The tests included 50/60 Hz and 1.2×50 µs lightning impulse using negative and positive polarities. A detection sensor based on leakage magnetic flux (LMF) theory for broken strand of steel core in ACSR is developed by this paper, and the size of the detector is optimized by the modified niche adaptive genetic algorithm correspondingly. The detector can be carried by inspection robot to examine the conductors along overhead transmission lines. In the proposed detection scheme, the steel core in ACSR can be magnetized by 48H# Rb-Fe-B rare earth permanent magnet. Optimization design model is proposed, achieving minimal weight of detector is selected as the object function. A series of experiments were conducted under laboratory controlled conditions. The monitored parameters (conductivity, dissipation factor, water content, dissolved decay products, resistivity, turbidity ...) show that the electrification currents increase with temperature, fluid motion velocity, surface properties and the aging byproducts of the oil. The polarity, the amplitude and the time constant of the electrification currents are also affected. Accelerated thermal aging of two kinds of oil-paper insulation at 110°C were conducted in order to compare the aging characteristics of Kraft paper immersed in mixed insulating oil and mineral oil. The extent of paper degradation after aging was determined using the paper degree of polymerization (DP). The dissipation factor of aged oils and papers in two kinds of oil-paper insulation, and the structure of papers immersed in mixed insulating oil and mineral oil were also investigated. Paper immersed in mixed insulating oil degrades at a slower rate than in mineral oil. Compared with mineral oil/paper insulation, the transesterification of cellulose impregnated with mixed insulating oil can restrain the aging of paper. If the induced voltage is measured across a matched impedance at both ends, it may be possible to locate the distance and angle of incidence of the lightning. Researches on lightning induced voltages mainly focus on its effect to insulation across the conductor and ground. The situation is modeled in time domain, to plot the lightning distribution of a specific area of particular size. From the results, the relationship of induced voltages to the distance and angle of incidence of the cloud to ground lightning is to be presented. A thorough study on extracting information of each lightning incident parameters (i.e. distance and angle) from expected induced voltages is discussed. The model will be tested on a physical mock setup for its concept and applicability. Electrical stress together with heat and moisture, in the presence of oxygen, oxidises the oil producing free radicals, acids and sludge that are deleterious to the transformer. In this paper, the effect of electrical discharges on oil properties is reported. The results indicate that the quality of oil is considerably affected, with increasing voltage stress. The proposed method is based on the monitoring of the leakage current (LC) and the applied voltage of an EHV standard station insulator. By simply studying the LC evolution of several experimental tests, it was established that the evolution of a LC envelope is divided in two distinct periods where the transition between these two periods is clearly identified and is correlated with the bridging of the shed spacing by icicles. It was also observed that the duration of the first period is only dependent of the icing rate and is not influenced by the applied water conductivity. From these observations, it is possible to estimate the icing rate of an accumulation using specific tools like artificial neural networks (ANN).
