The author relies on the definition of parasocial relations, introduced by the American scientists D. Horton and R.R. Wohl. A secondary analysis of the data of several series of sociological studies conducted in the Siberian Federal District and a number of other regions of Russia served as the empirical base of the work. The concept of parasocial relations complements and expands the widespread notion of social relations, adopted and shared in sociological science. The key feature of parasocial relations in this work is the actual breakdown of social exchange relations, thus, the author attempts to separate the concept of parasocial relations and parasocial interactions. This article analyzes the main features of parasocial relationships, as well as the indices, which allow determining parasocial relationships using high-quality methods of sociological research. One of the key features of parasocial attitudes in the context of the perception of political power is the lack of an exchange component characteristic of the classical concept of social relations. An important feature of the attitude to power as a parasocial attitude is the emotional charge of such behavior, which is a significant motivator of political (including electoral) behavior. The third significant feature that characterizes the discussed relationships and interactions as parasocial is ambivalence, the tradition of which includes a large number of not only sociological, but also psychological and philosophical works. The author of the article substantiates the use of such an extensive layer of sociological material as the study of attitudes to power, as a basis for the study of parasocial relations. The article postulates that emotional processes play a key role in understanding such a class of phenomena as parasocial relationships or parasocial interactions. The author colludes that the further analysis of parasocial relations in various aspects of modern public life is promising.","PeriodicalId":286622,"journal":{"name":"Siberian Socium","volume":"14 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-10-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125187675","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

There is a downward trend regarding the number of young academic specialists — a negative factor for the entire educational system. The discussed problem may arise according to various reasons: changes in the law sphere or peculiarities of the educational organization activity. Both Western and Russian researchers conclude that the relations between an organization and its staff members are the key aspect of their loyalty. Thus, this article aims to examine the connection of a university organizational culture perception by the students with different types of identification demonstrated. The authors study the peculiarities of students’ perception of the university organizational culture. Altogether, 118 students participated in questionnaires that measure organizational culture with Organizational Culture Assessment Instrument and four types of identification with the university. The findings show the gap between students’ current and preferred perception of the university organizational culture. Consequently, the dominance of market culture that contradicts the desired “clan” culture orientation with the values of friendly and close relations environment, may influence the choice of academic career and postgraduate studies.","PeriodicalId":286622,"journal":{"name":"Siberian Socium","volume":"26 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-10-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121440705","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The authors aim to study the possibility of obtaining socially significant information through Big Data, in particular, on one of the aspects of environmental safety. Fundamental sociological theories are considered, such as theories of the risk society by W. Beck and E. Giddens, as well as the information society (accounting for the peculiarities of the influence of the latest information technologies on society, including Big Data). Based on a number of studies systematizing approaches to the definition of Big Data, the authors derive their own. Using qualitative methods (in particular, content analysis), the authors analyzed the example of the incident-management application provided by the Committee on Informatization and Communications of the City of Saint Petersburg. The empirical base of the study includes 16,694 comments on the public page of the governor of St. Petersburg Alexander Beglov, obtained through a program in Python and using VK Api. The study analyzes user comments on environmental risks in the districts of St. Petersburg, identifies areas that are most exposed to environmental risks, as well as the sources of these risks and the subjects of responsibility for them. The results show that informal means of communication between representatives of the executive branch and citizens are of great interest as a source of sociological information investigated using algorithms and methods for analyzing Big Data. Such analysis helps in increasing security by reducing uncertainty and gaining new knowledge about society. On the other hand, the researchers have identified possible social risks associated with collecting, storing, and using Big Data. In particular, these are the risks of external interference with the application. In practice, these risks should be prevented and minimized by improving and testing applications by the developing company. Sociology, in turn, must consider this fact and avoid introducing undue errors in the research results.","PeriodicalId":286622,"journal":{"name":"Siberian Socium","volume":"17 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-10-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133124489","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This is especially true in the sphere of economic and organizational relations. Confidence is a factor contributing to the growth of wealth and competitiveness, saving transaction costs. The role of trust in the relations between the employer and the employee is important as a necessary condition for organizational innovation. Deepening further into the problem of building trust between the employee and the employer, the authors dwell into the differences of trust as a mental state and as a trusting action, which, according to Bart Nooteboom, is one of the sources of confusion in the corresponding studies. Based on the results of several waves of sociological research (2004-2017), this article shows how Russia undergoes a transformation of trust as a state of mind in the employee—employer relationship and how this affects their actions. Using the methods of correlation and variance analysis, the authors show the relationship between the interrelation between the experience of labor rights violation, protection from job loss, satisfaction with guarantied stability and permanent employment provided by the employer, and the level of trust in them. Studying the influence, which the level of trust as a mental state has on the employees’ behavior, has showed that the high level of trust in the employer serves as an incentive to continued labor relations, though does not guarantee it. Among the 18% of the workers interviewed, who demonstrated a high level of trust in their employer, noted at the same time their desire to change jobs. Likewise, distrust of the employer does not always lead to resignation. Among the employees who do not trust their employer, 38% expressed their readiness to continue their employment relations. The authors draw attention to some characteristics of workers who set the choice of this or that strategy of action with the same level of trust. Proceeding from this, the effect brought by trust will depend not only and not so much on the mental level of trust, but on how this trust transforms into actions and, most importantly, in what actions.","PeriodicalId":286622,"journal":{"name":"Siberian Socium","volume":"122 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-10-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115074909","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The “performativity” of education is understood as the production of knowledge and educational activity and it becomes meaningful only in the situation of their demand and efficiency (J.-F. Liotard). The сurrent trends in the formation of the curricula of higher educational institutions by academic disciplines of a “performative” nature have been expressed in reducing the hours of general humanities, among which the sociology teaching has been minimized or completely eliminated. The material for the empirical stage of the research was the organizational and methodological documentation accompanying the educational process in a number of Russian universities. The authors performed a content analysis of the curriculum of higher education. The following methods of collecting information were used: analytical-synthetic, induction and deduction, content and comparative analyzes. The performativity of sociological knowledge and the study of sociology at the individual level is expressed in several aspects: 1) in the formation of the self-consciousness of the individual and the development of a professional integrated into social relations; 2) in the development of graduates’ ability to analyze and forecast social transformations; 3) in maintaining the value basis and civil law culture in society. The practical significance of the findings is expressed in strengthening the position of sociology as a science and academic discipline in the simulation of educational programs for professional training of university students.","PeriodicalId":286622,"journal":{"name":"Siberian Socium","volume":"242 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-10-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134551111","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The authors interpret ethno-cultural neo-traditionalism and identity problems as the global manifestation of ambiguous consequences of the contemporary socio-cultural transformations. They argue for treating it as a resource for the formation of ethnic and national identity, analyzing the problems and contradictions arising in this case. The potential possibilities of the proposed conceptual scheme are illustrated by two illustrative cases: Breton (Celtic people in France) and Selkup (Siberian people in Russia). In order to achieve this goal, besides the case study, the authors have used sociocultural approach in its authorial interpretation, which allows considering ethnocultural neo-traditionalism, first, as an inter-cultural phenomenon — the effect of interaction between different ethnocultures — and second, as an integrative policy that consolidates the potential of the ethnos in synchrony and diachrony. The analysis of Breton neo-traditionalism from the abovementioned positions allowed to reveal such features as participation in the Breton cultural movement of authentic bearers of tradition, its transmission to new generations through direct immersion in a living tradition, participation in the movement of families and its mass character, absence of borders between spectators and performers, accumulation of various modifications and local variations of cultures, enrichment of tradition with modern elements and experimentation, urban localization of holidays, formation of cultural industry, and organization of international cultural festivals, inclusive of various social and cultural practices. Such experience, presented in the Selkup cultural movement, forms and confirms a positive ethnic identity with the assistance of the state. Cultural expansion and international recognition of ethnocultural non-traditionalism practices remove the problem of local ethno-political ambitions and strengthen national identity as a prerequisite for the development of ethnic identity. Thus, the analysis shows the possibilities of cooperation, synergy of national and ethnic identities based on the implementation of the strategy of ethno-cultural non-traditionalism.","PeriodicalId":286622,"journal":{"name":"Siberian Socium","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-10-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127386063","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The Saratov Region is a typical example of a labor-contributing region. The outflow of workers (including highly skilled professionals) and the ageing population only exacerbate the economic problems of the region and deepen the territorial inequality of the Russian Federation. Raising human capital is the best solution to the problem of labor emigration. However, on the one hand, the difficulties in the development of human capital lie in the high demands of workers for wages and in their reluctance to engage in heavy physical labor. Employers, on the other hand, often seek to hire workers who do not require additional training. This empirical study provides recommendations to the regional authorities and the strategy for the development of human capital. The novelty of the approach lies in considering the local entrepreneurs as the main subjects of raising human capital. Interviews with businessmen in six districts of Saratov region showed the lack of opportunities for successful entrepreneurs to expand the business, increase staff, and invest resources and efforts in the development of human capital of local communities. Reflection of expert opinions and assessments of executive authorities and employers allows formulating practical recommendations and identifying factors for the development of human capital, focusing on the business potential of the region and social integration of the population. The positive factors for the development of human capital should be the following: creating an enabling environment for local business development; developing human capital of rural and regional businessmen; and increasing the cohesion of the municipal community.","PeriodicalId":286622,"journal":{"name":"Siberian Socium","volume":"54 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-07-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114330326","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Orientation of the Russian state on the support of migrants either highly motivated to integrate or at least “obedient” and ready to follow legal and socio-cultural norms raises a number of questions. How prepared is the Russian society to digest migration flows and accept new members? How do migrants perceive the Russian reality? What kinds of relationships do they seek to establish with local population? To what extent do they rely on the state and public systems? This article presents the results of formalized interviews with migrants in seven Russian border regions: the Altai Territory (n=319), Orenburg Region (n=100), Murmansk Region (n=100), Pskov Region (n=100), Republic of Altai (n=20), Republic of Dagestan (n=51), and Rostov Region (n=94). Guided by the integrative theoretical-methodological approach (including contemporary concepts of migration and trust) and using path analysis, the authors suggest a complex model, where the migrants’ trust is linked with life stance and social-psychological determinants. Among the latter, a crucial role belongs to the perceived discrimination and attitudes of the local population, moderated by perception of security. The authors show that the trust is an important factor, determining the level of satisfaction with different aspects of the life in Russia.","PeriodicalId":286622,"journal":{"name":"Siberian Socium","volume":"33 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-07-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124937911","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The purpose of this research involves analyzing the usefulness of this resource as one of the ways to integrate and modernize the regional education systems. The latter may lead in the following directions: 1) to motivate students to keep their professional information up to date and to present it effectively; 2) to assess whether the created competences comply with the requirements of contemporary labor market and social expectations. The authors studied the data from LevelPride’s e-portfolios (more than 10,000 user profiles), using descriptive, cluster, and factor analysis. The results show five basic clusters structured according to the students’ social activities and achievements. Based on their preferences in terms of their self-representation, the authors distinguished three types of students. Each of these groups had one accent of self-presentation: “utilitarian”, “professional” or “communicative” — which differed in preferred life success strategies. The problem occurs when students’ self-presentation prevents them from achieving success rather than helps. The authors hope this work will start fruitful discussions in academic and teaching spheres as well as commercial. They also suggest that the provided system of the student’s self-presentation should be introduced at universities on a trial basis.","PeriodicalId":286622,"journal":{"name":"Siberian Socium","volume":"24 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-07-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125989115","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
