The electrical characteristics of the bonding interface are examined both theoretically and experimentally. Moreover, a physical model of the grain boundary in silicon is illustrated and the current flow mechanisms at the potential barrier are explained for unipolar as well as bipolar carrier transport. For bipolar current transport, the relation between minority carrier excess at the bonding interface and the modification of the potential barrier is analytically derived. The different current components at the grain boundary due to thermal emission and carrier recombination are determined. Based on this calculation, a negligible impact of the grain boundary under bipolar current condition, which has been already observed in finite element simulations, is predicted. Redundant state choices are controlled via a continuous sharing function, and small signal models are developed for closed loop regulators with this sharing function as the control variable. A d-axis pulsating flux is injected at low and zero speed, while it is drop-out, at large speed, to save voltage and additional loss. A flux-observer-based control scheme is used, which includes an accurate knowledge of the motor magnetic behavior. This leads, in general, to good robustness against load variations, by counteracting the magnetic cross saturation effect. Moreover, it allows an easy and effective correspondence between the wanted torque and flux and the set values of the chosen control variables, that is d-axis flux and q-axis current. Experimental verification of the proposed method is given, by pointing-out steady-state and dynamic performance as well. The algorithm uses the instantaneous imaginary power flowing into the machine as the basis of the estimation technique. The algorithm is simple and requires minimal parameter knowledge. Furthermore, being based on imaginary power, it does not suffer from accuracy problems at low speeds due to the influence of stator resistance. The result is helpful in developing proper features in the detection of this kind of fault in a diagnostic package. The analysis starts with the modeling of air-gap eccentricity in PM machines and is supported with both experimental and finite element simulation results. An integrated conducted RF-EMI power line filter to be used between integrated power electronics modules and power supplies has been proposed. A prototype filter has been built to demonstrate the feasibility of the construction processes. However, this structure has some unique high frequency characteristics and there is no, model available yet. On the other hand, a design-oriented model is highly desirable aiming to improve the filter module design. Based on generalized multiconductor transmission structure theory, this paper presents the electromagnetic modeling of an integrated RF EMI filter. The measured performance of the prototype is compared with the calculation results. Although the induction machines are popular for their ruggedness and simplicity, their starting torque is low and the starting current is 5 to 8 times higher than the rated current. A simple solution to this problem is the introduction of new rotor-bar material with paramagnetic properties, which in turn improves the starting power factor due to enhanced skin effect. Relevant electromagnetic theory supporting this are presented in this paper. A computer simulation also produced expected results. This paper describes test results of the insulation characteristics of a 5 HP, 380 V induction motors for inverter applications. Eight different types of insulation techniques are applied to 40 induction motors respectively. Insulation characteristics are compared with respect to partial discharge, capacitance, current, and dissipation factor tests. In fact, these assumptions restrict seriously the field of application of the models. Thus, a concept common to the existing models was that calculations should be in good agreement with experimental data within a more or less restricted range of applications. Under this condition the use of arbitrary adjustable parameters has been justified up to now. A collisional-radiative model with a large range of application, developed by the authors, is demonstrated in this paper. However, for an electrical engineer, the main difficulty consists on the integration of any plasma physical model within a circuit simulation. The speed of the wind turbine that drives the induction generator could be regulated or unregulated. During the voltage build up process there is a variation in the flux linkage of the induction generator. The variation of magnetising inductance is taken into account due to saturation of the core. The terminal voltage of the induction generator is controlled using the vector control technique when the electrical load and rotor speed are varied within a specified range. The output voltage is regulated by varying the flux in the induction generator when the rotor speed is varied.
