The objective is to gain insights into how these factors influence the well-being of tricycle riders and provide recommendations for enhancing their welfare in challenging times. The study utilizes a quantitative research approach and collects data through a field survey. The demographic data of the respondents indicate that the sample predominantly consists of male respondents and individuals following the Islamic faith. The majority of respondents have completed the Senior Secondary Certificate Examination, followed by non-formal education and NCE/HND qualifications. Most respondents are married and fall within the age group of 36-45 years. Regression analysis is employed to analyze the data. The findings reveal that both accessibility to non-interest loans and borrowers' attitudes towards borrowing significantly impact the welfare outcomes of tricycle riders. Access to non-interest loans is positively associated with welfare, while negative attitudes towards borrowing are linked to lower welfare outcomes. Recommendations include enhancing access to non-interest loans, providing financial literacy programs, addressing negative attitudes towards borrowing, strengthening social safety nets, and fostering collaborative partnerships among stakeholders. This study contributes to the understanding of the welfare dynamics of tricycle riders in Kwara State, Nigeria, during the COVID-19 pandemic. It provides valuable insights for policymakers, financial institutions, and other relevant stakeholders to develop targeted interventions that support the welfare and economic resilience of tricycle riders and similar informal sector workers.","PeriodicalId":289590,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Islamic Banking and Finance Research","volume":"101 2","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139245233","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The essence of this research is the exploration of these profound ethical underpinnings and their resonance in the contemporary mercantile milieu. The study takes a deep dive into the historical evolution of Islamic finance to highlight its core values of fairness, societal stewardship, and sustainable growth. These values make it a compelling alternative to the criticisms often levelled at conventional monetary systems. This research methodology adopts a systematic literature review approach, sourcing information from peer-reviewed articles, books, conference papers, and reports from recognised financial bodies. The culmination of this endeavour reveals an intricate interplay between the time-honoured ethics of Islamic finance and its manifestation in the modern economic realm. The introduction suggests that Islamic finance offers moral rectitude by championing risk-sharing and avoiding interest-driven transactions in today's globalised commerce.","PeriodicalId":289590,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Islamic Banking and Finance Research","volume":"31 6","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139246036","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

According to classical thought, the essence of Islamic economics is not to prohibit making a profit but to prioritize people’s well-being and, hence, enjoy the profit. This study examines the regulation and functioning of Islamic financial institutions (IsFIs), including their compliance with Sharia law. It explores the ethical considerations surrounding IsFIs by examining how their financial services align with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The study aims to shed light on the challenges and opportunities within the IBF sector, ultimately contributing to a deeper understanding of its role in promoting ethical finance and sustainable development. This study employs an empirical legal research approach to investigate the legal framework of IBF. The results reveal that by effectively highlighting ethical foundations and objectives, Islamic finance will attract a larger market of Muslims and arouse the interest of a wider audience of stakeholders who are not just interested in avoiding financial transactions that support prohibited practices. The findings of this study suggest that a major obstacle to the massive growth of the Islamic banking and finance sector is the existence of contradictions that depend especially on the excessively liberal accreditation of Islamic banks as “Sharia compliant.”","PeriodicalId":289590,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Islamic Banking and Finance Research","volume":"29 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114465742","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study aims to compare the digital transformation of the Saudi banking sector with that of developed and emerging Islamic countries by examining progress, digital solutions to banking services provided, and regulatory frameworks. To this end, a systematic review was conducted, analyzing 44 primary documents and seven websites collected through a 5-step process: scoping, planning, searching, selection, and eligibility. Next, a comparative analysis of these documents was conducted, analyzing the similarities and differences of the digital transformation processes addressed by Saudi Arabia, the U.S., the United Kingdom, and Malaysia. The findings revealed that Saudi Arabia and Malaysia have banking sectors of similar size, smaller than those of the U.S. and the U.K., although all of these sectors are of significant importance in the economies of their respective countries, as measured by their share in GDP. All countries have adopted similar digital technologies and offer very similar banking services. Concerning its regulatory frameworks, the U.K.'s sandbox approach is the most effective and inspiring. At the same time, the U.S. needs to catch up due to its regulatory complexities and differences in approach between federal and state jurisdictions. For their part, Saudi Arabia and Malaysia have developed their regulatory frameworks with approaches inspired by the U.K. model, although both differ in the degree of Sharia compliance.","PeriodicalId":289590,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Islamic Banking and Finance Research","volume":"22 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126257944","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Although many challenges have been faced by Takaful successfully, there are still some issues that need to be improved especially in terms of the legal, supervisory, and institutional framework, and the directions for future research by focusing on statistical analysis and economic significance, and its primary objective to serve the society. Hence, this paper examines the association between the Malaysian Takaful sector and real economic growth pre and post-IFSA 2013 for the period of 2007 – 2019. This study employs both quantitative and qualitative analysis, in which Pearson Correlation Coefficient is adopted for the quantitative analysis, while an interview session with 5 experts is employed for the qualitative analysis. The quantitative findings show that Takaful is positively linked to real economic growth significantly pre-IFSA 2013 but insignificantly post-IFSA 2013, supporting the supply-leading hypothesis. Meanwhile, the qualitative findings suggest that IFSA 2013 does assist the Takaful sector to improve the real economic growth in Malaysia via its rules and regulation, and the Takaful industry has contributed its own humble quota to economic growth by creating jobs the society and adding value to both participants and businesses.","PeriodicalId":289590,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Islamic Banking and Finance Research","volume":"27 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125313670","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study adopts both quantitative and qualitative analysis, where Autoregressive Distributed Lag (ARDL) method of cointegration is adopted for the quantitative analysis, while interview session is adopted for the qualitative analysis. The findings found that the link between Shari’ah-compliant Securities (SCS) and the real economic growth is negatively significant, while the link between Shari’ah-compliant Market Capitalization (SCMC) and the real economic growth is positively significant in both short and long runs. It is also shown that IFSA 2013 does assist the Islamic capital market sector to improve the real economic growth in Malaysia via its rules and regulations, as the coefficients and significance of the real economic growth as proxied by the industrial production index (IPI) are improving with the implementation of IFSA 2013. Besides, the qualitative results of the study have shown that Islamic capital market does promote economic growth by ensuring stability in the market and significantly contributing to the environmental, social and governance (ESG) via the implementation of SRI Sukuk, Bond Grant Scheme, ESG Financing/Sukuk, and value-based judgement projects. The work gives some insights into the field of Islamic capital market-growth nexus from the perspective of a developing country, which is Malaysia. It also delves further into the Islamic capital market-growth nexus by considering the effect of IFSA 2013.","PeriodicalId":289590,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Islamic Banking and Finance Research","volume":"24 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-04-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115083670","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The study approach related to quantitative method is based on the data collected through daily closing prices of Al Rajhi Bank shares for the period from 1/02/2018 to 9/23/2022. To analyze the data and test the study hypothesis, ARCH and GARCH models were applied in this paper. According to results of heteroskedasticity tests, values of R-squared, Akaike, Schwarz, and Hannan-Quinn of ARCH models, the GARCH (1, 1) model is suitable for describing the conditional variance and the estimation. The findings indicate that the positive shocks synchronizing with favorable conditions cause less severe fluctuations than the negative shocks synchronizing with unfavorable conditions. The research has some limitations that must be noted in terms of the study sample which represents only Islamic banks and therefore, the results cannot be generalized to other banks, similarly, the heterogeneity of banks in terms of the size of assets and finance capabilities. This research emphasizes the importance of developing banking performance and enhancing investment strategies to enhance the stability of bank share prices, especially during crises. Based on the results, investors may have the incentive to buy shares of Islamic banks according to stock price indices characterized by stability in the face of economic shocks. This study is considered as one of the main studies contributing to the analysis of the volatility of the daily closing share prices of Islamic Banks listed on the Saudi stock exchange (Tadawul).","PeriodicalId":289590,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Islamic Banking and Finance Research","volume":"21 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-04-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116627999","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Currently, Sukuk papers are growing, yet the studies are limited compared to Conventional Bond research. Our paper analyzes firm performance and characteristics to demonstrate how this affects choosing between the two securities. We examine these in a time series with the 2008 financial crisis intervention to see how this may have affected the issuance choice through logistic regression. Our study examines 628 Conventional Bonds and 227 Sukuk issuers globally across 12 countries from 2005 – 2017. We find in our research that the performance of companies issuing Sukuks resembles Conventional Bond issuers in financial performance. We confirm that larger companies will enter the Sukuk market as an alternative to the Conventional Bond market when there is a higher demand for capital. We also find that firms with higher financial performance may enter the Sukuk market as a premium where it may not be accessible in the Conventional Bond Market.","PeriodicalId":289590,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Islamic Banking and Finance Research","volume":"24 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-02-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116184023","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The purpose of this study is to present the socio-economic impact and role of Islamic banks in the economic development of Bangladesh. This research has tried to prove how Islami Bank contributes through various tests and methods. Comprehensive profile analysis was conducted by collecting data using a Google survey form from a sample of 100 Islamic bank customers. Firstly, based on the respondents' responses, most of the customers of Islamic banks are between 25-40 years based on age. First, the customers are highly educated and have a stable relationship with the bank. Second, awareness of clients and the current use of deposit instruments is commendable. Third, customers in education and income classes have an important role in using various banking services or products. Fourth, customers are always satisfied with using various products and services. Fifth, within the service delivery system, the employees of Islami Bank deserve immediate attention to improve customer satisfaction. However, as a result, we have yet to get high awareness and usage of any individual products/services through Islami Bank financing and facilities. Finally, the significant finding is the 'Principle of Religion,' which is the key to selecting a bank's criteria for its customers, where the demographics of clients play a more critical role in determining selection criteria than others.","PeriodicalId":289590,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Islamic Banking and Finance Research","volume":"24 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127646925","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The parametric method, stochastic frontier approach (SFA) was employed to measure both cost and technical efficiency of the banks. The efficiency scores of the sampled banks can be measured based on their performance in utilizing inputs to successfully generate output during the study period. It gauges the service quality of the banks taking loans and deposits as well as operating income and expenses into consideration. The study uses time series data from four conventional banks which provide Islamic banking widow in Ethiopia. The statistical findings show that the conventional banks have fairly better technical efficiency individually and collectively; however, the cost efficiency scores indicate that the banks are not efficient enough in terms of minimizing costs for a given scale and mix of outputs. Similarly, the results of the stochastic technical frontier estimates uncovers that there is positive significant relationship between the input variables namely total deposits and total operating expenses and output variables namely total financing and total operating income. The outputs remain an essential contributor to the cost efficiency in Islamic windows conventional banks in Ethiopia.","PeriodicalId":289590,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Islamic Banking and Finance Research","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-07-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121095397","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
