long distance transmission, traffic can be split and carried by multiple channels, with each modulated at lower rates. However, the flexibility offered by EON and its multi-channel variant comes with a higher cost for extra hardware components (e.g., laser and modulator array). This paper studies the single- and multi- channel EON schemes from a cost effectiveness point of view, with comparison to the conventional 40/100G provisioning scheme based on the ITU-T grid. We first propose and discuss the hardware module implementation of the EON schemes. By decomposing the hardware module into mechanics and electrical, analog/digital conversion, and optics, we propose cost models for each part based on current and historical market data. Two key metrics, hardware cost and traffic-share cost, are calculated and analyzed. We show that the hardware cost based on the proposed model well matches the market trend. Also, the result indicates that the two EON schemes, though are more expensive due to hardware complexity, can effectively reduce the traffic-share cost according to our simulation of a network-wide provisioning scenario. In particular, the multi-channel EON can reduce the traffic-share cost by up to 21.1% from the single-channel EON in the investigated scenarios, achieving the highest cost effectiveness among the three schemes.","PeriodicalId":290330,"journal":{"name":"2012 IEEE Globecom Workshops","volume":"8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131653409","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
